If only it were that simple..but no, it does it when my computer has been off and is cold, and part of the on going tech support process I've been doing with this issue is a program that check your cards, cpu, motherboards etc. temp..and all are well within normal limits.
-
I tried all over those things..none have worked.
-
Funny, his problem sounds exactly like mine..other graphic intensive games: Fallout NV, DCUO, Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare, all run fine, yet CoH crashes my comp..I've been dealing with tech support the last 4 days, downloading all kinds of testing programs and sending them the results..they aren't able to find the issue either.
-
there is only one entry for a CoH error, which is odd..since I've attempted to play and crashed several times today and yesterday, it reads:
The program CityOfHeroes.exe version 1.0.01 stopped interacting with Window and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Problem Reports and Solutions control panel. Process ID: 644 start time:01cd3717873b9eaa Termination time: 44 -
Ok, so I set up the event view to put the logs on my desk top..what am I looking for? I took a look at it..any none of it gives a clue as to 'failures' 'crashes' lockups'. If anything the various things I've done have made the crashing more frequent..before I could SOMETIMES run around a zone for a couple min..now I crash as soon as my char. spawns. Wish I could just do a team viewer thing and have someone take a look at whats going on.
That said; thank you all very much for trying to help me up to this point. I appreciate it! -
Quote:yep, I disabled SLI..at least I'm pretty sure it's disabled..that's how I have it in the nvidia control panel. Where do I get 'event viewer'? I wish tech support did the 'team viewer' thing and could go into my rig and find out whats going on.Can't get rid of all IE stuff, unless you go to a different OS, Microsoft likes it that way I guess.
Did you try disabling the SLI function in nvidia control panel? That has helped some people with issues on this card. Not the best solution, but maybe you can isolate the problem. Also check the "event viewer" for errors, and see if you have any error codes that might help track it down. -

ok..read a thread about adding -slifbos 2 to the properties portion of CoH..one thing I noticed and not sure if it matters is the command line looks different from the one in the posts: mine is C:\Program Files\NCsoft\City of Heroes, where as the ones in the posts are: C:\Program Files(X86)\City of Heroes. don't know if that matters..I'm just throwing crap at the wall at this point to see if it sticks, as nothing else has worked. I even turned the graphics setting down to 'recommended'..I'm starting to feel like my return to CoX is gonna be short lived. I haven't played for more than 10min since re-upping
another piece of the puzzle: tried running in 'safe mode' same type of crash as every other time..so I guess it's not the graphics setting.. -
Quote:Ok, I've done all of that with the exception of going with older drivers..which is odd advice since the 1st thing anyone says is ' update your drivers'.. I also ran the widows memory diag. and everything is fine there..no bad memory.Turn Ambient Occlusion to OFF. Completely OFF. No Advanced Occlusion, nothing.
AO puts a big load on a system and I've seen reports of some really strange behavior that was resolved by turning it OFF.
I'd also suggest turning World Detail Level to High, Water Quality to High and Bloom to OFF.
And as Terra Shock suggests, try an older driver. Of course, be sure to use proper clean video driver installation steps of Uninstall, reboot to Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper, reboot to normal mode and install older drivers.
The comp still crashes..I had my speakers turned up this time..and to be more descriptive of what happens: I get a sound repeating, sound like a 'bapbapbapbapbap' my screen goes black, and my monitor goes to 'power save mode' like it does when I leave it on after turning comp off..then I hit power button to do a hard reboot. Before I go with old drivers could it have anything to do with me having 2 vid cards and running it in SLI?
How do you go to safe mode again? I used to know..but as this is the 1st time I've really had an issue with a game, (as I said battlefield 3 runs great), I haven't had to go to it.
(p.s.) after hearing the noise with the crash I updated my sound driver..and it still does the same random comp crash/lockup -
I I tried disabling and playing testing each one..and no joy..whole computer still randomly crashes. I can't think of why..I run BF3..which is graphic/memory intensive w/o issue. Before my 'break' I ran CoX without problems..only thing that has changed with the game is now there is a launcher that you have to go, and a few minor graphics upgrades.
Sometimes I crash right after my char. appears in the server..sometimes when I zone, and so far ALWAYS within 5min of entering a mission. So far the only place that is safe is in the costume shop, or char. creator. -

Quote:What 'interesting services/start ups' would you recommend you recommend disabling?Guide at the top will tell you how to submit a CoH Helper log, which will be of benefit here.
I can say that you have some interesting services/start ups that you can disable with msconfig. You can uncheck them in the start up and service tabs.
I'm going to go with the video drivers, though, are outdated and you probably need to upgrade them. That's where the CoH Helper log will be handy. As of now, that's just a guess.

