Post an obscure tidbit about CoH that no one else knows

Here's something I noticed a few months after launch. In Dark Astoria, in the far corner just north of the Dido's View marker, there was a Super Bowl.

I never bothered to check that again until now; it bears the normal "Super Lanes" logo nowadays, both in DA and Echo: DA. I'm guessing that Super Lanes was Super Bowl during development, but someone decided it might infringe the copyright of the Big Football Game. So they changed the sign, but forgot to change that one, but eventually discovered and fixed it.

I am a canon character in the game.

Will always be my favorite Easter Egg. I'll post a picture later, when I find it. Never encountered him myself, since you have to be a dirty, stinkin' hero to get to him.

There is a 'jedi grab' animation that you could do with the Crey Pistol, after activating a series of temporary powers.

In the original Outbreak map, there are some tall buildings that have religious figures sculpted on the sides at the top - monks of some sort. Can't say I've seen them elsewhere in the game that I recall. Odd thing about these ones is the walls they're part of are translucent...

It's an alpha channel thing I think - why they should be so is a mystery to me. perhaps the intention was to have stained glass windows? Anyway, I still have a PB parked on the original Outbreak map somewhere so I'll try to fly up and get a screenshot of said architecture sometime if I can

They are all over Steel Canyon, old Atlas and Echo of Galaxy City as well.

I sent a bug report about them once an issue from i11 onwards but gave up after Ultramode.

Healing in City of does not cause aggro. Far, far too many people think it does, even after 8 years.

You can get under the map on the Mary MacComber mission (and all missions that use that Croatoa map) of Katie Hannon's Task Force. While under the map, you can attack enemies, but they cannot attack you.

Ms. Liberty was not originally supposed to be Statesman's granddaughter and Maria Jenkins was originally a long-retired Maiden Justice, but that was all changed for CoV/Web of Arachnos without retconning the whole implied TyrantXDominatrix...thing.

An Archery/Mental Manipulation Blaster can clear a Battle Maiden farm faster than a Fire Control/Kinetics Controller. Well, at least mine could...

Jack Emmert was "Jackalope" on the forums.

Michael Lewis and Rick Dakan founded Cryptic Studios and City of Heroes was their brainchild. Rick was "let go" in 2003, before he could even see CoH released; he's currently working for Mob Rules Games. Michael was with Cryptic until at least the launch of STO; he is currently the President of The Lewis Charitable Foundation.

At the launch of City of Heroes, Cryptic had a booth set up for GenCon, showing off their new game. They had many computers arranged so you could play a demo.

Inside a closed off area in the back of the booth were several more computers. They had a decidedly different game on many of them, however.

The World of Warcraft beta.

Isn't that the name he used on the CO forums? AFAIK, he was always States here.

I created the character "Arachnos Commander" on day one of CoV headstart, on Virtue. Issue 8 rolled out and then there was an NPC boss named Arachnos Commander. Coincidence? Most likely. But I'm still going to believe what I want.

Also, I was the very first VEAT. (see signature) :P

The Rikti Crash Sight doesn't have the auto kick out players that Faultline was given. I still have a character parked there and cruise around the place occasionally.

can you get radio missions there? cause if you can you can probably get other players in with you via the tp to mission power.

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

Shadowstar is the only Warshade in the game capable of flying in human form, as seen in Dark Astoria's finale.

It's heavily implied that Indiana Jones married Sophia Hapgood in Primal Earth - you actually have to rescue Sophia Jones in a radio mission.

According to the billboards you find all over town, Chris Jenkins is Paragon City's resident ambulance chaser, so make sure to give him a call whenever you lose a fight in PvP.

Actually, it used to. I was in a group, with a sorry excuse for a tank that thought he could herd without taunt. If there are tanks out there that can do that, he wasn't one of them.

So, I had my heal on spam, because he was getting his butt kicked. I had been using control powers, but quickly stopped, when I realized aggro was coming my way instead of the tank's.

But my aura heal kept pulling aggro off the tank, and towards me. Mind you, this was a few years ago ... But there ya go.

That wasn't the heal generating aggro. When you attacked, you were put on their aggro list. NOTHING short of your death, theirs, or a Placate will remove you from that list, though you can be bumped really low. As long as the enemies are in combat mode, they can attack anything on their list, though they show a preference for the ones at the top.

It's most likely that the tank was pushing himself over the aggro cap and shedding aggro on the extra enemies, who started going after the next thing on their aggro list - you.

You defeat a Tsoo NPC named "Storm Strider" twice in two separate missions. One is a collection of cursed weapons where the mission description references him directly, whereas he's just the Resident Named Boss in another genericky mission.

And those magic types have to ride in the rear-most train cart, or the engine will start acting up.

I'm not sure when it was broken, but the old Faultline and Galaxy City (the real one, not the Echo) no longer have a working auto-kick. You can safely log in a character parked there and run around in those zones.

The co-op wedding event zone does still auto kick, and if you logged out there the character select will say 'Ouroboros', but you'll be booted to Atlas / Mercy within a few seconds of zoning in.

We were nowhere near the aggro cap. This was well before players could set their own diff. There were 3 of us on the team. The tank -tried- to herd 8 at a time, and failed miserably.

I don't know game mechanics enough to know whether the 'hit list' can carry mob to mob like it did ... though I sincerely doubt it. I stopped attacking -really- early in the map. Broke LoS and only came in range to fire off heals. And every mob broke off the tank and went straight for me. *shrug* My opinion remains.

It's funny, but I think there was a time when healing would cause aggro. I think I even recall a dev confirming this in the forums because at the time I was actively playing my illus/emp, and it was disappointing to learn this. But I don't have details to provide.
