I think, besides Dechs, Dragynn and StormyDarkness, you were the one of the best people that had helped me more through the years of builds and I regret never running into you in game. But I rarely logged into Freedom after I found my home in Virtue. Still, thank you for all your help and work and take care and if you ever see a Straenge in game anywhere, chances are, it's me.
-
Have you tried Dungeon and Dragons Online? It has a decent community and Free to play options and better than most fantasy MMO's, imo.
-
It still hasn't fully sit in for me. The problem lies in my momentary breaks. I usually quit between July-October and start back up in the winter.
To be honest, my plan was to go to Secret World by now, either love it or get bored with and eventually head back home to COH even if to take a break but lack of computer upgrades have kept me from even trying my beta access, let alone the full game. The only other games I have ever played have either died or the communitys weren't worth staying for. I refuse to touch Runescape again and the only fantasy MMO I even remotely enjoyed, even briefly was DDO.
I don't have any RL friends who game outside Xbox or possibly WOW so at this point, I think I will simply sigh bitterly and hope like hell there will be another MMO in the future where I can find as many adult players as I did here. I don't mind the kids so much as I just enjoy having fellow adults to talk to now and then. I may try Champions Online but, as before, I really didn't care for it much. However, if you ever see Straenge anywhere, 9 times out of 10, it's probably me. Something of a trademark at this point.
My only real regret is not getting to know people better here in some ways. I always tended be a loner which is kind of a moot point in an MMO but at least I was able to know a few great people here. -
Seriously, no words could express what I felt when I first saw this...

Some peoples idea of Nerf is different then others but, imo, the best armor would be something like Mace/shield just because it gives you more of a "knight" feel. As for asthetics, basically whatever you can make that looks both soft, pliable and colored in bright yellows and oranges, not unlike a Crashtest dummy. I would say use parts like the Olympian shoulder pads, bulky armor top and legs that give the impression of nerf pads. Maybe something like this.

Jake, the artist/engineer who did the laptop above is a friend of mine and did quite a few similar mods and also has a few videos on making your own as well.
As for the original typewriter usb mod I love it but, oddly enough, it reminds me less steampunk and more Transmetropolitan if it were a bit more futuristic but thats just my Spider Jerusalem fanboy side showing. Still after over 10 years of doing those type of mods and having nothing to show for it until it became popularized and outsourced by hotglue and plastic gears, oddly enough it makes me sad but hopeful that the fad doesn't create a stigma among those of us who were steampunk/dieselpunk followers.
I have been toying with the idea of creating some usb steampunk components that either haven't been seen before (minature desktop tesla coils, minature Orrery, ect.) to sell but haven't found time to put work into them. -
Quote:Oh that was written over a year ago and haven't updated it much since then and my views have changed a bit. I wanted it to be more open with working with other SG's while keeping to our own canon without pushing it on anyone else which is why I added that part.Well, if I may throw my two cents in, part of the problem may be, as well, that you guys run with a fairly strict background and setup for the SG that would seemingly - at least from first glance - require potential members to rework some of their characters or create a new one from scratch. Not to mention that you "follow majority of the City of Heroes Canon and Timeline with only a few minor differences," which could be a bit of an impediment from any in-depth RPing with non-SG individuals and other groups, if the continuity changes are big and/or prominent enough. Both of those could be impediments to bringing new folks on board.
That said, please don't take that as an insult or undue critisism. I like the concept quite a bit.
For me, my scattered ideas at this point are along the lines of an ad hoc "Monster House" that has been operating as contractors of sorts to various governmental and metahuman organizations on the more "weird" issues as the pop up. That should allow for the broadest base of character types and pan-RP community connections.
Overall though, I was trying more or less the same thing, only it was a bit more underlying/secretive due to the nature of many of the SG members being darker. Something more of a haven for those considered "Evil" just by the way they look as well as a research/development society and as an organization who strives for balance. For instance, Humans can call any number of organizations to help them with fighting the paranormal. We are the ones that the paranormal/supernatural beings need help when things get too weird for even them. -
This is a great idea though, unfortunately, after 2 years, I haven't really been able to find much in the way of this type of RP, or at least with people who think similar to myself. Almost all of my characters are loosely based on not only COH canon but also Lovecraft, Gaiman and Mignola among others. Originally, the Unforsaken, my SG, was based on a Lovecraftian-styled order of protectors of balance from pre-human times. The problem always lies in every individuals style of RP as well character development and just overall personality which is why I never was able to get it quite off the ground.
If/when you do get together or begin forming this group, your more then welcome to use the Unforsaken base which is a steampunk/arcane/realistic styled underground lair of sorts. -
I came runner up as the Sterling Scarab but haven't gotten a response or my code yet. Hope everyone else got theres.

