I supposed I'd be a mask wearer, but for two reasons:
1. how vulnerable I am. If I'm a natural squishy archer, that doesn't help when a bomb is set off in your apartment.
2. how vulnerable are those around me. I'm not even considering the close-standing Lois Lanes. I'm thinking my arch-enemies would pull up my yearbooks and target every member of my high school, then hack my social network page, and then they'd get my little dog, too.
What I'd rather do is get the tech wizards to whip up a holographic mask which alters the appearance of my face. A mask without appearing to be one. Bonus points if it also alters my voice and can adjust the appearance, allowing me to mimic others.
I suppose I could also do what the Lone Ranger did: bury his real self, and almost always live behind the mask. That way, when he did take off the mask, no one knew him (nor could threaten his loved ones) and his real face became the disguise. -

By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged!
Hmm, over 60 characters

Curious...as I understand the episode, these Cybermen have been bottled up in the earth for centuries (according to the Doctor). How then does the original surviving Cyberman know this eleventh face as The Doctor? Granted, at least two from the store above knew him by name, but not by his real nature. In "The Next Doctor", the Cybermen of that episode knew all the previous faces, but not #10. They had to be shown.

Quote:I can see the homage. The mask does nothing much to hide the person, which I felt was better in Batman Returns, but hey, its a comic.I like Catwoman's costume, it's very evocative of the 60s Newmar/Kitt/Meriwether costume without being too silly.
I get the impression they didn't fully resolve the neck flexibility issues in this latest Batman costume. Bale seems to resort to head tilts instead of neck turns. -
I've been playing solo more with my psy/time corruptor and have therefore had a clear enough playing field to observe a couple of things with Distortion Field that have raise questions:
1. apparently only half the distortion field works. Is this as intended? I've repeatedly observed characters running through the field and not being slowed or held until they reach the halfway mark. At first I assumed that the graphic was off centered from the actually field, but these same characters speed up as soon as they reach the near edge of the graphic. Just to make certain I was not observing an effect by those already in the distortion field, I began dropping it between the opponents and my character before taking a sniper shot, so they clearly had to run through the full field. I observed the same results.
2. Are some opponents completely immune to distortion field? I was surprised when a pair of Arachnobots skitted over the field as if it were not there. I had to slow them with time crawl and time stop to reassert control over the situation. Later encounters with Arachnobots had the same effect.
Likewise, flying opponents seem immune, this despite the fact that the field shows as a half sphere. I had a Freak juicer on the ground that I dropped the distortion field on top of. He promptly went airborne and flew over it to me.
I'm getting a might frustrated. I currently have a single slot used for slow and one for hold. Both have the best enhancement possible for my level. I hope to max DF out, but if it continues to under-perform, I may rethink that. I see tremendous potential from distortion field, I just feel its either not performing properly or I don't understand it properly. -
I still guess that there is a slight-of-hand involved. The Doctor did prepare gas/petrol to cremate the body. To the companions, it would appear, as stated, that they are protecting his genetic material from exploitation. Really though, I think he's burning the evidence that it is not him. That gives him a chance to hunt for a change, and might free River from her exploiters.
As to Closing Time, it was okay. Unlike others I think Craig's whiny goofiness was too heavy-handed, but otherwise it was ok. Nice to have the cybermats back, at least until the one was crushed. -
are you thinking of the last one, the 5th/10th mashup short? That one ended with the start of the start of the Starship Titanic story.
The Three Doctors originated Omega, a character that came back later in the series, and some assume will soon be returning to the show..
The 25th anniversary show, The Five Doctors, fleshed out the back story of Rassilon a bit.
I never saw the others, but these sound canonical to me. -
Quote:I'm assuming that the ship punched through the earth off-center? 'cause as I understand it there's only three places in the USA that touch earth and not water straight through on the other side. I think I heard these are in the Indian Ocean, not Siberia.Yup. Someone failed physics forever on this one.
Anything moving fast enough to burrow through the planet on a more or less straight line and tough enough to actually survive the process would wind hitting with so much kinetic force that you'd have two major ecological disaster areas consisting of hundreds of square miles at both the entry and exit points. The pressure wave alone would destroy anything in the entry zone out to several miles. -
I could see a tram in Faultline. I don't mind using the Skyway connection, nor the Pocket D manhole, but I have an older computer, as I'm sure many others do, and I prefer to minimize the number of zoning screens due to the length of load. At best it is a two zone shift right now. Even dropping one screen load would be nice.
That said, a tram doesn't guarantee that the zone will be more frequented. Croatoa has a nice tram layout, and is often overlooked except by badge hunters. I guess what is really needed is some concept that will consistently keep the out-of-the-way zones in mind and reasonably easy to get to. -
personally, I'm hoping the 8th Doctor gets brought in on the 50th action. He could really uses some canon stories that are not argued over for every detail.

