Paragon Market Releases (WHY U NO STAFF?)
Well there was the whole thing Z mentioned about not wanting to release another melee powerset first. I mean, the purchased powersets have been, what?
1. Beam Rifle (Freedom launch?) 2. Street Justice 3. Titan Weapons 4. ??? So if Staff had been #4 instead of Beast Mastery, then we would have gotten an entirely different kind of whining (Y U MELLE ONLY?!) Would it have been as bad as this? Who knows. |

total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
My main problem was vanity pets were released on top of each other but not powers. :|

Even though Ligers exist in real life it's plainly obvious that the visual appearance of the one we got in this game is copied almost exactly from the one that Napoleon Dynamite drew in the movie of the same name. Your ignorance of that doesn't make this point irrelevant in the least.

Lol poor Zw. It's like one minute the posters are all buddy buddy then the next they're practically lashing out at his throat. But he takes it and stays polite about it, but he's secretly listening to this (well, that's one track from his playlist) when he's replying.
Perspective #1: VIP beta is a privilege, not a a right. That you get to playtest content before it's released does not put one in the position to demand or expect that content's release schedule. With the privilege that comes with VIP beta, one also accepts that release schedule be it forced release or delays. And this is the very reason set schedules are not the norm.
Perspective #2: It *is* a money grab to release costume pieces and powersets back to back weeks on end. Players have already complained how many of the power and costume sets have been pay-for even with some of the VIP-only releases. You either want paragon studios to release *ALL* powersets as pay-for sets and *ALL* costume sets every week or you want *SOME* powersets to be pay-for sets and *SOME* costume sets be pay-for sets with some free ones sprinkled in.
Perspective #3: You're selfish and gluttons. Staff isn't released now, so time to flame? What about the complainers whining about how so many of the new sets are melee sets? Who gives a crap if it's ready now, if *SOMEONE* didn't hold you back from engorging on melee, you wouldn't have anything released for months and then you'd be whining about that (or worse, try to use that as an argument for releasing more content "You guys haven't released a melee set in over 5 months! Controllers got x set and MM got y but now...")
Perspective #4: You have *NO* idea! You don't know what the release schedule for the next powerset is, could be several months before we get any new powers or even the next issue release. Releasing all the new sets *NOW* leaves an undetermined gap which only gives you more fuel to b*tch about and we can't have that. So not only do you have no idea if we'll get anything new of worth for you, but no idea how high to the heavens you'd complain if you were in danger of waiting that long...because their Marketing department already though of it and planned ahead. Yup, those marketing ***hats outsmarted us. Effing shame, really.
Your weekly reality check was brought to you by, Leo_G, because Leo's got a lion now and you don't.

And it's pretty much just Paragon playing catch up with the competition. I mean just go check out schmeverkwist zwei and see how much vanity junk they have. Junk for houses, junk for pets, junk for clothes (which btw are waaaay pricier than anything paragon offers).
Really, you have to have a lot of respect for Zwillinger. Anyone that has to deal with children day to day and not murder them has the patience of a saint.
When Staff Melee first hit beta, there was a guy in one of the Global Channels I frequent that spent over half a day raging about how the devs had missed the boat by wasting their resources on making Staff a melee set, instead of making it a blast set. He wanted magic staves and/or Goa'uld staff weapons. He also seemed to be of the impression that since staves were now melee weapons, there was no chance that the devs would ever make the "Staff Blast" set he wanted, because there was no way that they would ever use one weapon in two different powersets, like they did with Archery, Trick Arrow, and Ninjas.

Z is a professional he knows not to take these things personally since they are in fact directed at the company he works for not him.
I am more than sure he finds it amusing that he has a personal cheerleading squad here in the forums, ready to send him love after they try to make him the issue and victim knowing it is about Paragon instead.

I also agree that Staff Melee was ready to go before BM was even put pack on the beta server. I tested it at the low, mid, and end level game, and left loads of feed back. As far as anyone one who was testing was concerned it was ready to go, with the exception of maybe sound. Oh, there was also an animation issue with AS out of hide.
Compare that to the feedback in the BM thread. Yeah......
Like many have said, this is their sand box that we are playing in. However we buy the sand for them. As customers we always have the right to complain, I am not going to go so far as to say we are correct, but we still have that right. Shoot, I am even willing to admit that a large portion of my complaints are irrational as of late.
I also want to agree with many others. If you post a schedule of what is going to be released, a lot of this angst could be avoided.

Eh, to be honest, Z, I'm mostly upset because this is my spring break and I was hoping to play with staff melee during it.
I must admit, I'm actually amused that the liger pet from April Fool's turned out to be real.
Now can we get a purchasable Jarate temp power? I'm sure Valve would LOVE to do a cross promotional with CoH!

r/e this thread:
I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the whining in these parts, but clearly the blessed mists of forgetfulness had obscured my recollection.
Wow!
I'm tempted to pull my grizzled veteran card and note how rare and amazing such a substantive redname reply to a release date kerfuffle is...instead I'll just state my admiration for Zwillinger's diligence and levelheadedness while leaving the irrationals to wail and tear their garments.

Personally, I want to thank Zwil for this thread. We had called for a REDNAME response, and we got one. Thank you Zwil. I, for one wasn't expecting staff to release this week, but I do understand the frustration that people are feeling over this. It is especially understandable given the apparent unreadiness of BM. Personally I think that the new dark powers would have been enough of a break in melee sets to allow for staff to be released ahead of BM. The apparent rush of BM from introduction thru to live does make me wonder if maybe one devs ideas get more attention/preference than some of the others?
As for the release schedule idea, I like the monthly producer's letter that we got last month. Not giving exact release dates, but a general idea of what is coming for the month. Word-of-mouth in game propagation would be more than enough to get the information to non-forum users.
I like this one. =D
It's no win for Paragon- don't release it, everybody whines about not getting it, release it too soon, everybody whines about how "greedy" they are. Hopefully it'll be so good everyone will forget their grievances and just have fun whacking baddies when it does finally arrive. |
But what's more important to me is that now we know that this game has no problem copying creatures from movie sources I think it's high-time they get around to giving us a "Killer Rabbit" pet from Monty Python's The Holy Grail.

What a lively morning!
We're extremely happy and flattered that so very few of you are so excited for Trick Arrow/Archery. While I know many of you are upset that quivers are not released now, we also have to be responsible with the cadence of releases on the Paragon Market. What do I mean by that?
Again, we're extremely flattered and grateful for the excitement being shown about Trick Arrow/Archery . Take comfort in the fact that your arrow grabbing itch should be scratched Very Soon. |
