    1 (10 trecedillion (10^42) costumes)
I did that long ago as well. Here's a way to not even come close to putting that in perspective.

Print 5 costumes per sheet of paper.
One sheet is about 0.0025 inches thick. Or 400 pages per inch (2000 costumes per inch.)
That gives you 5^39 inches of paper. Or-

    Not Goodbye

The only graphic glitch I ever bothered to take a screenshot of in order to report the bug was an NPC spawn in Port Oakes. I'm pretty sure I still can't post the pic in the open forum.

There is a spot near the movie theater bythe arena where an NPC is squatting, smoking a cigarette, leaning against the wall. Right after one of the issues (8 or 9 I think) the gender filter got taken off that spawn point. When I ran past it was the female skin in the black miniskirt in that spot. I don't know about now, but back then NPC's didn't wear underwear.

I sent the pic to War Witch with a question about the game's teen rating, and she sent back a PM that started with "ACK!"

No one without first hand experience ever accepts this as true.
Those with first hand experience will back me 100%.

Ladybugs bite. They bite hard. In a side by side with red (not fire) ants, I'd rather be bitten by the ant. Spring is a bad time of year to be around them. They get snotty and mean.
  5. This will likely be long and rambly, but that seems to be a trend just now.

First off, I'd like thank the devs, and the staff for doing what they did, as well as they did, for as long as they could. I didn't spend a lot of time on the forums, mainly because I never did work out how to make them tolerable from a user perspective. Also, I knew that if I got too involved in the boards, I'd have less time to play.

    How COH changed my life.

Back in 2004, I joined the game at the urging of a friend. He quit a few months later for whatever the big fantasy MMO at the time was. Horizons, I think. It turned out not to matter much, but when it was clear he wouldn't be back, I started cruising for a new SG. I found Safe Harbor on Champion. Some of you may recall the name.

The SG was still new and actively recruiting. One of the things they sponsored was a writing contest for best origin, best comedy, and best general story. I entered two stories and placed first in general and second in origin. My general story won best overall. When I finally finished the comedy, I sent it to the Fanzine. It was "A Day in the Life" in Issue 1 (A bad PUG from the point of view of a hostage).

That got me thinking I might be able to actually write. I wrote a few more stories in the COH and put them up on a Fanfic site for feedback. Then I started on an epic length one. It came in at 138,000 words, and desperately needed an editor, but I learned a lot while writing it.

Since then, I've been rejected several times from Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, and sold one short story to MuseItUp Publishing. I've got a few novellas from that series nearly ready, and have plans for a series of novels in another. All of which is thanks to this game for getting me off my butt to actually write them.

The other thing that COH taught me was how to make a character. When the game closes, I'll have 98 active characters, and probably 50 or more that didn't make the cut for various reasons. Issue 24 would have added three more. About 85% of them have fleshed out back stories and will live on on a spreadsheet that keeps all that stuff organized.

City of Heroes got me into writing for real. For that, this game will always have a place in my heart.

    Thanks.
  6. The Cthulu Spider (Argiope) on a human hand, for scale. And pants wetting.
    (4 minute Youtube clip)

The Meme spiders were all a form of jumping spider. They don't usually get very big (rarely bigger than a fingernail) and can be fun to play with. I've had two of them chase the spot from a laser pointer. I've had several drink from a drop of water in my hand. I've also lured them over to other spiders I don't like in the house and the jumpers have earned their keep.

The GF and I import them into the house from wherever we find them.
  7. So far the two characters I've logged in have had the window positions reset, but not to the default positions. The nav bar has shifted about one nav bar to to the right, the power trays are about one power tray higher (not docked on the bottom of the screen), and the status bar is about one status bar to the right. The others are all where I left them.

It's almost like the anchor points moved from the top left corner to the top right, or bottom left for the power bars.

For the combat numbers window, my standard list of items has been replaces with range, ranged defense, something else, and melee defense. It was the same on both characters.
  8. If I wanted to post some stories, is this the spot, or is there somewhere better?

    User Interface
    • Setting UI colors/opacity should now properly save.[QUOTE]
And yet, it's still locked at 30% for every window that doesn't pop out of the nav bar.

Chat window, auction house, salvage, recipe, power, incarnate, power trays, pretty much the entire UI that isn't looked at for long enough to click the next mission option is still 30% and will not accept a change to any other value.
  10. Of the bugs introduced with I21 and later, this is by far the LEAST of my concerns.

I crash to desktop due to the game "running out of memory" which is 80% of max.
I crash to desktop when I zone into Atlas if I've been on more than three hours.
I crash to desktop because a PIGG file has an invalid texture, but only once every few days. Verifying the files doesn't seem to catch it, so it must be some quantum thing.
And the MM bug where the pets become non-responsive his hitting me on EVERY SINGLE OUTDOOR INSTANCED MISSION. 100% of them. But I guess that's still too unpredictable to bother tracking down.
An older GUI issue I've had since Going Rogue launched is that I would like to see the mission text. As it is, I have to find something dark to stand in front of to make out the words because the windows never darken no matter what the opacity slider is set to, not that it stays there.

The real irony to all this, or maybe it's the plan, is that we seem to be running on the vBulletin equivalent of the DMV, so the hassle of actually following up on anything quickly grates to the point it would be easier to just ride a bus. I used to check the Dev Tracker daily, but even that is broken now, so there's really no point.

