  1. It used to be on there a few days ago, and since they are no longer supporting the game it makes sense to remove it.. it actually irritated me when I still saw it listed that it was STILL in the list. Why should they be able to capitalize on the gains of something they're no longer supporting? Besides, if CoH ever fell into anyone else's hands things like this have to be done anyways.
  2. I don't know what they do on maintenance days but I would guess backing up stuff.. so maybe it's a good thing they're not, since if CoH was ever brought back, the most likely scenario would be restoring the servers to the day prior to the announcement.
  3. I think this just adds to the mystery really. If all the rumors about pulling out of the NA and European markets are false (assuming the CEO's comments were true), and their focus on F2P (CoH went F2P/microtransaction based) then the question about CoH is still kind of up in the air.

It cant be about broadband speed because CoH doesn't use a lot of bandwidth compared to current games (I would like to think anyways).. so if they're staying in NA and will continue to invest.. then what? Maybe they're just slimming down their portfolio?

I guess the only question is if they can be convinced to release the IP still. If CoH is one of the few "American" IP's they have something tells me it wont be easy to get it from them, they may just try and make a CoH2 in the future if they feel none of their Asian IP's are doing good here.

He also says "So, now that we've got our back end in much better position than it was a quarter or two ago, we've trimmed back the marketing
funnel, and we feel like we're in better shape there."

and I think that's where the disconnect is.. they don't understand how important advertising and marketing is in America. I've never seen any advertising for CoH outside of a few gaming websites. I would have never heard about it if not for a friend many years ago.
  4. There will be a place set up specifically for that, with polls and numbers showing who is going where, and you'll be able to look up your old friends.

It's still under development, but bookmark http://www.cityofheroesveterans.com/ and check back in November if that happens to be the case!
  5. Can someone please explain to me how it takes a week for a multimillion dollar publisher of online games a solid week (and counting) to communicate the reason for shutting down CoH?

They OWE us that much, at the very least, no matter who is responsible. I'm not talking about a "because of refocusing of company goals, there's the door, goodbye" either. I want a REAL reason.

    They have too.. I mean..

I mean, like... how does someone even get a job for any reputable business without understanding something called customer loyalty?

    How..?

I've never seen this type of practice from any business in my lifetime, ever.

This honestly cant be because NCSoft hopes to shut down something not profitable.. because if it was that would mean they expect us to go to one of their alternative games.. which makes absolutely zero sense.

Do they really expect us to be happy with their company after pulling the rug out from every bodies feet?

I refuse to believe there are people in formal suits, working at NCSoft who could think this is acceptable business behavior.

At least still.. but as these days go on I'm starting to think otherwise.

The only other logical reason seems to be that maybe they don't want to utter another peep until they find a real solution to satisfying us all, meaning, finding a way to keep the game running.

I'm more inclined to believe its a licensing issue that was out of their hands and they simply don't want to look bad until they have a real solution or negotiate on our behalf behind the scenes.

And Zwill, you are the best community manager I've ever seen. Thank you.
  6. I sent mine.

If anyone ever was successful in picking it up, they could easily reinstate the database the morning of the last server save before the closing announcement and keep all previous player's data intact.

    I posted a link @ http://www.cityofheroesveterans.com/

  8. Some of you might have heard of http://www.cityofheroesveterans.com/

While I plan to separate all of the server communities collectively, for virtue (and anyone else really), I wanted to create something to immortalize the memory of what you created for the rest of us to enjoy.

In addition to the standard character details panel about any characters you will be able to register to your account there, I was thinking of a way to allow you an additional "attachment" about your character to tie up any loose ends in CoX.

This could be a short story explaining what your character did in their final days, and/or (your choice, both would be awesome!) what they WOULD have done if you quit the game and wrote about what the rest of their lives were like.

I enjoyed every minute I spent roleplaying with everyone, and each character I've had the chance to meet will never be forgotten.

I would enjoy reading them, as I think a lot of people would, so please, bookmark the site and check back on it in a few months.

I am currently attending full time courses starting this week, and this project couldn't have come at a worse time, but I'll spend every minute of free time I've got to get this going for everyone.

Has it been requested? Prob will not get it since they want to limit it to VIPs only. and opening it to IRC would allow others in there that could abuse the system. Still would be interesting to keep the community always going even when offline... lol

This is something I was thinking of integrating for http://www.cityofheroesveterans.com/, so be sure to bookmark it and check it out in a few months!
  10. "That's all there is, there isn't any more..."

~Ethel Barrymore's curtain call line, designed to send insistently worshipful audiences on their way.

As heart breaking as it is, its a comforting quote.

I feel saddened, and too sick to my stomach to play, like the rest of you. I want to do the things I never got to do, but there simply isn't time for that.

At most, I would have loved at least one more great year. It's never easy saying goodbye.

I did the best I could but I still tear up at the thought of losing one of the greatest communities of people I've ever been given the honor of being a part of.

I registered http://www.cityofheroesveterans.com and did what I could for today. It's going to be my last and most painful project involving this game, but I don't want folks to loose contact with each other.

NCSoft, should, at the very least, keep the domain and forums up here for a few years to let people organize and find a new home
  11. I would like that, shoot me an email (listed on the website)