Quote:Actually, I like the way they are presently.. I prefer realistic/gritty over shiny/toonish anyway but I think most would concur that a real welding mask would be slightly grimey anyway. However, texture/color looks fine for me and even if they made the eye shield look slightly cleaner would be fine to me as well.
Update the textures a bit and I'm sold! (Ze goggles...ze look like crap!)
Quote:And, while we're at it... I'd love this backpack option!
It would be interesting too having matching welders apron.. gloves we pretty much already have from the science pack. -
Quote:Not necessarily. I don't think it would be that difficult to do underwater content overall. For instance, in one of the Shining Stars missions where you go into Manticores house and tunnels, toward the end there is a typical cave with crosswalk and water.. the interesting part is you can jump in and go beneath the water, even walk under the bridge. The water physics are still present near the edges but other then that, you can go right in. All they would need is to make a map with a deep enough water space, use a haze screen effect much like they do in Night Ward or the screen aura when you get close to the sonic fields.. and add a temp power "swim" which would be a form of flying while inside water.. I would love to see maps like this.. possibly involving more Lovecraftian storylines and the Coralax on heroside even.
As for underwater stuff, dunno if that is likely to work. A lot of work for few content. -
Quote:Honestly, I don't understand why the Devs did not do that to begin with, making a separate tab under the second window just for LFG would have been easier. I did the same thing but newer players may not understand how the chat tab system works or how to edit them. It took me 8 months or so to get around to setting it up myself.
I prefer to solo play most of the time and here is what I did to solve my problem: I created a new chat tab for LFG. I keep my top section of my chat on the help channel. This way I can see if there is a question I can answer when someone is asking for help on something and I don't see many looking for teams. If I am interested in seeing if anyone is starting a team for something I want to do, I can click the LFG tab and check it out. -
So with the Freebie Friday Princess Hat, I thought perhaps that maybe in the future, we would be given a few more hat options either on FF or just through the store. The problem is, I don't have any female toons and doubt I ever will but I thought I would suggest giving us something that both genders could use equally, the Welder's Mask.
I am guessing because I so rarely play redside that I just never payed attention to it before but I really love the look of it and could think of several uses for it if it were ported as a hat or even detail 2 (similar to the elemental order mask). -
I have to agree on this. I would love to see more of their storylines playout or even similar story arcs. I always tell new players they should run it at least once just for the experience.

Quote:To be honest, I hadn't heard anything about absorption other then what I have read here. I understand it to a point but still need to see it in action. However, a funny thing occured yesterday. Long story short, I was at the end of the first SSA Part 1 mission solo (rest of the team at the entrance) when I solo'ed the boss and his minions, all CoT. During the fight, a grey "absorbed" kept popping up above either my head or the CoT boss mage.. I didn't get exact figures or look in Combat to see who/what was effecting that but it was a bit.. odd. I am going to see if I can repeat it. So either something is buggy or CoT leaders are also using this mechanic as well.
...all I learned in chat was that Shadow Hunter uses it and we don't have it yet? -
I play Sinister Skeet Golf. It involves pulling mobs on to a tall roof with my Illusionist, angle myself just right and release Phantasm before hitting the mob with a baseball bat.. If I time it just right, I can send them flying while Phantasm uses them for target practice.
Quote:You know, oddly enough I do this quite often too.. sometimes setting the camera to First Person and looking down the whole way.jump off buildings and try to activate a travel power before i hit ground -
Quote:Actually, about 2 months ago, the exact same thing happened to me. There were two Paladins in Kings Row and I pulled one up to street level with me. When I finished with him, I decided to go after the next one and just as he was about 3/4 hp, another spawned right next to me and surprisingly was able to kill them both. At the time, I was lvl 46. Gotta love a Demon/Traps.
For me, my crowning moment of awesome was fighting off 2 Paladins and winnng, just before a third came walking over and I beat him too. I did have to use Lore pets and the odd dagger :P But it felt awesome.
However, I think I prefer my Illusion/Trick Arrow because it's such a rare combination. I was quite proud of him when he solo'ed his first GM without temps before incarnates existed mostly because I was told it couldn't be done due to having no -regen.
However, the fun parts with him usually involve using the baseball bat on a mob off the top of a tall building while Phantasm uses the same target to skeet shoot.
Quote:Piss people off on the forums when I mention my Petless DS Trap MM. ... Always seems to stir up a fight. Reality every time play a toon I start to gravitate toward petless MM more and more for the challenge..
As for solo-ing TF's and the like. This I have yet to do. I think at least my Illusion and Demon characters are capable but just haven't really felt the need for it. I may try it this weekend. -
Quote:You know, there are several places like that in various places. I even found a really nice dockside one in Nerva with umbrellas and chairs on the Southeastern most island. I think also they need to re-evaluate some of the sizing issues or maybe make chairs in those type of areas big enough for the "average" hero.. being the size of about 6'4" according to the costume sizing chart. If you see these chairs, even small characters would have a hard time sitting down in them due to the umbrellas.
The little shopping area by Mirror Spirit in Faultline has a pretty cool Italian restaurant that I like to use as a set piece from time to time. It's too bad the chairs on the patio are too small to actually sit on. -
I really do miss seeing more rooftop RP but I often wish there was like an outside restaurant or patio in every neighborhood just to RP at. I just find it funny that everyone congregates like pigeons around the Atlas Statue. The Atrium in Atlas is a good example of a great environment to RP in or even a few of the rooftops that look much more realistic now. It's just too bad that Atlas lags quite a few people. I just wish there were more places like the Atrium in other neighborhoods.
However, there are a couple of places that were not mentioned that I thought would be nice to add.
Kings Row - Northeast from the Police Station is a rooftop with a smoke stack and water tower. Next to it on the roof is a couch and a refrigerator
Steel Canyon - University and Midnighter's Club. It's too bad there really isn't any other place there as it's such a great zone. -
Basically, what others have said here, it's best to post a build first. It's not just about trying it yourself build-wise but also shows your playstyle a bit more and can tweak from there. If you want, you can look at the build I posted which is fairly decent overall to give you an idea.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=4242179
It has a couple of purple sets but runs fine with posi's and basilisk's gaze instead. As for the end issues, trust me I feel that pain so well but the Conserve Power from Power Mastery helps quite a bit. It does very well against pretty much anything outside AV's and GM's. -
Ok, well first I want to apologize for not taking the advice about Psychic Mastery because I am a fool apparently. I didn't realize the mechanics around World of Confusion and assumed it was.. well, let's just say much different then actuality.
That being said, the Professor is now at 48. I am happy with his build so far yet, I am disappointed in a way. On teams or even solo, I can do very good work against +4 and even was able to take out spawns in Peregrine that were +6 my level when I was 44, as long as I paid attention. However, I attempted my first solo AV and I barely scratched him. I threw everything I had and then some and I was able to survive fine but I could not even get him below 3/4 health. In theory, I felt that this build would be capable of solo'ing AV's and possibly even the lower class GM and after incarnate, I am sure I could but, while I realize outside Howling Twilight, I have no -regen, I felt the overall DPS of fire would make up for that in some small way..
Before anyone says it, yes I know other builds that can easily solo those hard targets like /Rad or /Cold but I guess I was just hoping for a bit more oomph in the late game even without musculature. As for my End issues.. they are still very much there but I did pick up Conserve power and when it's up, works great.
So here is the last build for him, but keep in mind I am not running the purples right now.. everything is the same except I have 4 slotted Petrifying Gaze with Basilisk's Gaze and Positron in place of the Ragnaroks and I have 4th End Mod in Stamina. The higher set boni from the purples will take care of that when/if I move it.
Anyone know how/if I can squeeze out a bit more damage? I was considering dropping the flares or firebreath for Aim but considering I have powerboost, I would feel like I would have to time it right just to get a 10 second damage boost.

