A rather large percentage of self-identified gay men have had heterosexual encounters in their youth.
I first read that as 'exploded' their other side.

1) Yes. Yes it does appear so.

2) No. That seems to be a different nondescript superhero with a dark colored cowl and flowing cape. He has funky lil bracer-bits and doesn't have a high collar.

i really hope this is how it's written. he could have kids and they're just still young and he's only recently come to terms. would be a great new angle.

i love Obsidian and Jade. also why decide on making the father gay of an already gay character, potentially erasing the older one. thanks DC, that's not the best idea.

lol

Obsidian is my one of my favorite lgbt-etc. characters ever.

The guy who left in the ambulance is Doctor Mid-Nite. The guy who stuck around, as others have mentioned, is Obsidian.

This boggles the mind- why not just introduce Obsidian as the new gay character? It sadly reinforces my belief this is for publicity only.

Why am I all of a sudden getting extremely pissed off at this?

Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.

Because deep down you know that they should just make a new character that is gay...but instead they took the easy way out.

After thinking about it a bit more, probably more than I should have Iv'e sorted this:

Some of us suffer greatly for being who we are. Some of us are disowned, locked away, and even to the extremes; pay the ultimate price for being who/what we are.

We lose family friends and even life in extremes.

and now, -it seems- as if DC is trying to cash in on that as if its some form of novelty?

I dunno, am I seeing too much here? Am I looking too hard? Taking it too seriously?

Or do I have a point?

You looking into it way to much. Really what it is, is them trying to cash in on the craze of groups saying such things as "Why aren't these group of people making up half the superheroes?" "Why are these characters dressed this way?"

When they should be asking "If we had it that way, would you start buying it?"

Which of course the answer is "No."

I read bleeding cold post and it seems highly speculative. Just wait and see. If done well i can accept any character te be gay. If done poorly i will have problems with it.

Everybody is picking up on this. So it is now absolutely guaranteed that it won't be Alan Scott. After all, we saw what happened when it was leaked that Captain Atom was Monarch.

I still haven't forgiven DC for that travesty.

No, that's Wonder Woman you're thinking of.

So he just doesn't have his kids then? Poor Jade and Obsidian never to be born just so DC can have it's publicity stunt.

Indeed.

It also seems rather (entirely) counterproductive to turn one character gay, at the expense of an already established gay character.

Edit: Eh, so reading the article it seems like they had decided there wouldn't be a Jade or Obsidian first, then decided to make Alan Scott gay instead. Meh still seems like a dumb move.
