Greetings!

It is time once again to let those creative juices flow and your couture to shine for all to see. The May costume contest is upon us!

This month's theme is BUGS!

So if you flit through the air, buzz with the swarms and generally find yourself attracted to light bulbs in the middle of the night, this contest is for YOU!

Now it's time to show your talents and your amazing bug themed costumes for all the world to see. That is, if you can rise above the rest of the hive...

If you think you have what it takes to win, we want you to come this Friday, May 25th to the Pinnacle server. Our judges will be there at 11:00am PDT (2:00pm EDT; 7:00pm BST) and 6:00pm PDT (9:00pm EDT; 2:00am BST on Saturday, May 26th).

We expect to see a large turnout for this event, so we thought of no better place to showcase the styles and visions of the best and brightest of our community than Pocket D! DJ Zero promises us that no one will be brandishing fly-swatters.

Thanks to our friends in QA helping judge our contest, we felt it prudent to make it something they were comfortable with. Those amazing Arbiters, being our expert bug hunters, will see you there in all your insectoid regalia!

Will your outfit be what the BUZZ is all about?

Read the complete rules & conditions here!

I really don't mean to be a downer here, and will probably come off looking like a [pancake] for asking, but if everything 'extracurricular' you do is on regular servers, including surprise appearances in the past, what's the point of Exalted?

If only VIP's can play there, but get nothing special from it, what's the point of it being special beyond only paying customers can go there?

Now I readily and fully admit, when that came out, I actually had my SG make a static group over there and level some characters up to 50 in the event that you guys made it the 'special event' server for paying customers, we'd have at least some chance of being involved in 'the neat stuff'. We've long since gone back to Champ, well... because it's our home server and that's where we like to be, and more than one of us is comfortable and familiar with it's community when we PuG (if you can call it that on Champ). So from that perspective, yay, we may see something for us on Champ special some time! On the other hand, why did we bother on Exalted? (Fun times, sure, but that could have been had on Champ with a well-established SG to draw from).

Now, I SWEAR I'm not trying to be a party-pooper, but this has been in the back of my mind for a long enough time to have seen so many special events on other servers while Exalted has been ignored, that it begs me to ask the question, why make the other server if you hadn't intended on making that the one you all interracted with the paying clientbase on as a general rule, as opposed to all other servers for your convenience, and to encourage players to pay for the 'interraction stuff' with the rednames?

I don't care about the answer except in the most morbid curiosity kind of way (as personally I tend avoid hyped events- but some in my SG might want to be involved- and far be it from me to hold them back) but at this point I honestly can't see a point in Exalted, if you're going to do special events on other servers, as opposed to it. That's all.

I know this probably comes across as a troll post, but I really don't mean it to. I'm just genuinely curious as to the point of Exalted as a 'pay only' server.

I couldn't agree more.

Please do some contests without prizes equal to cash value. That way everyone can join in. Not just the countries you've bothered to check contest requirements for.

It's not like the $30 prize is much more than a token ribbon anyway.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

I for one am glad that they are starting to server hop, i asked for it each and every Dev held CC.
The reason Exalted is a bad place to hold it, is in my opinion, simple.
Not every VIP wants to be there, i for one never even selected that server.
The other reason, so that the Free and Premium players see that the Devs treat us all as equal.
Now i hear people say: "I'm better than a Premium or Free, because i am a VIP." Keep this in mind... as a Free or Premium player you will not get the same perks the game has to offer as VIPs do, think Incarnate content, free monthly Reward Token, free 400-550 Paragon Points per month and more.
The Dev held CC should be open to the entire community, not divide it.
Also the 'perks' of playing on a VIP server are for many the same, to not deal with new players. I for one love to talk, help and team with new players, teach them the game, the background and history of the game.
Imagine when you 1st started playing, how would you feel if people didn't wanted to team up with you, talk to you, help you or give you advice, just because you didn't have a single Veteran Badge?
Now imagine the thoughts of Free and Premium players, joining an event hosted by the Devs, something not many, if any, games do. They'll get the feeling that the Devs care, not just care about the VIPs. And if you think the CC should only be for paying players, note that there are Premium players who spend more on the game per month than several VIPs do/can.

