What the heck are you people talking about?
[/ QUOTE ]
History. You should learn some of yours so you'll understand us old men of the gaming world.
/geezeron
When I was as new to gaming as you, we had to roll 3d6 for our stats! In order! And what class you could play was determined by those rolls ! And that was only if your race allowed it! And we had to roll our first hit dice so it was possible to have a Magic-User with more hit points than the Fighter! And everyone leveled up at different speeds! And... And...
/geezeroff
[/ QUOTE ]
And, all those die rolls were done manually. We actually had to pick up the dice from the table and throw them (gently) back down to the table. How...redundant is that? -

I'm surprised they don't lazy out and do something like 'dual mace.'
Just lethal > smashing, use same animation but with batons, and there you go!
(Actually, come to think of it... that WOULD be kinda neat...)
[/ QUOTE ]
If we were going to do some sort of dual smashing weapon powerset, I'd definitely go with more Escrima flavored animations.
[/ QUOTE ]
Have you been watching the movie The Perfect Weapon? -

-Waves white flag-
Ok what if they suspended people from making toons on Freedom and Virtue for a couple months. I mean damn...theyre filled! Seriously there really wouldnt be any harm or fowl, and the other servers do need a boost
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm noticing a theme in your posts in this thread.
You want the universe to change to accomodate you.
How about you just pony up the $10 and move to Freedom or Virtue? Did they stop the paid transfers or something recently? -

Whoa, CuppaJo is back? Wow, neat! Does this mean that EMPulse is gone now?
(Sits back and watches amusedly as things stir up...)
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless, of course, CuppaJo IS EMPulse.

Short but busy. As you can no doubt tell by the name, it's NOT a serious arc. There's some goof-off-ery afoot.

I liked this mission. I do have to say, Papa C'Pul'et (or how ever it was spelled) was almost too difficult for me as a 50 SS/Inv/EM tanker. Not unsatisfying as the badguy went down! -

Remember the rule in the first post of this thread: You review an arc, then put one of yours up for review. That's why people have been getting skipped the last few pages.

I put mine up already but I guess it wouldn't hurt to repost since I have changed it (again).
#2649 "Nerf Herder must go!" (comedy)
I'm going to figure out why I can't edit the bio on one of the lesser bosses one of these days....minor thing...but slightly annoying.
[/ QUOTE ]
My suggestion would be to drop Everyman and Nerf Herder to EB's. I couldn't get by them (solo) as a Inv/SS/EM tanker.
Maybe change up the costumes for the regular not-fun guys. It's purely subjective, but they didn't much appeal to me.
Ok, that was the bad part, the good part was the fun stuff like the cheetos and the contact. I liked those. Tossing the Nazis in was a good time too.
In short, the jokes were fun. Just check the difficulty of those upper end mobs and you're golden.

The levels seem to be a bit all over. If possible, add NPCs to the missions to stream line it (a contaminated boss in each mission, maybe). Helen Klein has a LOT of text. Might want to condense it or cut some out by adding it to the clue. The second mission send off text should be expanded as it's pretty short. Third mission barrel has no "collecting" text on the progress bar. Mission four safe has no "collecting" text on the progress bar. Adding a synopsis of the missions I just ran to the Souvenirs would be nice too, look to souvenirs in-game to see examples of that, I suppose.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the feedback!
The level issue is frustrating for me. I wish we were given more control over the levels. Even if it were just to narrow the range Is there any way to tighten those levels up without adding an arbitrary seeming boss to the encounter?
I've taken the rest of your input to heart too. I expanded the second mission's send-off somewhat, I've added the missing interaction text. and flavored up the souvenir.
Thanks for running my mission. -

I guess I should put mine up now.
title: Nerf Herder must go!
#2649 (comedy)
2 mish, 1 EB in first, 1 AV in 2nd. Lower diff if solo.
Nerf Herder and his infamous Anti-fun league are on the loose! They are teaming up with the exiled (and angry) 5th Column to acquire a shipment of nerf bats to use on the playerbase.
You've got to stop that shipment and ban Nerf Herder from the message boards!
[/ QUOTE ]
Great premise. You weren't kidding about lowering difficulty if solo! Was an all around good time.

So are you saying you're using the iPhone to run the Co* client, or are you using the networking capabilities of the iPhone to provide the internet connection?
Because one isn't very impressive, but the other would be....a very good reason to buy a iPhone for me... -
That's a commonly presented solution, one I'm not at all opposed to.

It is 20-29.
Fuzun's guide was correct in Beta (he even corrected mistakes in my guide), this must be simply a typo.

Ok, but...my SoA is 21 and he says to come back at level 20. Is that supposed to be 30? I did the first bit where I get the 8 relics. -

[/ QUOTE ]
Eh, my experience is usually those who try to alter cannon in their RP tend to get real p***y if you treat their character IC like they're insane because you're not willing to let them unilaterally decide to alter the established world... ( Doing so is a form of godmoding, which is highly frowned on )
[/ QUOTE ]
Yah, they do get pissy about it.
But if YOU'RE RPing and someone starts spouting off things you know aren't "true", it makes sense to treat them like they're a crazy.
The whole thing is rather conspiracy theory-ish after all.
And stuff like this is one variety of things that ensure I won't RP in a MMO. -

Eh, well, I don't hold it against the devs for not catering to OCD players.
[/ QUOTE ]
How about catering to people with trained eyes that can tell the difference between a texture that was bumpmapped and one that wasn't?
[/ QUOTE ]
There's a difference between being able to tell the difference and obsessing over the difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have to admit, DT, and I've liked your posts in the past, that when I see the difference, it irritates me. I still use it because it's as close as I can get, but it irritates me.
I'm also irritated because of a lack of "rough leather" available all over instead of just one spot. "Sleek" isn't available in each slot either...
Then again, I'm mildly irritable, and I know it, so I don't complain about it much. -
[ QUOTE ]
I do have to say, that charging for the Wedding Pack, they should be prepared to expect complaints from paying customers.
There, I said it.