It's odd that you say my vid drivers are out of date..I DL'd and updated them shortly after DL'ding CoX..One of my start ups is Nvidia control panel and it's telling me I'm up to date..As far CoH Helper, I've tried following links to it but always get 404 error. -
Hello all..I'm back after a 3-4yr break..before I left everything worked fine..I DL'd/installed game yesterday to start playing. Now however I randomly crash..sometimes it's when I zone, sometimes it is right after my game loads and I see my char. for a sec. then my computer crashes and does an auto reboot. I downloaded 'hijack this'..not sure if this is what you guys need to help, (I have no exp. with this stuff):

Thank you for any and all help! -
Oh..is that what those things are? Can't say I ever gave them much attention..learn somthing new everyday; unfortunately not all of it is useful in anyway that matters.

*tackles Sooner*
lol Rasta, I was wondering who that was as 'overlord'. Thx for keepin the lights on! -
Hey everyone, Badgers, RSFers, and JS's long time no see! Just droppin in to say howdy! Hope all is well!

Martial Blitz-the break from Arachnos and why LR is stomping his guts out and feeding em to Mako.
Which takes me to..Mako before the mutation.
As stated: Ghost Widow before she was all pasty..was she always emo?
Everything about the Rularuu, and Shadow Shard.
Blue Steel...was he a hallmonitor in gradeschool? Did he have a sash instead of a sheild?
thats all that comes to mind atm. -
has anyone made any? I've seen that people have made some pretty cool Avatars for the forums, but any desktop Icons? after 4yrs of lookin at statesman..a change would be cool. (already went into properties and change icon, but was less than inpressed with the CoV, and cryptic choices).
-
good news is all this stuff sounds great..bad news..so many new char. options means some beloved characters, I've had for a while will have to get the axe
. Slots full on 2 servers..not gonna start on a third server, not saying I have altitis but 45 mo. with the game..stuffs gonna fill up. More slots would rock..but I think I remember a dev post from a while back saying it wasn't really feasible for some reason..

To me.. it seems like a huge rip off.
$10 for some costumes that I doubt I'll ever use and four lowly emotes? No powers? No badge? $10 for something that I expect to see in most updates?
HUGE rip-off.
[/ QUOTE ]
You seem to have your terminology comfused. Where you said "huge rip-off", you should have said "package I'm not interested in". Just because you don't find it useful doesn't mean it's a rip-off. Those of us who like it will buy it. If you don't, then don't buy it. No rip-off there.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd still call it a huge rip-off. I have absoloutely 0% interest in every in the pack except the tuxedo, which I really want. For me, it's $10 for a single costume piece, a.k.a. huge rip-off.
I sincerely hope NCSoft doesn't make this costume pack thing a new habit.
[/ QUOTE ]probably is completely dependant on how sales of this pack are. If they get a lot of orders, whoever came up with the idea of charging cash for this lil' gem will put a feather in their cap and it will be proven method of making green....saavy? Obviously the way to try to short circuit this from becoming the norm is to NOT buy it, thereby making it not really a viable option for generating said greenbacks. That being said, I orderded and activated last night..and it's STILL not avail for me on test..anyone else having this problem? -
Many of the arcane decorative options avail are just way too big to use, when they are just decoration..how about some smaller stuff, found in warburg and in CoT missions: the small screaming head that is on the wall..some of the gargoyle statues, 1 of them is also an item used in the 'propel' animation. CoT has small crystals hanging from cieling in a lighting affect.

Hiya all, some of you know me, some dont'. Due to problems with a certain [censored], Badge Squad, (primarily villain badge channel), is getting changed over: Badge Covenant is the name of the new channel, still primary vill. but heroes are MORE than welcome also. Fun chat, monster/badgefarm/SFand TF teams.. A place to come for help on badges or to help others with your expertise. I hope to see you guys there!
-
can anyone tell me if the 'malaise' coloring option is still in the costume options? I looked for it and was unable to find it.

sweet, I can sell the farm..and move back to the big city!