Thank you Devs, for server hopping, spreading the love around!
I'll be there!

You mean you don't know!
Its there for the arrogant elitists to lock themselves away on so the rest of us don't need to /ignore them

More seriously:
If all events were done on Exalted only then how would any new player know what they are missing. Holding events on the regular servers mean that free/premium players can see the extras that we pay for and that may bring in new subscriptions.

Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.

Yeah if only there was a place where you could showcase a picture of the winners. It would be really nice to see the costumes.....I know why not post them in the thread for that contest I'm sure that 99.999999% of the population could find and see the winners. I would say 100% but there's always one.

The VIP server was something the community requested...there was a fear among some that the incoming hordes of free players would create an unpleasant atmosphere, and they wanted the option to avoid them. I don't think there was ever any indication that you'd get special perks for playing there.

It is about time the devs did something on a server that wasn't virtue or freedom.

Could you explain how the community somehow managed to get together and ask for a VIP server before they even knew the game was going to be switching to F2P?

Cuz the devs announced the addition of the VIP server the same day they broke the news about switching to Freedom. The VIP server announcement was in the FAQ posted by Avetea, and also on the website.

A: Yes, although we have taken several steps to make sure that our VIPs have the choice for how they want to play, including creating a new VIP-only server.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

I agree with this idea more than anything else, and think it's great.

Just to be clear on my end:

I'm actually glad they're not holding things specifically on Exalted and keep sharing with everyone.

I just got the impression that's what the plan was. As someone else mentioned, maybe they realized that was a bad idea and not very good for building community, so much as walling off others.

Anyway, I didn't mean to derail, I was just talking with one of my SG mates about this the other day and I was curious, more than anything.

In any event, I'm happy to be back on Champion, worry free

That makes sense too. I never had that worry so I guess I relegated that to a tertiary item.

There was a lot of speculation and concern about the possibility of F2P before it was officially announced:

See also Postron's comments here:

"Two examples I can give are the new VIP-Only server, where subscribers can play without non-paying players simply because we saw that as an oft-requested feature, and the ability to return as a Free player and create a brand new character, not be forced in reactivating (or worse deleting) old characters that are still on your account. Aw Forbin_Project, it's simple to answer that question.

Everyone knows that the Devs and OCR Team are masters of mind-reading.

Also, they have their own O-Portal set up in the office so they can travel back in time to write their posts.

What other reason do you think they would have for not allowing players to tour their offices.

They won't even let you past the lobby if you show up there.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Oxymoron detected.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

It is a common concern with any transition to F2P model, recognizable both by researching the forums of other games that make the transition and by looking at the discussions we had here on these forums, when the topic came up.

We also know that they had a kind of 'alpha' group of select community members before this announcement was made, so the topic may have come up there as well.

Pretending to be a pizza deliveryman didn't work?

Time for phase 2:

-sneak in,
-pull the fire alarm near the entrance. it can be found on the lefthand side, about 3 feet from the perimeter alarm panel.
-slip into one of the crowds gathering outside.
-follow them back inside as if you belong there.
-if confronted, pretend to be a fire marshall.
-if they don't buy it, congratulate them for their vigilance, explain you're an NCSoft facility security auditor, and ask to meet with the studio leads in the conference room for a debriefing.
-if all else fails, initiate "Phase 3"

Phase 3:
- operative A enters the front of the building appearing completely unhinged, red-faced, covered in sweat, some large package strapped to his chest, screaming, "YOU NERFED MY REGEN SCRAPPER."
- this phrase always initiates the Paragon Studios emergency evacuation procedures because, let's face it, anyone that believes that regen scrappers weren't in dire need of a nerf is a truly unhinged individual.
- as the evacuation proceeds, operative B follows the team to the emergency assembly area, trying "phase 2" tactics above.
- operatives C, D, & E infiltrate the evacuated building with full 360 degree tactical camera gear and GPS systems. The data will let us recreate Paragon Studios in a 3d virtual reality room for later analysis.
- They are to retrieve whatever they find. Points will be awarded based on the attached ParagonStudiosScavengerHunt.xml file.

Phase 4: classified.
