Those going or are in CO
But... I can't log on with them. Something about them being "Gold," and I guess I'm "Silver," but I don't know what that means. I'm guessing it's me being a Free player now Vs. paying at the time I made those, but I don't know if there is anything to do about that.

I really like some of the car designs. They have a retro-car-of-the-future look about them. They remind me of some old concept car designs.

Yeah I tried CO twice...no thanks.
Pretty much decided if nothing comes from the negotiations...that I am done with MMOs. I have tried DCUO, CO, GW, GW2, and SWTOR...none of which appealed to me in the slightest. |
SWTOR is working as a nice 'solo' game for now, until I tap out the story lines. Just finished Chapter 1 of the Sith Warrior, and I gotta say it nailed how to let a character feel like a villain.
Sam, in CO try the Until Action Pack "Aftershock". It is part 3, following on Serpent Lantern and Demonflame, but those are both absolutely frustrating unless you have a really solid team. Aftershock can be solo'd, even by me on a freebie not-very smartly equipped Unleashed AT. It is creepy, it is fun, it has some totally unique mechanics (one mission you have to control NPC movements by talking to them in Local chat), and a suitably epic climax.

As for myself, I've been playing a lot of CO. My global there is the same as here (@BellaStrega). There are mission bugs in several missions that are pretty frustrating, but they can be bypassed via GM or in some cases teaming.
I don't really have any issues with the graphics or the character appearances.

Freeform is worth the 15/month sub alone (for me at least). Or just pay about $50 in points I think plus or minus $5 or so, and play for free for 3 1/3rd of a month about and get the investment back, assuming that a person wont catch altitus. As there is only one server and thus two slots. |

I'm over there too. @clcmercy.
Graphics are shiny, but....I don't like the art style at all. The cars. DEAR GOD, the cars that ride around. The avatars...they look so shiny, so....full of potential...and then..BAM. Those disproportionate arms/hands/legs. Much tweaking is needed in the costume editor to get it back to normal...and you're STILL stuck with the same face as everone else. Yeah, it's buggy. Been playing it for a couple weeks now and found at least three "TF's" (CO's version of task forces are called...ummm...I forget.) that were bugged so badly they could not be finished. Even by teams. And the impression I got from the forum boards was that they have been like that for a while now. So....don't like the graphics, don't like the buggy....but...DCUO is right out. I can stand that game even less than CO. Splitting my time between CO and The Secret World at the moment. Crafting and gear is a bit esoteric in TSW, but it's not that hard to figure out. Plus, it's getting back on track with support, development and content releases. Seems promising. Currently play on Arcadia server, one of the two RP servers there. Leviathan is the other. There's no "global" handles in TSW as far as I can tell, either. |
Why does everyone hate DCUO? That's another I tried for a month at launch. I only stuck with it for the month, so obviously I didn't love it, but I played it a whole lot. I downloaded that along with CO, and my existing account was still there. I had to "disable" some of the characters I created, as a free account is limited to only 6 characters, but there was definitely less obstruction than CO has built in.
Yeah, as someone else confirmed "Gold" is a subscriber. When you select a character, I *think* there should be a "Re-Train" button on the right side that might allow you to make an old existing Freeform character into a Silver-compatible AT character. I'm not certain, because when I looked at the options I decided that playing for free wasn't going to work for me at all before I even logged in again.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
You should give the Inquisitor a go. I loved the Sith Warrior storyline, but the Sith Inquisitor was even more entertaining.

(Aside, ATM, I'm pushing my warrrior who is of the Sith race so I can unlock that for a Jedi story as that dichotomy appeals to me for that.)
Yeah, chances are I'll be mainlining CO for my superhero fix if this game goes down for good. While it's no CoX, it's fun enough to keep me if I don't have CoX anymore.
Been trying it out a while now, handle @deviousme.

Characters
CO has gotten a lot better since launch, but they have a bad habit of not warning you when a mission has special requirements. I started the "Nighthawk" storyline and got most of the way through it, only to find out that I had to have a team to do the last mission. Another time, I started the "Resistance" storyline, which involves a lonnnng series of missions on a Praetoria-ish alternate Earth. I didn't have time to finish the whole thing, so I logged off in the middle, and when I came back the next day, I was all the way back at the beginning. WTF?

Ah. When I played DCUO, I used a PS3 controller. Yesterday when I redownloaded it, I was already a bit annoyed by the keyboard/mouse controls. It was mostly the extraneous buttons (hold E to open something, for one), but CO has a bit of that too (click z to talk to someone... Rather than just clicking them).
If I try DCUO anymore, it will likely be with the PS3 controller again.

