    CoX Emu anyone?

Uh... Not cool, dude. Not cool...
Oh, is it actually offensive? I'll go back and change it then. My bad.

That's at least what happens to the base code when they try to make changes to it. A catastrophic collapse.

Also, the coding for City of Heroes is like Jenga...but on fire.
  4. SOs you can get in the Rikti War Zone. The quartermasters have every origin for sale. Otherwise, you'll have to find the store contact for your origin and do a mission for them.
  5. Ah, cool, so I'm not crazy. Thanks, guys.
  6. Am I mistaken, or did some background extra(s) in a couple episodes wear a shirt with the old hero icon from the login screen? (The one that looks like Statesman's torso.)
  7. Joke's on you, Aeon. I like this song.
  8. I was browsing the forums and saying in my head that I should log in to my dominator and play this extended weekend.

    nope.avi
  9. Rularuu the Ravager?

Looks like the Dream Doctor's plan failed. Silos was right. Oops.

    Hoorb!

    Confirmation; excrement vacuum effects.
  11. I was thinking about this, too, as the other thread popped up asking where our characters will be in the end.

Tidbit Jr. started off in Outbreak, which makes it that much more unreachable since even Galaxy gets a comlpete zone echo.
  12. I like to think the post I made a while back at least influenced the recategorization of badges that happened back in the day.

I also made the avatar Jranger used in MSPaint.

    Nobody cares. I know.
  13. I think another that really stuck out is how aesthetics and performance were not tied together. You could wear whatever you want and not worry about being less powerful for it.

No, I'm not arguing for realism, else I wouldn't have brought up Superman. I'm arguing for believability. Those are not the same things. I can believe that a man can run faster than a speeding bullet and jump tall buildings in a single leap. I know that's impossible, but within the realm of super heroes, I can believe it. I can believe that a man whose key power is invulnerability can be shot with an 88 anti-tank howitzer and not suffer serious damage. I know it's not possible, but within the world of super heroes, I can believe it.

I can't believe that a man is shot in the chest with a shotgun and walks it off unless the story has a specific explanation for why this happens, and the more characters you come up with that have that specific explanation, the weaker it becomes. It's the same reason why hospital reclimators in City of Heroes make dramatic storytelling impossible and why the story ignores them so often. Because if the story didn't ignore them, then Sister Psyche would never have died from an arrow to the chest. She would have been teleported to the hospital and insta-healed.
So your problem is with suspension of disbelief, which does involve the line between what you'll accept as real enough and not. You're just not trusting that a guy can be so improbably lucky that every piece of the shell misses vital organs for every shot. Or that bladed weaponry can move clean through a body and only hurt as much as a fist.

I know, I know. That's why I did make sure to say it was my opinion, not a statement of fact. [...] So, er, I guess my point in all this is that it's okay to like some anime and not others, because if you look you'll be able to find others who share your tastes, even if they're not the most popular...?
Different strokes for different folks. I like a lot of Gainax's stuff, but many of my peers don't. I also watch a lot of slice-of-life and comedy stuff whereas friends seem to prefer action over anything else. We do still have a lot of common ground on ones we've watched and liked.

The developers could (and have--someone else already mentioned Rularuu, the devourer of dimensions) create a large-scale threat capable of doing so, but players will never be able to individually match that level of power*. And like all good Western comics, those characters will be used sparingly.
Bet you someone will find a way to do it, mechanically. :P

    Quote:
I didn't like Guren Lagann, but that's because the story was just freaking stupid and the characters were unlikable jerk bags (especially after killing off Kamina). Then again, I think everything Gainax makes is garbage.
I don't like what you say, good sir, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

The series focus on the protagonist fighting a specific set of enemies, and nothing else.
    Quote:
In Anime they go off, train/find a weakness/get the magic sword upgrade, and come back to fight them solo.
It seems like action anime plots like to focus on the "zero to hero" aspects of the story more than the "living with superpowers" view.

    Quote:
The protagonists are considered above normal people, and thus normal people are considered inconsequential.
I don't entirely agree with this statement, but it does feel like anime series of any genre like to stay within the cast and keep screen time to a bare minimum for people who aren't overtly important to the plot or to the other characters.

I like how it's taken eight pages for someone, a redname no less, to point out that 'anime style' is such a broad brush you might as well be saying 'cartoon style'.
People have actually been saying that throughout the thread...

How's that different than if you were making a super hero game, though? Super Heroes have a massive range of abilities, from 'stupid teenager that largely doesn't feel anything' (Kick ***) to... well, god-like beings.
Well, yes. I don't disagree with you. I meant to speak about giving it for any reason, regardless of source, but I can see why that wasn't implied. My bad.

(So I guess non-VIPs can't delete posts; even accidental double-posts...)

To make something of this post, here's a clip of a defender soloing Jurassik with only the sorcery pool.

Ah. Thanks. My gratitude to Buttercup for providing this information, too.
  23. Does noxious gas do anything negative to the henchman? I set-it-and-forget-it on my bruiser all the time and watch as he runs into combat.

And what in the world is Manga?
Japanese comic books done in much the same art style as anime.

    Quote:
From Dictionary.com: Anime - a Japanese style of motion-picture animation, characterized by highly stylized, colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sexuality.
That definition starts off strong and then goes to a pretty narrow head. To say that futuristic settings, violence, and sexuality are so intrinsic to anime that they are its defining points...? Anime and manga can be just as many genres as any other media.

    Quote:
Maybe a good question is why do you want Anime to be in CoH?
I don't think anyone's asking for anime tropes like disproportionately large eyes or heads, over-the-top maneuvers, hyperbolic attacks, or the stereotypical "style" that anime has. What they are asking for is stuff that, while prevalent in anime, is not entirely exclusive to it, such as oversized weaponry, mecha armor, and other nifty costume ideas that can be fitted to COH's style and game engine.