Someone on Twitter commented about the SoCal people making fun of the reaction to "just a 5.9" by saying something like, "You people freak out if it rains more than three days in a row. Let us have this!"

Just tossing this out, but the Palladium Publishing RPG Heroes Unlimited had an expansion called Villains Unlimited. In VU, there were a number of villains pre-made, and one of them was a hardware class (basically, Batman) style villain who used gadgets. One of those villains was named Soundwave (I think) and used sonic blast handguns and traveled on a surfboard which rode on sound waves it generated. There is a second (at least) surfboard travel power that has been in a published work for over 10 years now. Maybe close to 20.
  13. Well turds. I play MM's quite often and once the elevator stopped happening in nearly every mission, then the pets all dying when I leveled (or whatever that was) I didn't have a single issue until the other day. That included running a Demon to 50 playing 6 hours every Sunday. I just figured that one was fixed.

    Thanks.
  14. Id did submit this in game, but I don't see a thread for it so I thought I'd ask if anyone else is having the issue.

I have a Thugs/FF Mastermind who worked well through most of Praetoria. When I got the Anti-matter Mission to find the psychic in the funny helmet (Responsibility path), I zoned in and my pets did nothing. It was like the elevator bug from a few issues back. They all responded with their text, but they would not move or attack.

I tried to dismiss them, which resulted in the pets staying in game, but the interface going away. I had to zone out, then back in. When I got back in the mission, my Thugs came out of a building to join me as normal.

The next time it happened was the Save the Reactor mission. Something slightly different happened. I had to leave the mission to dismiss, then enter and re-summon. Entering while the pets were still out there somewhere didn't allow them to move.

Both of these were outdoor instances, and as far as I can recall, they were the only instance Missions I've done on a MM for a while.

The last time it happened was in Steel Canyon. I crossed over and headed for Icon. I thought it was odd that I had no pets in Icon with me when I talked to Serge, but thought I might have just outrun them.

When I went back out on the street, there they were, crowded around the door, watching me get my butt kicked by the ambush. Between sleeps, I managed to get in the formation of them and they still didn't act. I ended up having to summon Gang War to survive. Nothing I could do would let me gain control of them without leaving Steel Canyon, which I didn't actually try since it was late enough I just logged.

    Anyone else?

Yeah, someone will be getting touched inappropriately or they will die in a car wreck.

"Very Special Episodes" were always productive homework nights.
  16. Thanks for the replies.

My concern isn't that I won't get to keep the character's name in game, I just don't want it to get to the publisher and mess things up on that end.

The only reason I used the name in the first place was everything else I tried was either taken or stupid. A friend had an issue where a name was generic'd for what amounted to a reading failure and a dirty mind on the part of the person reporting it and the GM's the person petitioned after. it was never fixed, so I wouldn't expect to be able to provide any level of proof that would allow me to keep the name in game.

Right now, there is still time to change either one. I'd just like like to know If I need to.
  17. I've got a sort of odd (but still cool) situation I was hoping to clarify. I sent a PM to the devs, but no reply yet, and I'm worried time may be a factor.

I know I can't name a character after a known fictional character. But...

What if I wrote a non fan-fiction story, then made a character in game with the same name, and of vaguely the same type.

For example, I write a SF story and name my hero, a smuggler/rogue, Bob Weever. Then I make a Dual Pistols/EM blaster with a sort of sci-fi outfit, a generic space rogue background, and the same name. A year later, someone buys and publishes that story.

I'm technically the copyright holder of the name, but under the EULA, NCSOFT owns it, meaning I can't use it in the story, correct?

If so, then my next question would be if changing the name in game would make it all a non-issue.

    Thoughts?

Seriously? I can play my Thugs and Merc again? YAY!

Now who's family do we need to take to get the UI opacity resolved?
  19. The guy I run with on Sunday mornings said he spotted a giant tentacle a few months ago, then camped the spot for two more days waiting to get a screen shot of it.

I think he's gonna be bitter.

    MM zone bug

I leave my pets out when I move from mission to mission, but I set them to passive and make them stand at the door of the last mission. They auto TP to catch up with me, but unless I get hung up trying to find a door, they will generally not attract attention.

At the market, I have them wait outside. Same thing for Oro. When I use it to travel, I'll send them off out of the way rather than leave a pile of minions on the portal after I've gone.

    MM zone bug

Recasting the upgrade buff should bring them back under your control but you have to hit each one individually. This is one of several MM bugs that has been around since issue 15 or 16, and is by far the least annoying of them, although the both "apathy mode" and the "ding of death" both seem to be fixed.

Are Thug and Merc Minions still swapping names if you've renamed them?
  22. That Don Knotts inspired, "Oh no, my gun is too slippery" one for Piercing Rounds. That's number one on my list.
Number 2 is all other pistol animations except Executor's Strike. Except he one above, they are all tolerable, but borderline.
I'd like an option that looked more realistic. Rather than Equilibrium, base it on Way of the Gun.

I wouldn't mind some less Power Ranger looking kicks for Martial arts. Mainly that hitch kick thing from the start of Crippling Axe Kick.
And Thug MM's are still tipping the left gun over to one side. That's a bug, right?

None of the others really bother me that much, but the Dual Pistol animations are the main reason I don't like the set.
  23. I find it ironic that "TheOcho" spelled "8" wrong in the thread title...

  24. Any word yet on MM pets randomly swapping names?

Or the door marker on the third mission of Seer Marino's arc getting fixed.
