What rule is there against there being super pilgrims? And it's not like there are absolutely no other uses whatsoever for a buckled hat... (why, the Leprechaun pet is wearing that same hat, in fact!)
And I actually have a leprechaun character that I made with the release of the Steampunk booster named "Pot O' Brass." I don't play him often. Heck, I think he's still in the tutorial. But I liked the concept enough to make him and not subsequently delete him.
So don't go knocking additions to the store just because you don't personally like them. Someone out there will see plenty of uses for them, even if you don't.
... If you want to knock their pricing on the other hand, knock yourselves out. I'm way too busy rage-waving both my middle fingers at the $10 price tag on the Leprechaun Pet to type in a coherent rebuttal to stop you.

To do that, you'd first supply them with things superheroes commonly have before branching out into things that no superhero has. There are no superhero Pilgrims. That's ridiculous. The fact that you can make one in this game, but you can't have a jetpack, for instance, is ridiculous. I can also make a samurai or a boxer in this game, neither of which are superheroes. Yes, I can make them into superheroes -- as if I'd want to -- but I'm out of luck if I just want a hero who has a jetpack?
And I bought the Pilgrim hat, so wrap your head around that one. I have it on hand to use for a scarecrow-monster or a time-traveling Solomon Kane type, both of which would be dark fantasy characters and neither of which would be superheroes, which is ostensibly the focus of this game. But will you see one of my superheroes wearing the Pilgrim hat? Of course not. Why? Because it's a Pilgrim hat.
To put it another way, I actually enjoyed the Disco pack and the Old West Saloon pack (neither of which were named what they really are), but, even though I think they were generally well done, I would have taken actual superhero basics over them in an instant.
Personally, the only way I would buy the leprechaun for that price is if they added a slight prestige bonus as well. That in itself would be more worth 800 points to many players, myself included.

Wow, I'm impressed, my mouth has been shut.
Come on people, we are in almost total agreement about what is the issue with this item and some how we still come up with something to argue about.

I will agree that it's unfortunate that there is no option for jetpacks currently (or scabbards, quivers and just about any of the other back options that have been repeatedly asked for since the game launched). They always said that was due to a technical limitation in the way costumes are built... but then they started adding back options last year and said that wasn't a problem anymore, yet STILL haven't fulfilled the majority requests for back options. Jetpacks are at least on the table, though--the upcoming Retro Sci-Fi set will have 2 or 3 different jetpacks available in it, possibly even more.
Everything else you said is a matter of opinion; some of them (those wishing for new superhero-themed costume options) are valid for discussion, while others (those knocking existing parts specifically because they're not what you wanted) are not. Regardless, this isn't the thread for that discussion.

Where did the price come from? That's easy!
I played another NC Soft game with a microtransaction store (and which officially goes ftp on 4/11/12). The game shall remain nameless since you can't name other MMOs in forum threads.
In that store pets ran between $8 (vanity, no extras) and $15 (it did something useful).
This pet is a vanity pet with a very minor buff, IE: worth a bit more than $8... so $10.
/em pass
I paid for the vanity kitten pet. It played, it mewed, it scratched at your foes, and you got an emote to pet it. I even played the game for a year with my little kitten running at my side, which totally made the difference in making the game "meh" and worth playing for me.
I'd pay for THAT again, but I won't pay for this. I'm not offended, but I can't help but wonder what the response would be if this was a stereotyped Kwaanza pet.

I can see it now; a pet shivan that follows you around and does nothing. 10$
|
No, I meant a shivan, as in the temp power that you get from bloody bay. $10 for a permanent power that allows me to summon a shivan (the same kind that you can get in bloody bay) that will actually fight in combat with me.
That is worth 800 points. Not this "non-combat, but can still die" nonsense.

That is terrible, why would anyone buy that? You have the worst ideas.

Leprechaun is a good idea..but bad pricing....
as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.

If by some miracle they did deliver a combat pet like that then I'd expect 1 of 2 things:
1: An extremely nerfed completely over priced totally not worth it, Runs off to aggro every mob back to you equipped with a Golden Girl winky...firing away on your face burning your retinas as said mobs tear you to shreds, completely bugged on a timer with a hella cooldown combat Shivan not worth its weight in Nethergoat urine.
2: A craftable recipe drop that only allows you one Shivan boss level <scaled to you> that lasts 5 minutes. <Also not worth it's weight in nethergoat urine> Did you know there is a similar thing already in game that does this?
Which do you think is gonna happen?
You are waaaaaaaaaay better off just spending a few minutes in bloody bay gathering samples of rocks. Quote me on that.
Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.
heh. The way i read it was; that may be your suggestion/idea, but what we'd get instead is what the crazy rabbit said.

