Surely you understand this by now...
Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.
Ok finally seen my first Leprechaun in game. Owned by a player with no yearly vet badges but is a tier 8. So If you got the money to burn.... Guess I found the person for whom they were marketing this thing.
But that being said if you (Paragon) would make a vanity pet say "black cat" that would have "bad luck" follow others around when its out. I would spend 800 points out of spite just to have the power to make the damn leprechaun totally useless. Just info incase you want to market to people like me.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
What I want to know is: why all the vanity pets? Let's see some more one-off costume pieces like the fireman's hat. They sell for lower prices, maintaining the "micro" in micro-transactions, which means more people are likely to buy them. In turn, that means the amount of time spent making the piece (most likely less than that spent making a vanity pet) is made back quicker, and with fewer customers. It's a win/win.
Seriously, smaller things are better if you want to maintain this weekly release schedule. |
At least the idea of the pet made me laugh.
I say go for it devs, if you can make a profit off those with more money than brains and it makes my game better and last longer then I have no real complaints. That said, you ain't getting my cash on these vanity pets.
They have stated that the individual costume pieces sell significantly worse than costume sets. Personally I think that has to do with the lackluster selection of individual pieces, but they are taking a different message from it.

My other response to that is: release something that is non-specific, but highly usable.
-An actual motorcycle style helmet
-A redesigned trenchcoat
-Travel-power activated costume pieces (like a Rocket Boots variation with boosters in different locations, with a different colored exhaust).
Hell, release a generic one-off jet pack that activates when a Flight power is activated, price it reasonably, and I guarantee it will sell. (Yes, I'm aware both jet packs coming with the Retro Sci-Fi pack are generic looking or have a generic looking option.)
Admittedly, I did not buy the fireman's hat, but that's because I have no use for a costume piece as specific as that and I am sure I was not the only one. If they release generic pieces, the appeal will naturally be much higher.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.

"Woohoo, solitary items are the best sellers of them all!"
This is one of those situations where statistics can fail at conveying the truth.
Anyway, I had the same impression as you when I first read a developer saying that the single items don't seem to sell as well as the packs.

On a related note (( since it is on sale this week)) There is something about the German Shepard Pet that kinda bugs me (( and no it's not actually the price!)). In my personal opinion the dog is WAY too large in scale. Typically German Shepards are about as big as your waist, but these dog models are so large they when they are standing they come up to a person's chest. ((They should be Great Danes instead!)) So I really think they need to scale the size of these dog models a little. (( The Shadow Wolf for instance is pretty darned big. ))

Actually, the programmers and content developers are almost never directly in charge of pricing.

I know it would to me if I spent any amount of time developing something just to have the general public scoff at it because someone thought it would be a brilliant idea to put it on the market at an unreasonable price.
Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.
I bet that makes it seem to them as if whoever is in charge of pricing is deucing all over their efforts.

Come on people, we are in almost total agreement about what is the issue with this item and some how we still come up with something to argue about.
Leprechauns are not an irish stereotype, they are a mythical creature that is associated with ireland, money and rainbows.
The holiday that is coming up is Saint Patrick's day. Which is universally celebrated with green imagery: shamrocks, leprechauns, and drinking green beer. I would go so far as to say that the only people left who celebrate St. Patrick's day the real way would be the people in Ireland, but I'm not sure what is the real way to celebrate this day. If anything its like Martin Luther King Jr. day, or President's day where the appropriate thing to do is shop for mattresses.
To get mad at Paragon and say that they are some how wrong to offer up a leprechaun in celebration of St. Patrick's day is incorrect. The only way I could support your resistance is if you also got mad at every bar for decorating their place in 4-leaf clovers and selling green beer. It is just how the holiday is represented right now. Paragon would actually be doing something wrong if they didn't offer a leprechaun.
If you think about it, with the way the holiday is celebrated now the only things they could offer us in game would be:
1) Leprechaun pet
2) special green shamrock clothing
3) /em greenbeer which is the drink emote with a mug of green beer
4) give us back /em puke
Personally I would love a green sequenced jacket, but that will be another year.
In closing, you are not allowed to be mad at Paragon, or hold them responsible for leprechauns being associated with Saint Patrick's day, it is not their fault, it is the world's fault. (You would also have to get mad at them releasing a pet next month that would be a bunny rabbit that poops eggs.) So instead of arguing with each other I think we should stick to the real issue, and the pet is way over priced and needs to come down, and quick.
PS.
You know what kind of pet would be worth $10? A shivan

This is a lepre-con, at that price.
Guide: Tanking, Wall of Fire Style (Updated for I19!), and the Four Rules of Tanking
Story Arc: Belated Justice, #88003
Synopsis: Explore the fine line between justice and vengeance as you help a hero of Talos Island bring his friend's murderer to justice.
Grey Pilgrim: Fire/Fire Tanker (50), Victory
I'd pay 800pp for the Vahlz Pack with:
1. Boiling Aura
2. Zombie Run -- now with mag 1 terrify all NPC's (civilians, too!) in 10(?) foot area but de-toggles all powers
3. Zombie Masks (stuff that looks like Carnival Masks for males - I'd settle for just unlocking them the same ones on a male)
4. ***/em puke***
5. Drink green flask of chemicals - your beverage of choice may or may not have some sparkly things fly out of it
6. Permanant passive power that lets you heal 5% of everyone's health like the Ghouls upon your death
This is what I ment by in my last post that the game has enough to stand on its own merits. It could accomadate some *interpretive* ideas wrapped up within the game's format.
We already have rainbow aura, pilgram hat, etc to top it all off. And immagin: you could be *THAT GUY* with the strange travel power this time of year in the U.S.!
Edit: Not to mention that it starts the idea of having packs based on groups in game (we have Nemi staff, etc)

Meanwhile, they could pay the bills on the money they would rake in by simply making the already-existing raptor pack into a backpack option. Instead we can wear hats like the pilgrims. Seriously, what the hell? I want this to be a superhero game, not a kindergarten holiday pageant.
This is so obvious I have no idea why it wasn't what was implemented from the start. How can we now have backpacks and a game in which you can be an archer and still not have quivers -- but we can have leprechauns and fireman hats? How does that make any sense at all?