Quote:Highlighted the word that mattered. Syfy doesn't have a good track record of releasing things on time. I've no intention of waiting 4 months only to find they've decided to bump it back again. Did that frustration with Sanctuary, Warehouse 13 and Eureka over the last two years. I did try to see the stuff that folks posted on backwards on obscure Mongolian YouTube knockoffs, but that eventually dried up. The crazy thing is for a day-late online posting of the episodes I'd gladly sit through all the TV commercials Syfy puts on the TV, and I suspect a lot of others would too, but that apparently doesn't make sense to Syfy, so we get punished for not owning cable. Sorry. *gets off soap box*Wait, you're paying for these when you will be able to watch them for free on Hulu or Syfy.com eventually for free?
Quote:Warehouse 13
Glasses belonged to the inventor of the thermostat, don't remember the name.
The dog came from the episode where the got the doorknob that burns people. Claudia and Jynx got it and then it was stolen. The only witness was the dog, Fezes followed and now Artie is bonded with it (as dogs own humans).
Claudia needed someone to bond with, no friends other than coworkers, no family nearby, Artie may be a father figure but she was looking to bond with someone closer to her age and that left Jynx as Pete and Myka are probably a have a generation older than her. Plus he's her partner. Does anybody else not trust indy rock guy?
As for the artifact, read up on the Donner Party.
Thanks to all who reminded me of the dog's origins. I now remember the two fezzes.
Nope don't trust indy guy. She should've stuck with witness protection guy, or Fargo, but that ship has sailed. Literally.
Thanks for the info about the glasses.
Quote:I'm expecting the Wesley to have put something in Fargo's goo (my goo! my precious goo!) that'll turn him purple or make him go bald.
It's obviously Beverly or whatever her name is that got the ship. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if she managed to tag Sen. Wray with that same nanobot. Given the previews of the final season, it appears as if lots of people have been tagged. I'm guessing it's nothing altruistic that they took the ship for, most likely it's "We want the tech because we think we're entitled to it", IMO.
Still wondering if it is in fact, Waller trying to get Jynx as a double-agent. It would make sense to do so, but he really does seem pissed off and anti-Warehouse now.
I'm certain Wray has some connection to Beverley's group. Your theory on tagging makes sense.
Yeah, Jynx is definitely a plant by Waller. Think of this: the guy who paid Jynx's tab outright lied to him about the operation and Jynx said nothing. You KNOW he would have seen the lie, and that he's always vocal about folks lying to him. Instead he says nothing and invites the guy to sit down. -
SPOILERS IN THREAD
Just finished with the Amazon downloads for Warehouse 13 "Insatiable" and Eureka "One Giant Leap", the latter being the end of season 4.
Warehouse 13 first.
I'm beginning to think no agent should enter the Warehouse not even to change a lightbulb, without a second agent monitoring at a safe distance. And that doesn't mean just being aware someone is in the Warehouse, but actually observing, at least by security cam.
I'm trying to remember which episode spawned the dog whom we know know is called "Trailer". I'm a big dog-lover, but I'm wondering why the dog is there. It seems like the writers are trying to find things to do with the pet, and its coming across as inorganic to the show.
Scagliotti has done very well portraying Claudia's dismay at Jinks' apparent self-destruction. I'm puzzled by the deep bond Claudia has all of a sudden. I know she got along great with Jinks, but they were teamed only a short time.
Anyone catch to whom the "magic glasses" previously belonged?
I admit to being confused as to what connection extreme cold and ravenous hunger had to each other. The explanation of the artifact made for an interesting solution. How many artifacts have we seen that had 2 effects? I remember the Phoenix, which preserved life in fire at the cost of the death of another. That's the only one that comes to mind.
Eureka
I really like Eureka, but the writing concerning the Astraeus mission seems to be getting worse. I realize this is a geek comedy, but instructing the crew in the basic functions of their stasis pods less than 8 hours before launch? Seriously? The whole crew seemed more like tourists than professionals. The leaders' "inspiring" speeches were pretty flat, too. It felt like "well I gotta say something, so lets get it over with".
Jo's decision didn't seem like a natural outgrowth of the last few episodes. There were bits there, sure, but not a smooth transition for the viewer to follow.
I could comment on other poor writing (such as a pacifistic weapon designer who initially refuses to use his weapon to save lives without pointing at a single person on the grounds that weapons are bad) but I won't.
I will say though, that although the ending was somewhat predictable, the jump to an unknown destination with an unplanned-for visitor is interesting. Hmm, now I wonder who could be behind this sophisticated hack? To get this deep into the Global Dynamics computer, they'd practically have to take control of the head of GD.
Also, Cafe Diem...noooo!
Lastly, anyone see that plaque by the lake? What I could make out of the lettering reads "Dedicated in recognition of faithful public service by R. Petrovicz, Capt. US Army (Ret.), 1965-2011. Volunteer Firefighter...U.S. Weather Observer...Township Treasurer...Mayor of Eureka...Teacher.." I've since learned it refers to one of the producers of the show who apparently has died. -
that's an interesting thought, Arcanaville. Looking again at the Batwing, it does look like there is some sort of stubby rotor jutting out from under a center disk, and framed below by something of a ring. Not enough for full lift, but maybe assisting.

