The Shatner Takei feud continues in Shatner's upcoming book.
It saddens me to think that these two men will take this feud to their respective graves. Two egomaniacs who are too stubborn to admit that they may have been wrong once or twice in their lives.

Now there are rumors that Shatner supposedly interfered with Takei getting his own Trek series as Captain Sulu of Excelsior and that allegedly Sulu was to be Captain in the third movie, but these are only rumors.
Nowadays the feud seems to have erupted with George's coming out and Shatner allegedly not being all that accepting of it. Shatner is claimed to have tried to reach out to George to chat about things and been allegedly rebuffed each time.
So who knows? They should just agree to disagree and walk away from it.

Was reading up on Trek 3 and Takei, turns out Takei didn't like the scene with the guard calling him "tiny", but after seeing the scene apologized and agreed that it should stay as it made it more heroic when Sulu decked the guard. Not sure but I think Sulu's line "Don't call me tiny" as he took off with Kirk may have been an ad lib.
Maybe they're both hamming it up for the publicity

Kirk: "You're suffering from a Vulcan mind meld, doctor"
McCoy: "That green blooded sonnuva...! It's his revenge for all the arguements he lost!"

Movie 1: same characters no major change
Movie 2: Uhura and Sulu are teaching at the academy with Kirk and all return to the Enterprise for the training mission which of course changed with the distress call from Regula-1. As Sulu said as he engaged the warp engines "So much for the little training cruise" Chekov had quite a bit more screen time and dialog in this movie as well.
Movie 3: All three had expanded roles as they all aided in hijacking the Enterprise and saving Spock
Movie 4: Again everyone had expanded roles, screen time, dialog, etc.
Movie 5: no comment
Movie 6: all of them seemed to have equal screen time, etc etc. Though the movie centered more on Kirk starting with the trial and sentencing and on the prison planet.
Of course the common element in them all is that Kirk is Captain and he is the central character, as the Captain should be.
Well to be fair, Shatner was reportedly kind of obnoxious to work with, but everyone else has gotten over it except Takei, because he and Takei are two of a kind.

So, are we ready to pronounce judgment on their character and mete out divine justice to those found wanting?

Takei indicates Shatner is being a bit closed minded regarding Takei's lifestyle and refused to attend the wedding. Shatner says he never got the invite. Clerical error on someone's part or deliberate snub? While I suspect George would have liked to have Shatner at his wedding, the wedding still happened and I suspect a fun time was had by all that attended. So what is the big deal? Yeah, it is a bit rude to ignore an invitation rather then RSVP a polite refusal, but I think this whole thing was blown out of proportion by both parties and the media, and dare I say some die hard Trek fans.
The two should sit down over some beer or tea or coffee or whatever, have some cameras to record it for the media and fans and chat about the old days and their differences and amicably settle up and also make it clear to the media and hence the fans that the feud is over. Shatner settled any problems with Doohan awhile before Doohan's health started to go bad and Shatner last I heard was quite welcome at Scotty's retirement/farewell party.
So why can't Shatner and Takei patch things up?
This doesn't surprise me. Takei went from someone who distinctly didn't like being recognised as Sulu to someone who went out of his way to appear as a Trekkie so he could lobby for a movie or tv series with 'Captain Sulu'.
Shatner is really just Shatner. He's proved himself as a broader range actor thanks to his role particularly in Boston Legal. Does he have an ego? Absolutely. Does he openly mock himself and not take himself seriously at the same time? Definitely. This whole thing comes off to me as professional jealousy, really. Shatner became the star of the show and Takei on whatever level resents that or feels he was held down.
I'm not going to comment on what Shatner thinks about Takei's personal life because I've not read or seen anything one way or another. However, everything I have seen indicates that he's fairly broad-minded and accepting.
It's a showbusiness feud, but honestly one that only they seem to care about.

I've read Shatner's autobiography and Startrek memoirs and he totally owns up to being an **** at the time. Its a shame if the feud continues, since Shatner appears to have made up with the rest of the cast.

I have to think after so many decades that these two stubborn guys don't really hate each other as much as gotten into a habit of trolling each other because they unconsciously know it gives the fans something to chatter about. Sure they may never be bestest buddies in real life (whatever that is for them) but I figure their "professional rivalry" is mostly just a reflection of the ongoing pop culture phenomenon that is Star Trek. Just like Shatner doesn't take himself too seriously anymore I don't really take this supposed "feud" too seriously either.

I think they both just love being drama queens. They probably call each other in their nighties and plan this stuff out.

The article quotes one of Shatner's comments in the book about George not being able to handle being 2nd/3rd/4th/5th bananna to him in the old Trek series and movies, as well as a few comments about George's wedding. The original Trek pretty much was centered on Kirk since after all he was the CAPTAIN, with Spock, McCoy as main support characters with Scotty slowly moving up as a supporter.
Apparently George's wedding is what reignited the feud as George states Shatner was invited and didn't show up, but Shatner claims he never got an invitation and also claims the wedding was a publicity stunt.
And the feud continues......at this late date for them both, I would think they would both just agree to disagree and part company on neutral terms, each agreeing to respect the other but to leave each other alone. That would seem to be the best solution.
