Computer random Crash
Guide at the top will tell you how to submit a CoH Helper log, which will be of benefit here.
I can say that you have some interesting services/start ups that you can disable with msconfig. You can uncheck them in the start up and service tabs.
I'm going to go with the video drivers, though, are outdated and you probably need to upgrade them. That's where the CoH Helper log will be handy. As of now, that's just a guess.

if the drivers don't fix the issue. check that your pc fans are fine so your not over heating. (if your pc is a few years old) you could have a bad cap in the power supply or mother board so that under load your pc crashes. there not dust inside. if there not dust try running memtest to see if you have some bad ram. if it passes I would try running a gpu burn in program and see if there and issue with the gpu or forcing the system power is causing the issue.

It's odd that you say my vid drivers are out of date..I DL'd and updated them shortly after DL'ding CoX..One of my start ups is Nvidia control panel and it's telling me I'm up to date..As far CoH Helper, I've tried following links to it but always get 404 error.

Like I said, it was a guess on the video drivers, pending the helper upload from ya.
I see nothing in the log that looks suspicious, although it obviously doesn't think your sound drivers are all that current. Still, if it works don't mess with them.
I also see nothing else except maybe a software interaction issue, and so, per your request, here's the things I'd take out for testing:
I'm not real sure why these are in the Hosts file, as usually you wouldn't do that unless you had real issues with the particular website/domain name. However, they won't necessarily hurt anything, as long as they're absolutely correct.

Remember, you are *testing* to see if the thing will work in a basic form. KISS is what is to be employed here, *only* enough to get it working. If you then add one and it works, great. Add another, work, awesome. Add a third, boom it breaks... you've found ONE of the possibles. Test them all.
And also, combinations might cause the issue. Perhaps the Malwarebytes and the Killer Network don't like each others. Or the Steroscopic 3D from NVidia coupled with the Sidebar. Kinda like Joker Products in Batman.
Finally, no guarantees. You can have a brand new blank, only Windows, the required drivers only, and Co* setup, and something about the motherboard or video or ? hardware wise isn't going to let you run. It does happen. It could be your power supply can't handle what it once could, as it's aged a little. It could be literally anything. So you are testing to see how you can affect the machine with the software. AND... you can break something else you're doing with these, such as without the Punkbuster, some game won't run.
It sucks. I know, I've had to do it before. But you have to do it. Hope that helps ya figure it out... if it's any of these in the first place, that is. Good luck!

That nvidia driver has been buggy for some people, you might want to try an older driver set, 295.73 has been pretty good, and the older 275.33 is one I can recommend. There is a newer driver set out if you want to give it a shot, head over to guru3d forums under the nvidia drivers threads to have a look.
Did the game run in Safe Mode? If it will, then try turning down some eye candy, starting with turning the Ambient Occlusion to off.
Malwarebytes doesn't need to be running at all, just update and run the program once a week or so, then shut it down.
I I tried disabling and playing testing each one..and no joy..whole computer still randomly crashes. I can't think of why..I run BF3..which is graphic/memory intensive w/o issue. Before my 'break' I ran CoX without problems..only thing that has changed with the game is now there is a launcher that you have to go, and a few minor graphics upgrades.
Sometimes I crash right after my char. appears in the server..sometimes when I zone, and so far ALWAYS within 5min of entering a mission. So far the only place that is safe is in the costume shop, or char. creator.

CoH doesn't like this GPU in particular. A few other users who have this GPU had issues and I don't think they ever were able to get them resolved.

Turn Ambient Occlusion to OFF. Completely OFF. No Advanced Occlusion, nothing.
AO puts a big load on a system and I've seen reports of some really strange behavior that was resolved by turning it OFF.
I'd also suggest turning World Detail Level to High, Water Quality to High and Bloom to OFF.
And as Terra Shock suggests, try an older driver. Of course, be sure to use proper clean video driver installation steps of Uninstall, reboot to Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper, reboot to normal mode and install older drivers.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

The comp still crashes..I had my speakers turned up this time..and to be more descriptive of what happens: I get a sound repeating, sound like a 'bapbapbapbapbap' my screen goes black, and my monitor goes to 'power save mode' like it does when I leave it on after turning comp off..then I hit power button to do a hard reboot. Before I go with old drivers could it have anything to do with me having 2 vid cards and running it in SLI?
How do you go to safe mode again? I used to know..but as this is the 1st time I've really had an issue with a game, (as I said battlefield 3 runs great), I haven't had to go to it.
(p.s.) after hearing the noise with the crash I updated my sound driver..and it still does the same random comp crash/lockup

houtex, the KillerNIC, and other similar processes, are the network device drivers. That is a specialty "gaming network card" that is supposed to prioritize gaming network traffic.
That is not likely to be causing the issue, unless it is malfunctioning.

