What CoX backstory would you want to see?
The war between the Mu and the Oranbegans.
Who any of the Vanguard signature heroes are.
Who Ms. Liberty's father is.

The destruction of Astoria

My dream scenario for this is a modern take on the zone, where the Midnighters and heroes try to reclaim the zone, while villains sneak in to cause mischief (special new Mayhem mission, Strike Force, and Trial).
On top of that an Ouroboros arc that let's us witness the darkening, and do what little we can to prevent the spread of that disaster beyond the boundaries of the zone.

Here is what I would like to see;
<ul type="square">[*]The event at Mercy Isle and that created Ghost Widow[*]The event that created the upsurge in St. Martial and destroyed the northern most part and northwestern most part of the island as well, along with the events that led up to the Hard Way.[*]The first Rikti War.[*]World War 2[*]The invasion of the 5th Column in the Rogue Isles[/list]
That's to name a few events that come to mind.

The war between the Mu and the Oranbegans.
[/ QUOTE ]
That'd be a neat background setting for a Co-Op zone, via Ouroboros or the Midnight Club.
The Mu-Oranbega War:
Someone has gone back in time to attempt to change history in a very unsettling way... the Mu-Oranbega War, historically devestated both sides of the conflict to the point that neither one nor the other had the real strength to carry on. Turning against their own allies, the demons of the Circle of Thorns decimated the Oranbegans when they would show mercy over the last few Mu, sending them out of the demons reach for a time.
Time is starting to shift; Someone has gone back to the time of this war in order to, subtly, carry out the plan that the Oranbegans had shown the presence of mind to abandon, cursing themselves to destruction as well: The genocide of every last descendant of Mu, before they could spread and recover even a portion of their strength.
Arachnos has a bit of investment with the Mu in their current state: While they don't want them to rise up and become a rival nation unto themselves (which would leave the fate of Sharkhed Isle and perhaps the Rogue Isles themselves in question over ownership), but their mystical might and talents have proven quite useful to the organization. And letting the Circle of Thorns become a greater power is also not in the best interests of Arachnos as a whole. Lord Recluse has, on this matter, given his ascent to sending agents back in time to make sure that both sides of the conflict are shattered equally, and that things play out to their foregone conclusion (though, not everyone in the organization is told this /exact/ plan...): The Circle of Thorns and Mu both losing the conflict.
The Midnight Club can't really see a way out of this that wouldn't exactly shake things up worse then they already are, either. The Oranbegans made deals with demons and came back as the servants of the Circle of Thorns. The Mu made dark alliances with Lord Recluse and Arachnos, and if they could so so while still close to the height of their power... or, worse yet, their nation could rise up and become a pillar of evil of it's own volition. While it's against their better judgement, the balance has to be maintained, and the people of Mu and Oranbega have to be sacrificed to maintain order: You have to go back and stop them both, by any means possible, so that no clear winner is on either side.
...randomly.
Hmm, some of the ones I'd like to see are:
[*]World War II - the attack from the 5th Column on Independence Port[*]Rikti War I - perhap a flashback task force to be on the vanguard (pun intended) of the Alpha Team?[*]Astoria - the darkening of Astoria[*]Ouroboros - a continuation, as well as more members and backstory[*]Rularuu Invasion - perhaps to find the spells necessary and help the Midnight Squad seal Rularuu?[*]Odysseus - an encounter with him at least[*]Hellions and Skulls - they tend to be the manipulated in any given story

That'd be a good Ouroboros arc.
Heroes fight alongside Atlas. They are the reason he was able to hold out as long as he did.
Villains help kill him. His death helped rally the heroes and the country, making him into an icon for generations. In order for the Allies to win the war... Atlas must die.
Dawnslayer on Virtue.
The explosion that caused the destruction of Siren's Call.
The Breaking Away of the Rogue Arachnos from Lord Recluse.
It's funny - when I was holding casting calls a while back for the Issue 11 teaser and trailer, one of the 'interview' questions I asked the heroes was, "You have the chance to change history - which would you do?" and gave them four options.
Almost EVERY single one, without fail, chose the option "Reclaim a hazard zone", and virtually all of them specified they would save Dark Astoria.
Others I'd add to the list - the takeover of 'Eden' by the Devouring Earth, and the Founding of Ouroboros.
BTW, Dawnslayer, the Atlas vs the Fifth Column would make a SERIOUSLY awesome Hero vs Villain story arc.
I'm surprised that there aren't more suggestions for Villain-side, though... although Silverspar's suggestion of showing the 'birth' of Ghost Widow would also rock.

