See.. THIS THREAD is a perfect example of what makes this all so sad. I've never encountered an MMO where the staff and players were so close and part of a community as a whole like CoH, and that's sad because it's not like the devs and staff are doing anything extraordinary, they're just being good people. No matter how upset people are by this, they at least know in the back of their head that the staff left on the game will keep going for the players until the very end.

And.. *sniff* that's just too beautiful to lose and be thrown to the wolves of the rest of the MMO world.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Agreed 110%. The official announcement should have had the server shutdown date, what happens to prepaid time etc all detailed out before being posted.

Can someone please explain to me how it takes a week for a multimillion dollar publisher of online games a solid week (and counting) to communicate the reason for shutting down CoH?

They OWE us that much, at the very least, no matter who is responsible. I'm not talking about a "because of refocusing of company goals, there's the door, goodbye" either. I want a REAL reason.

They have too.. I mean..

I mean, like... how does someone even get a job for any reputable business without understanding something called customer loyalty?

How..?

I've never seen this type of practice from any business in my lifetime, ever.

This honestly cant be because NCSoft hopes to shut down something not profitable.. because if it was that would mean they expect us to go to one of their alternative games.. which makes absolutely zero sense.

Do they really expect us to be happy with their company after pulling the rug out from every bodies feet?

I refuse to believe there are people in formal suits, working at NCSoft who could think this is acceptable business behavior.

At least still.. but as these days go on I'm starting to think otherwise.

The only other logical reason seems to be that maybe they don't want to utter another peep until they find a real solution to satisfying us all, meaning, finding a way to keep the game running.

I'm more inclined to believe its a licensing issue that was out of their hands and they simply don't want to look bad until they have a real solution or negotiate on our behalf behind the scenes.

And Zwill, you are the best community manager I've ever seen. Thank you.

You're awesome. My yearly sub renews October 10th, and I would gladly pay for the extra 50 days until shutdown if I could (if that's what happens).

It was quite upsetting to think that, after always having VIP status here on the forums and in-game, it would be taken away suddenly just when all of us need it most.

Thanks again for your time and dedication. We do notice and appreciate it.

Licensing issue has been debunked on both sides.

There are some players that have said this is how it always happens, but to my knowledge this is almost never how it happens. This aspect of the shutdown has me a little puzzled, and significantly more ... perturbed.

You might want to tell whoever is listening that there are a lot of us with 6+ months of subscription on our account(s). What is happening with those accounts should have been a part of the closure announcement. I'm surprised that the legal department at NCsoft isn't having a hissy-fit over the way this has been botched. If they aren't, then they aren't doing their job(s).

Please note: I don't want a credit for another NCsoft game. I want my money back. In my eyes, NCsoft is in breach of the contract between them and myself. At this point, they owe me a refund of my remaining time or it does rise to the level of knowingly taking my money without intent to provide service.

Thanks Zwil for still being there - suspect the reason why this hasnt been sorted is because itw was a suddenden decision so is nice to know that people are still thinking

The NCSoft site still has an Upgrade to VIP button on, that when pressed takes you to the store that says there is an unspecified error. The CoH section of the store just has the create a free account option in there now. There is nothing in the Twitter news feed or the latest news regarding CoH.

It's fairly shoddy, really. Especially a week on.

For me personally, I just want access to by solo SG base. I'm non-VIP, meaning I can't pay rent, and therefore can't get into it...

I hope there is an update, I've been a subscriber since 2005, after unexpected change of credit card this year I neglected to update my billing and was unsubbed the end of July, thinking I could resub before next content release - now I've no VIP, no incarnate. I contacted NCSOFT support to see if I could resub for the remainder of the games life and was directed to the website (where obviously I cannot resub).

I'm still sticking with the game until the end, but I think it'd be nice if people could access all the content whilst the game is still up (and for those who subbed for longer some kind of refund must be in order - heck if they are tight for money, take the money from people like me wanting to sub for the remaining time!)

According to the live stream on Wednesday, "granting VIP access for all" is among the many things the Development team is currently trying to negotiate. No promises though.

Why do i have the most irrational feeling that in the unlikely event that NCSOFT will continue running the game, The apology will be something along the lines of



"We were just kidding, We weren't going to shut the game down, -We apologies for the inconvenience involved."


And why do i get the suspicion if that happens I'll need to go to the hospital for a broken hand and will have to buy a new computer monitor.

You should upgrade to LED. They're much softer than CRTs.