Less Guiness in Paragon Studios before price pointing, I think.
I used to buy *every* costume pack but you've made it either: too difficult to work out what we have or just plain stupidly priced that I don't bother any more.
Great job on increasing sales!

This item should have been release at 80 points. Maybe 100. Influence means nothing in the game right now, because we have nothing worth spending it on. If they changed the ratio of inf/prestige I'd spend it on that. As it stands now, I can log on and make anywhere from 7 to 400 Million in 40 minutes everyday. What do I need a little green drunkard following me around for? If they added the prestige boost to the pet, yes, I'd go as high as 300 points, if it was unkillable, 500 points. I get that it was released for St. Patricks day. That's cool. Right before 2x XP Weekend with two new powersets pending? NOT cool. I also understand the high pressure to release something new every week. But aside from the sound issues, the powersets were both ready. Should have released one of them AND the pet.

My greater point somehow continues to get lost. I am now going to condense it into a meme-friendly soundbite: "Jetpacks before Pilgrim Hats".
It is ridiculous that a superhero game isn't first meeting the basic requirements of the genre before introducing other elements that are only put to use by its customers because (a) the basics aren't there and they have to work with something and (b) they spent money on it, so they might as well use it.
Or, in other words, nobody was demanding a Pilgrim hat. But if you want steak and the only restaurant in town is a steakhouse that only serves salad, you eat the salad. Sure would be nice to get steak, though.
A radioactive green behemoth wearing nothing but purple pants is ridiculous too, but there are plenty of people who seem to like that idea just fine...

I appreciate that you think the thing you insist on discussing shouldn't be discussed, but, sadly, you don't make the rules (or follow the ones you make) and here we are. I have news: everything you've said is a matter of opinion. And that's how this discussion thing actually works. Yours aren't wrong, and mine -- no matter how much somebody might think otherwise -- aren't wrong, either. You do characterize them inaccurately, but I'm sure other people get the point by now.
They have stated that the individual costume pieces sell significantly worse than costume sets. Personally I think that has to do with the lackluster selection of individual pieces, but they are taking a different message from it.

uniformity, uniformity, uniformity. |
They seem to think that just because they are points now that we will forget that we spent money on them, like tokens for an arcade, they may give you bonus ones when you buy in bulk, but you still paid for them.

individual pieces? what you mean the firehats? That the only one I saw, that actually came up for sale (and the school backpack! should do the fire fighter's backpack too, the graphic is already there, even for players). And I never saw them advertised, just locked in my window, and that was mostly accidental since I almost never use hats (due to not being able to pick the hair that goes with them). You mean there were others? Maybe if they advertised them a bit more they might sell better. I saw many get teased, like the pilgrim hat, later renamed tri-corner hat, and never put out. there were some chainmail pieces that never actually showed in game...
|
That is, they saw a more positive flow from people buying the whole Barbarian costume set than say people buying piecemeal stuff from it like just the leather harnesses or the crotch tribble. Which also means stand alone pieces like the fireman and pilgrim hat don't sell well either, where they might if bundled in a pack.
My take on that is they mean that any individual piece doesn't sell as well as the whole set.

The Never on Sale Pilgrim Hat (would have bought it if the store had ever let me, but every time I tried it told me it didn't exist, and they never said it was on sale so i just assumed it was one of those things on there early, it showed up and vanished and changed names and came back), the fire hats and the school backpack are the only ones I can think of I ever saw for sale that were not a part of a pack. And I bought all 3 (even though I have never used the hats and probably never will, but they were cheap), maybe if they would put in a filter so that we could see only the items in the shop we do not have, then maybe it would be easier to see these things too. Or make it so the organizer will list by date released, make it have one that puts the stuff we own at the end of the list...
If it wasn't so hard to search through the individual pieces to find what you want or to tell if you own it or not they might sell a lot more too. Way to hard to navigate if you are trying to buy more than one or two things. Try to buy more than one thing that are on pages 11-15 or more, it is a PITA.
