DC plans to out a prominent character

I had to look that one up: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, and asexual.

If you're going to do that, just go with Queer, I say. Or, my favorite euphemism from the 70s-80s: sexual minorities.

That is something my brother and I have talked about . He is gay and he does not get cpmics book - never has.He has said why all the gays in comic books when he knows no one that is gay that reads them now. Maybe when they were younger but not as adult men. He laughs at me and my obssesion about them.

that's silly, i know plenty of gay guys and lessies that love comicbooks, and i went to a very large university and they were from all sorts of places/backgrounds.



also, i prefer the term queer but it has a lot of history and stigma behind it, and some folks just arent comfortable with it, which is understandable.

New York State, seeing as how it's legal for gay and lesbian couples to wed there and it was mentioned in the Rolling Stone article.

Doesn't Marauders girlfriend Cleopatra kinda swing both ways. I've spoken to her on female toons and got a pretty strong lesbian/Bi vibe from the dialog. But then I am bringing her candy and flowers :P

Where I "get" comics and even like the medium, I just find that their storylines tend to be ridiculously convoluted and overly complicated. They tend to become far too soap opera-y for me to care what's going on for very long.

CoH has a fairly healthy LGBT population (certainly the largest I've ever been a part of in an MMO). If that's anything to go on, then there's plenty of gays and lesbians interested in comics (even if some of use aren't). I can appreciate that other people like them, they've just never 'clicked' very well for me.

I'm more inclined to write things like that off as simply being written with a male recipient in mind (given that that majority of the story line in the game was written by men).

It may not happen in a state, Northstar's Canadian and Canada legalized gay marriage back in 2005.

I don't really care about this because I consider it overly controversial or anything but it really does seem like an "obvious publicity stunt" when you consider the announcement President Obama made recently about same-sex marriages. One has to ask would DC have made this decision right "now" if Obama hadn't said what he said just last week?

Pretty much what I just wrote up there. It's a publicity stunt because they're making someone "prominently" gay, whatever that's supposed to mean. Highly implies they're gonna drag this up with glitter rather than just going, 'X is gay' and leaving it at that.

I prefer writing it as 'QILTBAG', so you can refer to the whole group as 'Quiltbag'.

(I can make fun. No, I'm not going to tell you why I'm allowed to.)

As for the DC publicity stunt, I have a sinking feeling that they're going to screw it up badly. Speculators are noting that they never said the gay character would be a hero, so attention is focusing on villains that haven't appeared in the New 52 yet, like Ra's Al Ghul. But will the Quiltbag community be happy if the only prominent gay character in DC is a villain? I doubt it.

This is a fiasco waiting to happen. Which might be DC's intention -- bad publicity can sell comics as well as good publicity, sometimes.

Honestly I think that simply doing it with an established character is what the fuss is about.

Introducing a new character who happens to be gay is old news these days and wouldn't have gotten a second look, but that's not what they're doing (despite having said that was what they were going to do instead).

They're messing with established characters, and we all know how us nerds get about companies changing stuff on us.

I actually gave some serious consideration to this, but I just can't see anyone over at DC with balls big enough to do it.

While an interesting idea, it can be ruled out: Guy has appeared in the new 52 already, so he's not the one. (according to the information already released)

Has Killowog appeared yet in the New 52? How about Mogo?

Kilowog has appeared, and since it looks like somehow "Blackest Night" is in-continuity, I assume Mogo is still destroyed.

I love the concept of gay Mogo though.