Dark Astoria has a lot of interest because of the sketchy details of its backstory. As best as I can determine, Astoria was overwhelmed and went "dark," was restored by the Freedom Phalanx and other heroes in the latter 1950s, remained a nice place due to the presence of Paragon City's hero populace but once the intial Rikti invasion occurred in 2002 and killed most of the heroes, the forces of darkness returned and Astoria went "dark" again. I pieced this together from the various historic plaques, the memorial to the heroes killed in the Rikti invasion that was built in Astoria and the Crey and Vanguard signage that you see there.
I have a few heroes who hail from Baumton, and their stories emerge from the fact that the Rikti apparently decided to utterly devastate that area (in part, it seems, due to the presence of the Freedom Phalanx's HQ there.) But I have one other hero who was a resident of Astoria who has determined that he will return to Astoria and dispel the Darkness. Either of those hazard zones would be an interesting project to reclaim.
EDIT: I did not think to look for it, but did anyone see any Jeter Clutch signage in Dark Astoria during its in-game ad run? If that happened, wow, that would seriously mess with the storyline, barring some insane ad exec ("Zombies LOVE those shoes! Get in there and put up some bill boards! We will get TONS of orders from the BP! Heck, the orders from the Storm Shamans alone will pay us back double!" )
"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

Also, the creation of Dark Astoria would be exceedingly interesting to me.

That is the one I want to see the most. Especially what the menders were like before they were a part of it, most of all Mender Silos. Plus it would also be fun to see what kind of powers any given Ouroboros Acolyte would have.

I know it wouldn't work right storywise, as the FP were able to finish the job themselves, but....
I really want to Ouro back to Brass Monday.
To right the countless wrongs of our day, we shine the light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise. What a wonderful world such would be....
I'm sorry what was that, I couldn't hear you over my TRAGIC PAST!!

The events that created Crey's Folly.
The already suggested Brass Monday and death of Atlas.
I really hope the devs take note of this thread... it'd be so nice to see an issue that REALLY delves into the earlier storylines of the game.

Hey Rodoan, is your avatar similar to The Pilgrim on purpose?
Also, another one to put on the list: a lowbie-arc probably, but the war on Superadine. (Flashback called the Back Alley Brawler Task Force?)

Does it matter? This will all be a Nemesis plot anyway.
You pay to play. Having fun is ok. Kill Skuls or kill Crey. Hunt at night or in the day. Black or white or shades of grey. Play it your way. We have no say.

Many great suggestions- I'd love to be able to go back to Brass Monday even just as a 'tourist' (and stomp me some band geeks... sheesh, Nemesis troops look dorky), but, well, for me?

Nothing, they're non-cannon and officially don't exist. i.e. It never happened.

... except for in-game (i.e. canonical) mention of Apex here. And if they weren't around, uhm, how'd War Witch get dead? Nope, the Blue King stuff is at least quasi-canon.

The whole of the game has this humongous tapestry of story threads and events and whatnot, but a large majority of them have only been hinted at. I'm curious to know what some folks would like to see actually fleshed out, explained, developed, whatever...
For myself, that list includes:
The destruction of Astoria
The Kheldian War
The history between the Midnight Squad and Ouroboros
The discovery of Praetorian Earth
The 'creation' of Crey's Folly
Recluse's rise to power within Arachnos (beyond what's in "Web of Arachnos")
What happened to the Dark Watcher
Who Lady Grey is
You get the idea. What are some of the story elements that the rest of you would want to see in more detail?