|
2) I believe City of Heroes has had past issues with SLI. It may require a config file change to work, or something.
I can't remember the link, but it should be somewhere here in the forums that an explanation on how to enable SLI is posted. Though, I think it is still considered "in beta" and not working properly, due to how old CoH is and how hard it is to change the underlying engine code.
Edit:
Also, you want your graphics settings "application controlled", not controlled in the Nvidia Control Panel or other overall control. That could cause issues if the game settings are different.
It's also a good idea to make sure nothing in your computer gets over 70C, degrees Celsius, as that will cause a crash due to overheating if it goes over 80 or 90.
Nvidia cards have had overheating issues due to slow fan speeds and sluggish speed ramp up on the fan. I solved this with Nvidia System Tools 6.06 and manually setting fan speed to at least 65% and usually 70% so that it keeps it cooler at all times and is fast enough to cool at max load: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_...ools_6.06.html
Ok, I've done all of that with the exception of going with older drivers..which is odd advice since the 1st thing anyone says is ' update your drivers'..

ok..read a thread about adding -slifbos 2 to the properties portion of CoH..one thing I noticed and not sure if it matters is the command line looks different from the one in the posts: mine is C:\Program Files\NCsoft\City of Heroes, where as the ones in the posts are: C:\Program Files(X86)\City of Heroes. don't know if that matters..I'm just throwing crap at the wall at this point to see if it sticks, as nothing else has worked. I even turned the graphics setting down to 'recommended'..I'm starting to feel like my return to CoX is gonna be short lived. I haven't played for more than 10min since re-upping
another piece of the puzzle: tried running in 'safe mode' same type of crash as every other time..so I guess it's not the graphics setting..

out of curiosity, why are there so many explorer things going on..I use FireFox..I thought I'd gotten rid of the IE stuff.

Can't get rid of all IE stuff, unless you go to a different OS, Microsoft likes it that way I guess.
Did you try disabling the SLI function in nvidia control panel? That has helped some people with issues on this card. Not the best solution, but maybe you can isolate the problem. Also check the "event viewer" for errors, and see if you have any error codes that might help track it down.

Just wondering, do you have the NCLauncher set to close after launching? If not, its under File --> Settings, the first tab in a drop done menu.
And to launch the game in safe mode run the launcher, click on City of Heroes then click on the arrow to the right of it. Select Properties and you'll see a check box for Launch in Safe Mode.
As for the Event Viewer, its built into Windows, here's the instructions I was given to use it:
1.) From within windows operating system click on the start button. 2.) In the Text Box above the start button type in EventVwr and press enter. 3.) In the left side of the screen you will see Event Viewer (Local) and then underneath it Windows Logs double Click on it. 4.) Then right click on Applications Icon and click on Save all events as Option. A window will pop up, double click desktop icon located on the far left top. 5.) Then in the file name box at the bottom of the window, type in APPLICATION and click save 6.) Then right click on Systems Icon and click on Save all events as Option. A window will pop up, double click desktop icon located on the far left top. 7.) Then in the file name box at the bottom of the window, type in System and click save. |

the command line looks different from the one in the posts: mine is C:\Program Files\NCsoft\City of Heroes, where as the ones in the posts are: C:\Program Files(X86)\City of Heroes. don't know if that matters.
|
on a 32 bit OS the default folder will be
C:\Program Files\NCsoft\City of Heroes
on a 64 bit OS 32bit applications are installed to Program Files(x86)
and 64 bit applications to Program Files
so the default install location in that case would be
C:\Program Files(x86)\City of Heroes
You can install to a different location if you wish.

Ok, so I set up the event view to put the logs on my desk top..what am I looking for? I took a look at it..any none of it gives a clue as to 'failures' 'crashes' lockups'. If anything the various things I've done have made the crashing more frequent..before I could SOMETIMES run around a zone for a couple min..now I crash as soon as my char. spawns. Wish I could just do a team viewer thing and have someone take a look at whats going on.
That said; thank you all very much for trying to help me up to this point. I appreciate it!

Look in the "application" and "system" logs for codes marked as "error". Searching on google for that specific error code might help lead you to a solution.
Hello all..I'm back after a 3-4yr break..before I left everything worked fine..I DL'd/installed game yesterday to start playing. Now however I randomly crash..sometimes it's when I zone, sometimes it is right after my game loads and I see my char. for a sec. then my computer crashes and does an auto reboot. I downloaded 'hijack this'..not sure if this is what you guys need to help, (I have no exp. with this stuff):
