Those going or are in CO
At this point my money is riding on The Petition to save Coh, if that fails then I might Do Co since a lot of our people are heading there now, it will make me feel at home.

I was in ChO's beta and I liked the art style and the direction they were taking with combat, but any character I made that didn't have Regeneration felt a bit too fragile and weak. That problem became worse at launch, and I gave it a couple of months to get better, cancelling my sub when it did not.
The recent events with this game got me to reluctantly try out ChO again and I was quite surprised. If the game had been like this at launch I may have dropped CoH for it back then. I've got 6-7 months of sub there, currently. I just wish I could access their forums from work. |

Unfortunately, looking at the massive list of unfixed bugs, no one else at Cryptic seems to be working on CO...
An MMO closure is definitely not a joke, and I have no intention of making light of it. And it can be a tough and emotional thing for players to go through, speaking from personal experience. And I know that it's often much harder on the developers than on the publisher. However, I also know that it doesn't necessarily turn you into a sad, depressed sack of tears for the rest of your life. People can move past it, and heal.

Hunh. I thought objects disappearing when I picked them up was just because of my playing-it-through-Crossover-at-the-lowest-graphic-settings setup.
Nice to know it's not just me. Not so nice to know that they somehow let a gigantic noticeable bug like that remain in the game.

I tried CO ages ago. I enjoyed the costume creator and jumped in... and literally never made it out of the tutorial zone - I found it too confusing and had a mission objective that I could not resolve (literally, I could not find the objective to achieve it). Since I was only browsing, I uninstalled and moved on.
I broke down and started to play around with it yesterday. I figured, since I never really got into the game to give it a fair chance I should try again as a way to scratch my tights and cape itch.
Just as before, I found elements of the costume creator I like. It seemed way more limited than I remember though, and I got a little frustrated that the number of options for appearance was so limited at the initial screen.
Also the initial power selections are horribly tight... An ice tank or a beast tank, ranged fire/bow/gun, and a couple of others. So incredibly limited. First impressions are huge, why would they cut off the initial creator like that? It seems counter productive.
I never got into the tutorial to try that over again... but I will sometime this week.
Suffice to say, my expectations remain kind of low.

The costume creation limitation only lasts until level 10, they added it for "streamlining", and while the silver players got limited archetypes, they can buy gold archetype or freeform slots (the both of them are free to gold players/subscribers.

The fact is as a user getting exposed to what should be (as I understand it for CO as it has been with CoH) a powerful selling point for the game - the initial character creation - it feels lobotimized and was unnecessarily unappealing. Compounded with zero mention of "more to come as you gain experience'. Just... poor implementation.
I'm dabbling in CO and actively trying to like it.
Details are on my blog, for anyone interested.
Reader's Digest version:
It simply isn't a very good game, but it's a thousand times better than DCUO so I'm sticking with it for now.
The Nethergoat Archive: all my memories, all my characters, all my thoughts on CoH...eventually.
My City Was Gone
When CoH finally sunsets I'm going to Champions.
My tag there and STO is @Zero.

But... I can't log on with them. Something about them being "Gold," and I guess I'm "Silver," but I don't know what that means. I'm guessing it's me being a Free player now Vs. paying at the time I made those, but I don't know if there is anything to do about that.
So, I started a new guy. Like Chyll, I was put off by the absurd limitations in costumes and power types. Also like Chyll, I thought the intro, which is supposed to be explaining everything, didn't do much of anything. And that map is the worst I've ever seen.
I already put in the 3 hours today it took to download the client and patch it up, so I'll give it another shot at some point... But my 10 minute dabbling only served to remind me why I gave the game less than a month back at its release in 2009.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
I had an account during the game's first month. Looking at the character screen, looks like I made two really cool looking dudes and got them to level 6.

I'm over there too. @clcmercy.
Graphics are shiny, but....I don't like the art style at all. The cars. DEAR GOD, the cars that ride around. The avatars...they look so shiny, so....full of potential...and then..BAM. Those disproportionate arms/hands/legs. Much tweaking is needed in the costume editor to get it back to normal...and you're STILL stuck with the same face as everone else.
Yeah, it's buggy. Been playing it for a couple weeks now and found at least three "TF's" (CO's version of task forces are called...ummm...I forget.) that were bugged so badly they could not be finished. Even by teams. And the impression I got from the forum boards was that they have been like that for a while now.
So....don't like the graphics, don't like the buggy....but...DCUO is right out. I can stand that game even less than CO. Splitting my time between CO and The Secret World at the moment. Crafting and gear is a bit esoteric in TSW, but it's not that hard to figure out. Plus, it's getting back on track with support, development and content releases. Seems promising. Currently play on Arcadia server, one of the two RP servers there. Leviathan is the other. There's no "global" handles in TSW as far as I can tell, either.
For 50 dollars per slot, that is not an option for anyone with any sanity.

I have no idea what they were thinking with that $50 price tag.
yea in CO it's just better to go ahead and pay the subscription. Even though it seemed to have more build options than a fresh player free for play COX player.

Went back myself and made a new character. Kept my account going so i have most of the stuff and had been dablling in champions online still. Tutorial is better now, although maybe too light in telling a newbie what to do but it was ok. Having fun with it then ran into Blacktalon, and defender helpfully agroed the rest of the room. Guess he cames from the fuisionette school of npcs's. Anyway, after a few face plants i thought man that would be a turn off for anyone trying the game. I know that a i suck and he's supposed to be a challenge but spanking people in the tuturial won't encourage them into thinking the game is for them. Was tempted to log and start over if my power choices were that bad. And the one face!
How? A Silver CO player has about a dozen preset builds to choose from, that you can only deviate from on certain levels. A free CoH player can make thousands of different builds.

CO have ten off the bat. Behemoth, the blade, the glacier, grimoire, the inferno, marksman, the mind, radiant, soldier, and the unleashed.

Thousand builds? Thought COH only had about 12 builds total. And 8 was available to free to play off the bat. Blaster, tanker, stalker, scrapper, corruptor, defender, dominator, and brute.

yeah nothing like smashing an enemy with a near by semi truck. Or buying a jet thingy and raining all types of hell down on them.
