What CoX backstory would you want to see?
I really, really want to see more of Statesman's history that clearly depicts him in a true hero groove. The comic books always depicted him as this paradox of a massive jerk whom all the city citizens thought was the greatest hero ever. That depiction really frustrated me. Why is Statesman so revered despite his mostly-consistent inability to get anything done or treat anyone with respect?
I also want to see more of Synapse's backstory. In the comics he got more panels flirting with girls than he did on his (supposedly-angsty) origin. He never really got much in the way of creative depiction of his powers, most of his power use was off panel. That's a shame as superspeed powers lend themselves to the most exciting and creative uses of any superpower, (well, other than shapeshifting I guess).
Finally, I want to see more of War Witch and Apex. They're not really premium heroes but their story developed a unique spark in their characters that was endearing and deserves more life.
Oh, and I want to see the moon base in action. But obviously that's coming already.

if i remember right that was an event they had in CoH beta before the game was released... unless that was just an invasion and not the whole war. i really dont remember what i had for dinner last night let alone what i was a part of in CoH beta 4 years ago hah
[/ QUOTE ]I was in that, it wasn't the same thing. It was basically a stress test, and the end of beta event (was told as an alternate universe that that CoH world was destroyed basically).
Wow, did my little thread take off, and then BAB shows up in it! (Or did it take off BECAUSE BAB showed up in it? Who knows?)
I really am glad to see that folks besides me are actually into the backhistory of this game (and kudos to U_S_C_I for the 'history' of Dark Astoria, I will be reading that later today), and there have been some fricking awesome suggestions!
I agree, though, the villains need more love - redside is lacking in content as it is, let's not make it worse by completely outstripping them with hordes of awesome heroside stuff. Not that hordes of awesome heroside stuff is bad, by any means.
I will be amusing myself today by tallying up all the suggestions so far and posting it as one big list so the latecomers to the thread can see what's been suggested.

THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE CONTINUES!
Book I: A Tale of Nerd Flirting! ~*~ Book II: Courtship and Crime Fighting - Chap Nine live!
MA Arcs - 3430: Hell Hath No Fury / 3515: Positron Gets Some / 6600: Dyne of the Times / 351572: For All the Wrong Reasons
378944: Too Clever by Half / 459581: Kill or Cure / 551680: Clerical Errors (NEW!)
Who is Blackheart? Must be fairly important since every villain hospital is named after him/her.
Based on the Halloween Event testing that was recently completed on the test servers I would think that the "Turning of Dark Astoria" back story is doable and interesting as well. I'd like to see them add the back story arc in one issue and in the following issue revert most of Dark Astoria back into regular city zone save for Moth Cemetery. Keep that section as a smaller hazard zone accessible only through some really creepy looking cemetery gates. You could even keep the zombie hordes as a regular event in the zone kinda like the fires in Steel Canyon.

Okay, I have to admit that I've never even HEARD of Brass Monday. Could someone give some context for this, please?
I'd like to see some more material on the Korean heroes (Foreshadow, Mirror Spirit, Spark Blade, and... Rose? I can't remember the tank's name, but she's blonde and has a Rose tattoo on her arm).
Most often online as: Onmyouji (Triumph, Defender), King Kaizoku (Virtue, Mastermind), Sister Samedi (Freedom, Scrapper), G1 Shrike (Pinnacle, Defender), Kinetic Rex (Virtue, Blaster), El Santo de Aguilas (Virtue, Peacebringer), Hecate (Exalted, Controller), The Mask of Legend (Exalted, Scrapper), and Star-Ranger Green (Exalted, Corruptor)
Every time something like this comes up, I take my opportunity to beg for a villain level 15-25 zone: West Libertalia. I love the blue-side Sky Raider arcs, and would even better love to be dropped into a three-way civil war in a west African tropical nation, say, Sky Raiders and Family (in support of the CIA and western business interests) versus Arachnos (backing the current local Marxist revolutionary government, as a way of interfering with US interests in the region), with some Banished Pantheon threat being behind a comic-book version of the LRA.
And so heroes don't complain that villains get something cool that they don't get, rewrite the ending of "The Mysterious General Z" so that the final mission happens in an Instanced Outdoor Mission subset of the West Libertalia zone.
For me the backstory I would like to see:
- Brass Monday: I love Nemesis because he is a classic "Eternal" Villain. Perhaps also later with Nemesis being declared Emporer of the Americas (not Brass Monday). A big ole crush Nemesis' machinations Arc.
- The fight with Reichsman.
- World War II to a point, specifically the 5th Column, and Atlas
Many of the other ideas mentioned here are great as well.
High Beam - 50 Blaster Energy/Ice - 1228 Badges
Munitions Mistress - 50 Mercs/Traps
Many Other 50's, Too Many Alts, All On Freedom
Just Because You Can, Doesn't Mean You Should!
Hey gang, lets not forget that there's a giant friggin Laviathon underneath Sharkshead, that oddly enough has shark-like features! I would love to know more about that.
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."