I don't think Rory doesn't like the Doctor (okay, the car helps). I'm of the impression he's just deeply disturbed that the Doctor has not really the considered the full ramifications of his actions. In a sense, with the ending on this episode, it appears the Doctor has thought it through more, at least regarding Rory and Amy. Of course, being the reincarnation of the 7th Doctor, its probably just another chess move on his part towards whatever he's considering regarding Utah.
-
Quote:except, at least in my case, I didn't make the Doctor. I made an homage. I borrow concept bits as much from Sister Pysche and Kheldians as from the Doctor Who series. The end result is in the flavor of Doctor Who, but is its own unique critter.Time Manip for the Doctor makes no sense. He doesn't manipulate time apart from using his TARDIS to travel through it.
The Doctor is a MA/Regen Scrapper. The Third Doctor was an expert in at least two different forms of Venusian Martial arts, and of course, he patently regenerates.
Giving him Time Manip powwrs just because, ooh, the set's got 'time' in it is like us having a Shapechange Into Bat power and making Batman tribute toons.
Eco
Oh, and though it is by no means his normal, the 11th Doctor has used a wrist time device to manipulate a string of events in recent time.
I admittedly experimented with sonic during Beta, but didn't care for it. -
Quote:Mummy and Daddy-in-law?with that said, there is a special relationship he does have with Amy and Rory
I've wondered something about Rory's lack of faith. He's been altered so many times, could it be that this Rory is not real? A creation of Amy's memories while standing at the rift in the universe? If he's a cleverly re-made Rory, the construct may lacking something that generates faith. -
playing through it solo now. I must say the apparitions might just be the creepiest opponents in the game. Also, love the sunken floors and the mildew on the walls (never thought I'd say that!) The pathing is clever, though the creation of hoverboards pretty much negates its use.

Arrr...a score an' five years ago 'twer that me speech teacher gave me the A instead of the black spot for me funny recit, reci...speakin' of Dorothy Parker's poem. The lasses in the crowd were unnerved, they were. Scared 'em with me sabre rattlin' I did. 'Cause it be Pirate Day, here be the the little wundarrrr:
Song of Perfect Propriety
Oh, I should like to ride the seas,
A roaring buccaneer;
A cutlass banging at my knees,
A dirk behind my ear.
And when my captives' chains would clank
I'd howl with glee and drink,
And then fling out the quivering plank
And watch the beggars sink.
I'd like to straddle gory decks,
And dig in laden sands,
And know the feel of throbbing necks
Between my knotted hands.
Oh, I should like to strut and curse
Among my blackguard crew....
But I am writing little verse,
As little ladies do.
Oh, I should like to dance and laugh
And pose and preen and sway,
And rip the hearts of men in half,
And toss the bits away.
I'd like to view the reeling years
Through unastonished eyes,
And dip my finger-tips in tears,
And give my smiles for sighs.
I'd stroll beyond the ancient bounds,
And tap at fastened gates,
And hear the prettiest of sound-
The clink of shattered fates.
My slaves I'd like to bind with thongs
That cut and burn and chill....
But I am writing little songs,
As little ladies will.
-- Dorothy Parker -
I'd suggested Rory as River's victim some time back, seemingly reinforced by that scene in the jail where she looks really out of sorts when Rory stops to talk to her privately. That said, Melody Pond actually did "kill" the Doctor, and was not arrested for it, even the attempt, and she's been out on her own at hospital and college for a bit: time enough for the galactic police to descend on her. That seems to reinforce the idea that the Doctor is not the victim. But with the twists and turns in this series, who can say?