When it comes to Cyberpower/Ibuypower, it's very YMMV. Some boxes are put together surprisingly well while others not so much. Always check the connections to everything before your first boot and yes, they have had PSU issues which is probably due to the cheap parts they typically use.
If you buy it, the first thing is to make sure you have a properly grounded power strip, one of the more expensive ones are worth the cash. If you have any severe issues, they have a warranty but you could always install a 600w aftermarket PSU for relatively cheap and would probably last longer. If your unfamiliar with computers and you don't want take chances, then find a friend who can check your connections.
Good luck!
Edit: I don't and haven't owned one of their computers, personally but I have known people who have and worked on them a few times. DOA's are rare but can happen. Otherwise, it's a good deal overall. You could possibly build one for slightly cheaper but only if you already had a copy of Windows. -
No, it will not do that. The fact is, most would agree that recharge outweighs most procs in OSA with the exception for for the Achilles Debuff. Now you could try others and see how well it works but.. imo, the procs just aren't worth it. Keep in mind that the proc plays off oil slick itself, not the fire tics as far as I know. Basically, think of it this way. When you use OSA on a group and begin to see them fall, for every knockdown, there would be a chance for that proc to go off. The fire from setting OSA is in itself a seperate event.

When it comes to /Traps, I would say AR might be slightly better than DP due to it's nature. You have beanbag that can disorient while you set up mortar or toebomb much easier and you can use ignite with caltrops where as DP offers no "extras" outside the secondary effects from it's specialty ammo. The only thing AR/Traps (or DP/Traps for that matter) is lacking is an AOE Hold which between Seekers stuns and Web Immobilize from the Scorpion PP makes up for. All in all, while unlike others I rather like DP, I have to give it to AR for having better Synergy overall.
And yes.. it can be end heavy but that is also YMMV to a degree. It really depends on playstyle, build, recharge, ect. Now, I personally have more experience with /Traps on MM's but I also have it on few corrupters along with /Dark and the endurance issue is comparable, imo.
I am currently running a Fire/Dark so as for your question concerning DP/Dark vs AR/Traps and what you prefer... that's really something only you can decide. I have the same issue sometimes so in most cases, I attempt both to lvl 20 or so. It's usually about 20 that I can decide if I like the set or not.
