Not Goodbye
The only graphic glitch I ever bothered to take a screenshot of in order to report the bug was an NPC spawn in Port Oakes. I'm pretty sure I still can't post the pic in the open forum.
There is a spot near the movie theater bythe arena where an NPC is squatting, smoking a cigarette, leaning against the wall. Right after one of the issues (8 or 9 I think) the gender filter got taken off that spawn point. When I ran past it was the female skin in the black miniskirt in that spot. I don't know about now, but back then NPC's didn't wear underwear.
I sent the pic to War Witch with a question about the game's teen rating, and she sent back a PM that started with "ACK!"
My first short story (detective fiction) came out in Jan-2012. Other stories and books to follow, I hope. Because of "real writing". COH was a big part of that happening.
I, too, have to nominate the Gauntlet AoE bug as the most memorable of the bugs I ever encountered. I can't tell you how many times I killed my Inv/EM Tanker in the back of Crey's Folly, herding Freakshow into cargo containers or around corners and blasting all of us into oblivion.
Anyone remember how often stuff like Spectral Daemon Lords and things like that used to get stuck in the map geometry and you'd have to petition to get them unstuck? God, so many Positron (original) TFs were hosed up by that. Whoever all finally (a) made mobs do that far less and (b) gave them AI that usually works its way free when they do get stuck deserves a medal.

Let me guess, the actual number of repetitions per second is closer to 7.576 times per second. In other words, Arcanatime. Right?
|
Its actually approximately 8.7 times per second or about one tick every 115 milliseconds. Almost exactly one tick every 3.5 animation clocks.
Which means even after I figured out Arcanatime, I was still left with the mystery of how this worked. I never did figure that out. That will go down as one of the unsolved mysteries of the game unless a programmer wants to shed some light on that one, which will be hard without access to the code.

One of my favorite bugs was when I finally ran a BAF trial on a character with Surveillance, and discovered that the Warmth of Prometheus was buffing the enemies as well as the players. I don't know if that was ever fixed.

Does anyone remember when they just "forgot" to include a wall of the dock in Talos? Like a HUGE section of it by the PI ferry. Oh and I'm pretty sure there're still holes in the trees in Eden that you can get to just by jumping at them a few times. I used to have my toons go sit on the geometry outside of of the War Walls to sulk, back in the day.

Heh, reminds me of my SG profile image... (taken after spending weeks getting Isolator in RV).

After that long living in a train station in Recluse Victory without a shower, that badge was probably highly descriptive.

Not exactly a CoH bug, but did anyone happen to see the NCSoft website I think it was Sunday night? I went to see if CoH was still up there under 'Products' and both Aion and Lineage II were removed as NCSoft products. It was pretty quickly fixed. Makes you wonder...............

A bug I used to take advantage off was to adjust the camera just in the right angle on an indoor map, to have the entire map vanish and see just floors and blackness. I also was able to see the location of every single glowie and enemy.
Was still possible recently, but not reliable because the camera somehow learned to snap back in fast. With all the changes to things like map marker after every enemy was dead, though, it was rarely something I cared to exploit in the last couple years. When the game was full of timed missions that required me to find a glowie though that bug was extremely valuable. |
It was actually pretty useful, cause I'd be like, "Hold up, don't open that door. There's like 25 enemies back there."
I recall the door into the Midnight Squad headquarters being bugged for a while, too - this happened to me a few times:
|
Funny thing is, the bottom of the map also had statues and such.
Oh, I forgot - this is what Black Wolf Pet looks like at medium graphics settings for me:

Well I've been playing this game for far to long never actually dropped my sub until the game went F2P but even then I came back and paid in spurts.
My favorite bug that happened I don't remember the exact mission I was on but it was one of those ones you enter from a train. I entered it on a hero, and ended up in a completely different mission that was owned by a villain on the same server. This was before villians and heros really interacted aside from the couple pvp zones and pocket D. The other player saw me I saw him. We were attack-able, but with none of the standard pvp balancing stuff done. Me being on a tank I just kind of stood there while the villain just kind spent a while trying to kill me before giving up and continuing on. I followed her around a bit before going back and exiting the mission. I always kind of hopped that the bug would happen again sometime, but it never did.
When Cimerora first hit beta, Babs showed uo...as a BUSH. When a claws character made the remark that he was going to 'trim' the talking bush, Babs yelled 'eeek' and jumped up on the head of this npc. It's one of my favorite shot/moments in the game!