I like Peter, though I've not seen him in this winning role.
I've been saying for some time that its time to jettison the failed Wild, Wild West movie and reboot the franchise with a movie as close to the TV series as possible, and that Miguelito Loveless (NOT Arless) should be played by either Peter Dinklage or Warwick Davis. -
Love the "Thyme Lord" bit.
Didn't imagine I'd have the first images posting. Bit of a surprise there.
My version is called "Doc Timeminder", and as the name implies, he's psy/time. (which I'm finding to be a nice complimentary pairing). His current outfits have a little bit of the costumes of several of the Doctor Who personas, and the first was partially influenced by "The Next Doctor" as well. (Just a bit) Unfortunately, I never found a good checkered pants option, celery stick chest emblem, nor a velvet jacket.I did include bowties, because, well, bowties are cool.
Biography: None know the true face of Doc Timeminder. At some previous point in his existence, the good doctor learned how to utilize his powers of the mind and time to indefinitely extend his life, living symbiotically with others. Extending the last seconds of a potential host's life, he offers them a chance to live again, healed of their mortal ills by his abilities. In exchange, they give companionship and their body as host. Though inhabited, the host is an active participant, sharing their skills and knowledge with mind of their benefactor. Doc Timeminder has a fatherly affection for all of his companion hosts, and spends quality time with each. He protects them, when not utilized, in frozen pockets of time.
The first three known "faces" of the doctor, as well as his combat appearance. I use the Dimensional Shift to change between them:

There's bound to be several tributes to Doctor Who and the Time Lords (sounds like a British Invasion-era band) running about with the new time powerset. And having lots of costume slots helps with the regenerations. Assuming you're not breaking the rules by having "xxxDoctor Whoxxx" or other pure rip-off running around, I'd love to see everyone's creativity of tribute characters and back stories. This includes Time Lords in general.
And yes, I have a tribute one, too. I'll post him after a few responses. -
The thing that gets me is that your patron is Manticore, and as near as I can tell he never acknowledges Proton. I just found that a bit odd. If a guy was running around declaring he was my son from an alternate timeline, I'd be there with doctors to draw a blood and DNA sample, and have the Winnebago hidden around the corner and packed for a family-bonding weekend just in case he's telling the truth.
Admittedly, Manticore is aware that something is wrong with your team, but nothing in the dialog says he's suspicious of Proton. -
Quote:There is, and he's where GG mentions he'll be. Except, up against the edge of the walk, beyond the NPC store. In beta, I was trying to think like a newbie, and I stumbled across him. My thought was "why wasn't there an alert that he was there?"I don't know. I didn't see one and one wasn't pointed out to me.
As to the new tutorial. As a VIP with a lot of former Vet awards, it does take a while to set everything up. I don't know if its possible, but I'd love a one-click process that tunes the whole UI to a pre-fab I've set and stored.
The others' explanations of the Shivans is pretty good. I'd only point out that I gather the Shivans are a group, rather than a breed. Kind of like Devouring earth having crystaline, plant, and animal-based "breeds" under one title. As the assault waves pour in, we may see Shivans that look radically different.
Sam, my first assault on the giant Shivan was as a loner, too. It was not obvious to me at the time, in the heat of battle and the confusion of figuring out the scenario for the first time, but the air support ramps up to assist for solo and small groups. Watch for the target arrows to appear on the ground.
I'd been hoping for a badge for killing 100 of the tutorial Shivan, but since they currently are only found in the tutorial (I think), I understand why there is not one.
I do wish we could dialog with Coyote (I hope he pops up in new missions later), and it might be nice to have a few refugees gawk, point, and call out the names of the signature heroes, so a new person would at least note that these are names of importance that they may see again.