Brass Monday
The end of beta event was just a big free for all with the Rikti. It wasn't really meant to have any story impact that I'm aware of.
It was presaged by the Rikti Mother Ships doing fly-overs of the city. As far I know, the mother ships have never flown over the live game.
One thing I'd want from time travel arcs is less involvement in the actual events. That is, I don't want to get into this habit of creating arcs where the good guys are messing with a historical event one way (say, helping Atlas succeed) while the villains are messing with it another (helping Atlas fail).
If we're going to witness history, I'd rather be working on the outskirts, trying to "fix" small things that went wrong; maybe small things that add up to big things further down the timestream.
Actually, what I'd REALLY like is to do something like what Guild Wars did with their story pack - Put you in the shoes of the hero from the past and live out his/her story. I'd like to become Atlas and fight as a giant monster, trying to hold off the invaders until the reinforcements arrive. I'd like to fight as Statesman taking on the Reichsman and his army.
I'd like to walk into the library, click on a book, and learn about that history by living through it as one of the main characters.
I would love to see a redesign for the Shard to make the stories more engaging (make it co-op too!). That's probably my number one wish for the game right now, as the Shard has so much potential currently being wasted on bad design.
I'd also love to see some short arcs that add flavor to the backstories of different zones. I'm thinking of more custom outdoor maps that grab subsections of zones. For example, an outdoor map of the Talos dock area, expanding on Spanky Rabinowitz's christening of ships.
I mean you could look at just about any of the exploration badges for fodder here. Take a section of the surrounding zone as a instanced outdoor map and give it some mission content.
I'm liking the idea of a Dark Astoria TF that would have (for at least some of it's instanced missions) the zone *without* the fog/darkness... For someone who's bumped into buildings in there since beta, actually being able to SEE THE WHOLE ZONE(!) even for just one mission, would be 'squee'
Maybe if the game engine has the ability, some realtime lifting (or... um...dropping?) of the fog as the team accomplishes (or fails to accomplish) objectives would be quite groovy too Kind of like in RV maybe?
Also (with ref to the above) it'd be great if there was some climatic battle that was so big that you actually *needed* NPC help - same sort of thing as Woodsmans pals in the Eden Trial (but where the NPC's wern't as useless as chocolate fireguards). So for instance you'd have to lift the darkness from several Dark Astoria neighbourhoods in order to have a chance at being able to defeat Lughebu (perhaps he can regen, or summon Adamastor when he's in a 'dark' area or something)... perhaps Lughebu has untyped damage and the NPC's are the only ones that can debuff it (or buff heroes resistance to it - a'la the Reactor Room)...
...be cool if Lughebu couldn't be taunted either - and had some really random 'hate' AI - so instead of clinically meeting him when the team is ready at the end (as is the norm), he autoagro's upon entering and whilst the team are having to run around doing whatever they need to do to uncover the fog/darkness, they are also having to run in terror from Lughebu as he cycles through his agro on the team...maybe even spice it by giving him zone-wide teleport abilities (reuse Sky Raider / Rikti Lt teleport AI), only short/medium-range damage powers (maybe just a slow 'drain health' power, which would scare the ahoihoi out of the recipient, but allow them time to flee)...
Would also be nice to reuse the code from the pedestrians you get city-wide, so he directs verbal taunts at the *names* of his current target...
..ramble....ramble...
Sorry, guess i was in a creative mood. I hope there's some sauce for Hero-1's (as well as Castle, BaB and Posi's) goose in there somewhere...
Yii...
I have a back story related bug. It's pretty minor, but as BAB has implied Hero1 might be peeking in here...
A while back I asked about the actual time line of the invasion as it pertained to the end of Beta event. WHat I got from many sources was that the the Beta game (April 2004) was actually taking place in April of 2002. The end of beta event that wiped out the hero population in April 2004 in our world was really April 2002 in game. Then 2 (in-game) years passed before the game went live. If all of that is right, then there are two typo bugs.
#1. There is a splash screen help/tip/trivia that says the actual invasion was was in 2004.
#2. There is a history plaque in Crey's folley that said the invasion happened in 2000.
My first short story (detective fiction) came out in Jan-2012. Other stories and books to follow, I hope. Because of "real writing". COH was a big part of that happening.

Poison Pill
Villain backstory - Villains have to travel to the nineties and drive Hero Corps out of town. There's a reason that the storm troopers that destroyed the Hero Corps office complex were an unknown villain group. If you want to make it competitive, heroes have to go back and neutralize the false evidence that implicates the Freedom Phalanx (though neutralizing it never fully removes the suspicion for some people).

Which takes me to..Mako before the mutation.
As stated: Ghost Widow before she was all pasty..was she always emo?

Blue Steel...was he a hallmonitor in gradeschool? Did he have a sash instead of a sheild?
thats all that comes to mind atm.

I'd like to see the events:
* That caught the attention of the Rikti in the first place and angered them to war.
* That provoked Doctor Vahz into his ... unique ... surgical cause.

I would like to see more on the story of the Coralax. The falling of the great rock into the ocean that was alive and intelligent (read almost god like in power and mind) that gave birth to the ocean dwelling coralax... and maybe further explaination on why the living coral that was the world to the coralax went silent.
I would also like to see fleshed out more on the hints that seem to impart the idea that the stuff from space that is the origin of the coralax (the coral city), and the meteors from shivans as being related. There may well be a relation between these two entities in some vague way. The way they arrived on earth seems to be quite similiar.

I would like to see the Tsoo fleshed out more, and I'd like their storylines continue on into the higher levels of the game.
And just for [censored] and giggles, I'd also like to see David Lo-Pan and the Three Storms as a single Tsoo AV fight... or something similar.