I really hated CO in all aspects at first. But I got a new computer and graphics card, so it no longer makes me motion sick. I found the face tweaks in the character creator, so my characters look less cartoonish. A lot of other aspects about the design stink (like having to share a mission to get a team mate into it), but they're no worse than WoW or other games.
On the other hand, it does have some things that CoH doesn't: there are many costume options that have been declared "impossible" in CoH, like long skirts and a great deal of control over anatomy.
What I find exasperating is that the characters in STO look great, but Cryptic has chosen to make CO characters look ridiculous even though the games use the same engine (you can even talk via globals to friends playing STO from CO).
I'm clowning around in it now on a new Silver (Freebie) account. I subscribed the first two months, and now can't get back in on my old account, ah well. The game is better since launch, but still too many buggy missions, especially post level 30, for a game that has been out 4? years. Lemuria and parts of Monster Isle still look like complete garbage, especially compared to Ultra Mode CoH. I see in zone chat and certain channels in CO people claiming how dated CoH looks now, and I wonder if they are looking at the same games.
Nearly level 40 now, and I'll give it another go with a different type of character. To be honest, I think the silver archetypes work, and are a good idea for new players. It's hard to mess up making a playable character this way, and when you're ready for something better, you can go freeform. Still way too much stuff that doesn't work very intuitively though. (How do I delete/sell salvage that can't be sold/deleted? It's going to stay on my guy forever?). The crafting tutorial really feels 1/2 done, especially compared to CoH's
Anyways, in CO @RolloTomassi
"Can play" is not a binary. It's a float.
There are some pretty low values of "can play" out there.

The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off
CO has been out since September 2009.
I initially had a bit of difficulty getting access to my original (post-beta) account as well, but after a bit of wrangling with PW support, it was worked out satisfactorily.

I am checking out CO, and I have a Lifetime sub to STO, @Pheonyx there.

Remember, CO came out before STO, and STO needed to look more realistic... but yes, I would love to see the STO character textures ported over to CO; then it would be MUCH closer to appearance of CoH characters (which will be the first big disconnect that a CoH player will have with CO is the character appearance); I'd rather have the realistic looking characters in a "cartoony hero world" than the current ones.

Before I start on this let me say CoX is my first love. And while I'm hoping beyond all hopes that it's saved 11/30 will really be a dark day for me when it finally closes.
Now on to the rest.
I started playing CO the first week of this month (starting as a gold member) and after dealing with the (beeping) learning curve I've started to like the game (especially after a turned off the (beeping) toon outline feature also liking the pen & paper version doesn't hurt). And have started recreating some of my favorite CoX toons to CO. And with many other CoX players making the move the place is starting to have a CoX vibe to it (with costume contests an all).
In short it isn't CoX but it'll do.
Frankly I'm just glad to have a good, welcoming place to keep being super in.

Frankly, Star Trek Online is simply a better game. I stayed away from it because I don't like Star Trek, but a friend of mine won me over, so I finally gave the game a chance. My first thoughts were "Dear god! Why is that body and face editor not in Champions?!?" And I don't even mean all the "rubber forehead" face clutter, just the general body tuning, and especially the face sliders.
Even for a pure human, Star Trek has such face sliders that I can make not just a ton of different faces, but also a lot of faces that exude a specific character personality. The body editor isn't as "extreme" as in Champions, sure, but it also gives me control over my waist! Hallelujah!
I do not get why the Champions Online costume editor has such poor slider control, such blatant omissions and why you can't do anything with faces but make them fugly. I know Star Trek Online is a newer game, but good grief, people!
I actually think I'll be spending more time in Star Trek than in Champions. Sure, the universe isn't as accepting to my weirder designs, but at least it takes itself seriously for what designs I come up with to come off as meaningful. I actually reused one of fictional races from billions of years on the past in the form of a lone survivor and set her story as a clash between her own culture's legacy of aggression, imperialism and ruthlessness and Starfleet's legacy of peace and prosperity. And I can actually take that seriously! No giant novelty foam fingers, no "purple gang," no Dr. Silverback or Mr. Zombie, no knuckle-dragging male model... Awesome!

I've hunted for how to turn that off with little luck. If you could share the magic, I'd enjoy the visual element of the game play a lot more... and maybe get to focus more on whether I think the game is any good.
|
click it, scroll ALL the way down to the post processing section, underneath the bloom slider and its labeled "cartoon outline".
Anyways, idk CO was kinda cool when I first started playing it, but it's so shallow I hit my head when I dived in. And the game is taken less care of than CoH ever was. I know we joked about bugs and Soon (tm) in CoH, but we had it GOOD here.
Honestly, right now I'm just sticking to Spreadsheets In Space (tm) until that free trial runs out before I decide what I actually want to do.
