It's no win for Paragon- don't release it, everybody whines about not getting it,
release it too soon, everybody whines about how "greedy" they are.

Hopefully it'll be so good everyone will forget their grievances and just have fun whacking baddies when it does finally arrive.

Where is the Like button?

I like Zwill addressing this.

I like Zwill taking our concerns to the PTB.

I like Zwill dealing with our cranky members (myself included).

If our game had skills he would have gained points in calming a mob.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Well it's a one-shot range weapon...

At least with the retro pack, they have the excuse that's it's still in development. Staff Fighting has been finished for months. Beast Mastery came and went in less time that Staff Fighting has been on test, mainly because of the devs massive woody over all things with 4 legs.

@FloatingFatMan

Do not go gentle into that good night.

He also seemed to be of the impression that since staves were now melee weapons, there was no chance that the devs would ever make the "Staff Blast" set he wanted, because there was no way that they would ever use one weapon in two different powersets, like they did with Archery, Trick Arrow, and Ninjas.
A "staff blast" powerset could be something as straightforward as a re-skinned Assault Rifle powerset with energy/magical effects. I see absolutely no reason why the Staff Fighting melee set would preclude a possible Staff Blast set.

I have an idea for a new costume part: Quiver of Staffs, in the new Titan Back slot.

Maybe. Then again I suspect in a few months when both Staff Fighting and the Retro Sci-Fi pack are released most people will forget most of this current "angst" regardless. *shrugs*

Those are two completely not equal situations since Staff has been on BETA for months. They level bumped people to 50 to test end game builds vs the New Dark Astoria incarnate level end game content in January. This is before BM was put back on the server in a condition ready for BETA testing.

They then released BM before Staff and before it was ready with problems acknowledged by a red letter AND it broke the pet AI for all the pets in the game. In terms of Staff they either say nothing or tease and tease and tease Soon ™....Very Soon ™....Very Very Soon ™. That is NOT what should be done with a set they know is highly anticipated above all others released in the interim, and was end game testing in January with end game builds. That is whack.

So, it is not the wait alone people are upset about is a bunch of legitimate complaints that have added up to the point where Z had to make this thread to address directly.

Nobody needs to quit, nobody needs to call for heads or jobs, but all that are fed up and have legitimate complaints should be able to speak up free of debate baiting with unequal comparisons.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Neither did I, especially when we already have powersets which overlap in their use of resources. But he was convinced that, now that the devs had made staves a melee power, there was NO WAY that they would EVER consider wasting resources by repurposing them to a powerset that made far more sense for the weapon.

I suspect he was part of the crowd that thought Dual Pistols should have been a scrapper set, too.

Hmmm. Thanks to Zwill for at least giving us some heads-up.

However...

It seems very simple to me, if you have a huge bunch of people clamoring for product "x," you make product "x" available as soon as possible. Marketing/Release schemes are all and good, but not when that could potentially effect revenue/subscriptions.

Also, tossing out "not-so-much-clamored-for" product "a," "b," "c," and "d" as place-holders, seems more apt to alienate buyers then to encourage them.

Then again, that's just my opinion. I'm sure that NCSoft has a metric somewhere that supports their decision.

It's 106 miles to Grandville, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing faceless helmets

... Hit it ...

And they also pushed it live having acknowledged SERIOUS problems with it. Since then we have also had the pleasure of the pet AI being broken.

We've known about the existence of the Retro Sci-Fi pack for months as well. It doesn't make the anticipation of my getting something I've waited 7 years for any more or less valid than your anticipation about waiting for something you've wanted for years. *shrugs*

Somehow I think we'll both survive the wait regardless of the details...

Way to go with the hyperbole insinuation...

No one has said they're gonna go ape or anything if they don't get it. They're just expressing their annoyance at yet another market day without the staff set we KNOW is ready, and instead something that's totally useless.

Hell, it's not even a proper Liger ffs!

I could always cover the release schedule on my blog, if you want...

The only thing I'm insinuating is that people are overreacting big time to this. I guess I'm just missing what's making this week's "Staff Fighting no-show" so much more earth-shattering than any of the last couple of months worth of Tuesdays?

It'll be here when it gets here. If you are of the position that it's "long overdue" now what's another week or two going to add to that?

Just release it when it's ready...

And to the rest of you, "Not Today"=/= "NEVER!"

I disagree. There are few legitimate complaints here. Lots of complaints, but very little legitimacy.

Paragon Studios created this item. They have the right to produce or not produce, share or not share, sell or not sell at their discretion and on their own schedule. They did not break promises or obligate themselves in any way to any party.

Debate baiting? Yes, there are troll posts. You may even consider this to be one, but if you're going to vent your angst on a public forum, expect people that think differently to speak back. If you don't want public discourse, send the devs an email.

It has nothing to do with the anticipation of the past seven years for either staff or the rocket pack people. It has to do with the actual readiness of the staff set in January during level bumps to 50 for the purposes of testing the set and the New Dark Astoria end game incarnate content. That is not the same.

Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow, but I am glad you are rooting for people to make it, good on you.....

You disagree in the first sentence, yet you agree and admit there are in fact legitimate complaints in the second sentence. That is in fact what I said there are in fact legitimate complaints period.

Yes debate baiting as you also admit that there are people here creating troll posts as you put it. Well mate that is in fact what I said as well so you agree check.

I think you adding in the other stuff is the only issue because the stuff you agreed with is all I am talking about the other stuff is all you.

I'm not a fan of stuff that doesn't do things for me (cats, small children, other drivers, etc.) I would be more enticed to buy that has a small added bonus (recharge increase, MARTY protection, portable insp vendor, etc.)

So for me, personally, I most likely won't ever buy a vanity pet - that isn't to say there aren't people who won't want to buy vanity pets to complete a character look.

I just want my pets to do things. Like sing, "Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday..."

But that's just me.

I thought the golden rule was one retail powerset per fiscal quarter? In which case, we just started a new quarter, so...

Oh dear, its gonna be a long wait for a new powerset after staff goes live, isn't it?

Well for what it's worth the Leprechaun pet we just got a couple of weeks ago was the first non-Vet "vanity pet" that actually provided some kind of in-game power effect. With that threshold broken it's always possible that we'll be getting more pets that'll actually do things.
