MM zone bug

Hi

When zoning my pets become "stuck" and cannot be dismissed. This has happened on the ferry and train and even entering missions.
Its making it very difficult to play any of my MM's as the only solution to the problem seems to be constant zoning until (if your lucky) the pets start to respond again.
I have bugged/petetioned the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this bug or is it just me?

Yeah, had it a couple of times. The best solution I found was to zone, dismiss, zone again and resummon. Not had the bug enough to guarantee it works, but so far so good.

I have that bug right now with my thugs MM. I even logged out and came back and they are still stuck. Guess I'll try logging out for a longer time.

Ya, happening a bit to often imo...

I tried going back and forth thru ferry and train, with no luck; once stuck always stuck.
I tried logging out of the game instance, re-log in, and still stuck.
I tried logging out to another alt, and then return an pets are gone, and life is ok

What has worked for me before:
1. Another player teleports me, that seems to move the pets as well.
2. Enter a mission, that seems to work from time to time.

Hugs

Recasting the upgrade buff should bring them back under your control but you have to hit each one individually. This is one of several MM bugs that has been around since issue 15 or 16, and is by far the least annoying of them, although the both "apathy mode" and the "ding of death" both seem to be fixed.

Are Thug and Merc Minions still swapping names if you've renamed them?

My first short story (detective fiction) came out in Jan-2012. Other stories and books to follow, I hope. Because of "real writing". COH was a big part of that happening.

How to get around the MM bug:

1) Hit Every Pet with An Individual Buff.

  • If you're playing any secondary but Dark, Trick Arrow or Traps, then just cast a single-target buff or heal on each of your pets and they will come back under your control.
  • AoE buffs do not regain control of pets. (This is why re-casting your upgrade powers will bring the pet you cast upon back into your control, but not the others around it.)
  • Teammate's single-target buffs count and will bring your pets back under your control.
If you don't have a single-target buff or heal (as in the case of Dark, Trick Arrow and Traps), then:

2) Dismiss and Resummon.
  • To dismiss, type /petcom_all DISMISS or /release_pets in your chat bar. (As the OP has noted, you can't dismiss them by right-clicking on them when they're not under your control.)
  • Resummon as normal.

Yes, it's a bug, and yes, it needs to be fixed, but it doesn't make the game unplayable. This bug also affects Controllers and Dominators on occassion, and the work-arounds are the same for those ATs.

I've had the bug happen a few times, but release_pets works for me now that I know of it.

I've also noticed that every time you and the pets zone they will get the upgrade buffs again, but the buff will have a number that grows every time you zone, like another stack of it being put on.

That can't be good and feels related.

You know, you could just dismiss them before you transition and hold off re-summoning them until you actually need them. I've never understood the desire of apparently most MM's to have a train of pets chasing them all over the great outdoors. And no, I don't think fear of the once-in-a-blue-moon ambush is a particularly good reason.

At any rate, My theory is that it has to do with lag. If the pets are re-created on the other side (they don't actually transition with you) before you've fully transitioned in then they'll be masterless. I've noticed the faster someone is at transitions the less it happens to them, and the slower the more often.

Its no different than when someone with SuperSpeed runs up to the BM and stands there taking care of business while the aura is still shining brightly. Why should I dismiss my pets only to call them back into existence 2 or 3 minutes later at the next mission?

Are you really saying the SS aura is the same as 6 pets at the BM taking up space?

Also single target buffs on pets look to be dropping on zoning.

Mainly because it takes over a bar of end to summon all 3 tiers and use both upgrades plus the time it takes making your teammates wait. Yup, if I'm not missioning for a while I'll release them, but if I'm moving from one mish to another I won't.

Thanks for all the replies guys,

Just a few things to note,

1st when i said i dismiss the pets i was talking about using the petcom_dismiss all command and not dismissing individually, so even this command didnt work for me
2nd in my case i needed the pets outside the mission as it was a kill mission in creys folly i was trying to get done
3rd logging out and jumping onto another alt then relogging back to the mm seems to be the only work around that works so for me in team this becomes a right royal pain in the *** and also a pain for my teammates

So to sum up thanks for all the input guys and hopefully the powers that be will recognise how important it is to fix this bug

Message from Gm's is that they are aware of the problem and are looking for a fix, they also say the best way to get pets back under your control is for you to attack enemies and that should release the pets, ill try this once the servers are back up

I don't believe I mentioned the market at all although now that you mention it... boo on demons in the market. Gah what a noise!

That's because the pets do not actually transition. They are killed in the old zone and re-created in the new one. They seem to get the MM buffs back but not any others.

Point taken. However, you should watch your aggro. Just last night a demon MM in PI ran to the entrance of our mission where we were waiting for the rest of our party. He waited for a moment for his demons to catch up then entered the mission, ignoring the aggro train of devouring earth that followed his pets to the door. We were stuck cleaning that up. Fortunately it wasn't a big deal but if we had been a few levels lower it would have bordered on griefing.

I leave my pets out when I move from mission to mission, but I set them to passive and make them stand at the door of the last mission. They auto TP to catch up with me, but unless I get hung up trying to find a door, they will generally not attract attention.

At the market, I have them wait outside. Same thing for Oro. When I use it to travel, I'll send them off out of the way rather than leave a pile of minions on the portal after I've gone.
