Maybe Tony could go to an A.A. meeting and Hasselhoff would be there.

Also I am now picturing Iron Man's movie armor with J.A.R.V.I.S voice damaged or replaced and now sounds like KITT......

Lets hope not. There is a good reason it got canceled and the movie flopped.

It was cancelled due to Fox being shortsighted and the movie was more for fans then non-fans.

Also in some areas, those words of yours would be fighting words amongst the Browncoats.

Such a reason does not exist, sir.

Once upon a time I was a comicbook/sci-fi convention. There were many Browncoats gathered all around talking about the show and Serenity.

Then along came a soul that saw them and yelled "Firefly sucked!"

Suddenly the soul found himself surrounded by Browncoats.

The converged all around him and closed in on him.

The poor soul was never seen again.

I've never heard shortsighted idiocy and lousy taste characterized as a "good reason" before.

Wondering how much of an impact the previous Iron Man/Thor/Hulk/CA movies in the recent past had on the Avengers' box office numbers. If Marvel had made the decision to simply make an Avengers movie first, and then spin off separate movies, like they did with X-Men, would the hype have been this high?

The Avengers script would have looked a lot different, and possibly have suffered from too much backstory for so many characters before it really got going. Might have had to make two movies at least just to tell the story they've told so far between all the individual movies.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

I've heard it used it to describe Firefly and Serenity though - and going by the ones I've met, it also seems to apply to the Brownshirts too, and theeir "it's the next Star Wars, man!" drivel - if they'd just added "Holiday Special" to the claim, it would have been a lot more accurate.

Those people must have been idiots (every fandom has them), because Firefly was waaay better than Star Wars.

Let me put it this way: I went to see Avengers despite the Thor movie. But yeah, I think it's good that they didn't have to spend time to establish each member's backstory first.

I think one of the things Avengers has going for it is it has no need to tell an origin story (ok, so there is a bit of Black Widow origin story in there, but that's only 2 minutes). That means they could just get straight on with the action.

Oh, and the Serenity movie? That's better than any Star Wars movie apart from episodes IV and V. But a lot of adults originally got into Star Wars because they took their kids (same with Avengers). Serenity was way to grown-up to do well on the mass market. Although now would be a good time for a DVD re-release, with Whedon's name in bigger letters. Never know, we may get more now.

I really should do something about this signature.

I liked Firefly, but I don't think I'd place it above the original Star Wars trilogy. I think the series could've gone on to be extraordinary had it been given a proper chance, but the movie just wasn't great. As it stands, I prefer Farscape.

More on topic: The Avengers movie was awesome. It started out good and it just kept upping the ante. Even the scene after the fancy pre-credits credits kicked it up a notch.

I'm pretty sure movies like The Godfather trilogy and Schindler's List count as reasonably "grown up", and they managed to do well at the box office.

The Avengers shows that Whedon is much better working with established material, rather than his own vanity projects.

But a lot of people are under the delusion that escapist science fiction and fantasy are for children, and don't go through the doors and discover they enjoy it without them.

Rubbish.

Serenity is a way better movie than Avengers. Even the critics liked it. It's only difficulty was getting people though the doors in the first place.

(My wife also found some of the accents difficult to understand).

I think you're way off the mark with that statement. Truth is we were already sold on those characters. We would have gone to see it and the movie would have done well even if Mr. Whedon wasn't at the helm. Joss just made sure we didn't pay for something that sucked.

As for his own work, I think he takes a little more care (but not by a huge margin) to produce quality stories from the ground up. His characters have a little more depth and are more relatable. His stories tend to be more clever and the plot twists send me reeling for days. Maybe his own creations don't sell as well but they also don't have the advantage of being embedded in our culture for decades the way Marvel's comic book characters have.

There was one fan shoutout in the way Phil bought it (possibly), though I for one am surprised Thor wasn't nicknamed "Captain Hammer".

As for sneaking in the rest of the Whedonverse, I would *love* an Avengers Auditions scene next film as SHIELD try and sign up as many heroes as possible. Like this scene with Felicia Day:

"So, your resume includes defeating Dr.Doom, MODOK, and Thanos? Impressive."
"Yes. Got signed references and a LinkedIn recc from Uatu himself to prove it."
"And what exactly is your power?"
*sudden chittering*
"...oh god."

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