[/ QUOTE ]
Even though I'm fully in agreement with them charging for that, they very well should expect complaints.
Note: I consider myself a gamer. Keep that in mind when you read the next bit that follows.
Gamers are the whiniest, complainingest, gripingest beings to convert oxygen into carbon dioxide. It's what we do. I doubt for one minute the devs didn't expect much wailing and gnashing of teeth. -

[ QUOTE ]
Ok I'm projecting forward a bit here because I've played so many of these games and I feel like I know where this is going which I admit is not fair of me. What I am seeing is that this is just the first. It's a test to see how many people will pay $10 for very little. Not only that, but to judge the reactions of the players. At the way it's looking now the test might work well for them. What would that mean? What I see is that the next time there's a new set of costume options to add they don't put it in for free. Instead they charge $10 for it. Instead of adding new emotes the charge $10 for it. This is what I feel would be wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, why is that wrong?
They make something new, something not required to play the game. They price it. They offer it for sale. Where's the "wrong" in that? You can play the game exactly as before without paying for the doo-dad they offer.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because part of our monthly fee was already supposed to pay for that. Now, they're reducing the resources for those of us who just pay the monthly fee to produce for their "premium" customers, who are willing to pay through the nose for extras that before NC $oft we were already paying for, and receiving, with no additional price, or hassle.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? You have something that says the fees are supposed to go toward free costumes for the lifespan of the game?
When was the last time CoH raised it's fees? You think the cost of...well...everything hasn't gone up since then?
Yet you seem to believe you should be able to get everything free forever.
Which would you rather see, a fee increase or them offer thise packs for the people who want it?
And no, they didn't reduce any resources. You have exactly the same things you had available to you before the patch. Nothing was reduced. -
[ QUOTE ]
From what I understand, we have it pretty good compared to other MMOs in regard to continually having to buy expansions. I just don't see this as a problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wish we had paid expansions every 6-9 months. That's the model EQ1 used in it's early days and it was nice.
Paid expansions greatly expanded the game in virtually every way. They hugely expanded the play area (13-15 zones), character development and choices (adding new character races and/or classes), styles of play (each expansion added something new, like character levels or alternate advancement...or both. New abilities, etc).
Instead they took the planned paid expansion and gave it away for free to the playerbase. That sure sounds greedy to me... -

[ QUOTE ]
Charging $10 for costume pieces and emotes is outragous. That is about 1/3rd the oriuce of an EQ expansion which, even now, do more than three times what this does easily.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is a perfectly valid opinion, one I share, actually.
[ QUOTE ]
This is NCSoft being greedy pure and simple. Instead of giving the playerbase, which helps pay them regulerly, a gift they decided to charge additional.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, ONE pack of very optional stuff, compared to how many costumes, zones, updates, powersets, etc given for free? You and I apparently have very differing definitions of the word 'greedy'.
I don't consider $10 for the offered costumes and emotes to be greedy. Over-priced, sure. But not greedy.
Greedy would have been demanding free stuff on top of all the free stuff the playerbase has been given.
Oh, wait... -

[ QUOTE ]
To say they have "lost" something presumes they have a fundamental right to it, that they're entitled to it simply because it exists.
That's a stance I cannot agree with.
[/ QUOTE ]
And yours is a stance I can not agree with. The reason MMOs charge $15 a month is two-fold. The first reason is to maintain the servers. The second is to hire a development team to program free upgrades. If this is $10 package thing becomes standard then we are missing out on upgrades which should have been free in the first place.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well...that's not precisely so.
Honestly, CoH spoils it's players thoroughly. Every other MMO I've played (and that's fairly long list) would have charged for expansions for things CoH gives it's players for free. RWZ would likely have been a "bigger" update, for example, and been boxed up as an expansion for sale. Same with some of the other additions.
In the multiple years I played EQ, we got exactly 2 zones for free. There were precisely 2 holiday events (one of which ended up getting re-used for hallowe'en every year). There wasn't anything at all like costume slots.
In fact, I don't know of a single game where anything other than a very minor addition/upgrade to the game is given away, except CoH.
In the MMO model, the money you pay for subscriptions goes toward keeping the lights on and maintenance on the game itself. Future development is done in anticipation of dollars received from people buying the expansions.
The players haven't "lost" anything in the scenario presented, because it was never theirs to lose.
Before the patch, the players didn't have access to those costume pieces or emotes. Some, I'm sure, have not purchased the pack because they either can't, or won't. They haven't "lost" anything, because they never had it.
What has happened is they haven't gotten an extra for free, as they were used to doing. -

To me.. it seems like a huge rip off.
$10 for some costumes that I doubt I'll ever use and four lowly emotes? No powers? No badge? $10 for something that I expect to see in most updates?
HUGE rip-off.
[/ QUOTE ]
Think of it this way:
You will never use it so you don't buy it. EVEN
Other people suppliment development costs by buying them: WIN
So overall you win!

Unless it does so well that we get future packs with low VFM. How long until something people really want is in a $10 pack with little content? What if the Roman costume is released on it's own for $10? People will buy it, money goes into the NCsoft account. A lot of people lose then though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait, how do they "lose"? NCSoft offers a product. Some people pay for that product. Maybe enough people buy it to justify NCSoft trying such a thing in the future, maybe not.
Where do people lose again?

Pack is a success. Future pack released. Item person wants included. High price for not a lot. Person doesn't buy it due to it costing too much. They lose.
