It absolutely has to be Joker. And it's not so much coming out of the closet as finally admitting what everybody else already knew.

How many times has Harley been playing extra sexy for Joker, and he acts as if she isn't even there or is annoying?

Not even one drop of heterosexuality in that mans blood.

I for one (as a member of said community) totally recognize it as a publicity stunt... But then I'm not really a follower of comics either, so don't particularly care anyhow.

But yes, sadly it'll still likely* be hailed as some sort of big step blah blah blah equality, blah blah blah, because let's face it... you take what you can get.

just wondering, is there a bit of hypocricy here, that is there announcing this, and yet on the other hand they retconed a number of formerly strong female characters into sex dolls, i.e. Starfire.

people aren't gay for any particular reason, it doesn't enrich or diminish from their character, they just are so I'm ok with any dc character coming out but if they want to do this right they have to do it right. There are so many ways for it to go wrong.

As a gay guy, I find this mildly (only mildly) insulting. Not all gay guys are shallow, narrow minded camp people that the media make an effort to focus on. In fact the majority of the gay community are intelligent enough to understand a blatent attempt to increase sales when we see it.

It wont be too much of a problem if they handle it properly. If the superhero is a superhero who just happens to be gay, then it will be ok. If hes a gay man who happens to be a superhero, then there might be problems.

Personally, I dont see it as being a villain, like Lex or Joker. There are too many bad connotations with that (ie gay people are the bad guys). It will be a hero. Maybe Green Lantern, Booster or Blue Beetle.

Heh, I always just find the "publicity stunt" complaint amusing. It's a business, of course it is a publicity stunt. Pretty much everything they do is a publicity stunt. Heck, writing good stories or having good art is a publicity stunt. They will do whatever they think best to sell books and make money... It is what a business does.

Would the world be a perfect place is businesses were all about the integrity of their art (or craft or whatever their product was) and not concerned about the bottom line? Yeah, sure... And it would be great if my farts smelled like roses. Still, ain't going to happen.

*shrug* I just never "buy into" the complaints or publicity stunt or selling out or such because... Well yeah. Obviously.


ANYWAY, as to who it will be...

My guess is they will stay away from villains for this "big announcement" outing as it may rub some advocates the wrong way... Even if just cause advocates like to make noise and have their own publicity stunts so denouncing DC for saying homosexuality is villainous would get them a lot of play.

My guess? Blue Devil. Once had his own book so they can claim he is prominent but yet fringe enough that I don't see any outrage over it being him.

Saying that, theres Dominatrix, which is very much an 'adult' term.

Also this game is rated 'T' for Teen, if I remember right. Maybe adding a little more teenage relevant content is in order. Nothing massive of course. Just make an NPC comment that he had a difficult life as a child due to his skin colour, or that some guys boyfriend has been kidnapped. The game already feature drugs heavily, what with the Freakshow taking it, and the Trolls openly selling it on the street.

If a character was going to be gay, id say Valkyrie, Positron or Captain Mako. A couple of my characters are also gay.

I could see Lex Luthor. He's fairly detached and manipulative when it comes to his GFs (from what I've seen).
