I was considering picking up a few packs and trying for the new gun. I love coming up with new looks for my bots mastermind. A friend said he got it but that it was unavailable for the bots mastermind...

Any reason why this new gun isn't available for bots? It looks like it would work just fine?

I have not heard this anywhere. In fact, I have only heard that they have no plans of doing this.

I'd guess they'll be rolled over to the market either shortly after the initial rush of pack purchasing dies down to a certain level or more likely it will happen around the time the next pack gets added to the game.

That is, of course, assuming that they're successful. If they aren't then who knows, maybe around when the idea's deemed unsuccessful.

Really bought it just for the costume parts, got a 12 pack, then 5 more singles. From that got all the costume pieces (11 in total), 9 ATOs, 3 Catalysts, over 1000 merits, the Black Wolf Pet, then temps/insps/consumables. When they add them to the Tier 9 Rewards i'm sure each month i'll drop my token for the 5 packs until they release more Tier 9 VIP stuff. While I wouldn't say "This is the worst idea ever", it's deffinetly sketchy in the way they've been mostly silent about the outcry, but I noticed for only spending $15 basically I got everything I wanted and if I didn't get it from those packs, I would of hit my max of $20. But I wouldn't go crazier that than, and with the numbers for unique stuff you'll more than likely get everything in that first $20.

Then again it's all about how willing you are to gamble, cause that's really what it is not kid ourselves. Like any responsible gambling, i'd set a limit. =)

The same insult which ignorant people use for anyone who would dare to buy a game which they then have to pay a monthly fee to pay. EG, an MMO.

I'm guessing people are going to dismiss your judgment of the unfortunately named super packs in the same way MMO players presumably dismiss the judgment of.. others.

Still hate the visit Winscott mission- make it dropable, have it give actual exp or remove it altogether. PS- Down knows who you are.

A lot of us, including myself, never get the e-mail. They assume we are opted out (which I am not) when we complain about it and nothing gets done about it.

I know it's not much to go on, but I had enough points for 2 packs so I went ahead and bought a couple.

I got the belt, gloves, and canon out of it...and a bunch of crap that I didn't.

Those 2 packs are probably it for me though.

I assume there is a mechanism in place that prevents you from getting the same costume piece more than once?

Plenty of us did, plenty of us don't feel like doing it anymore. This may shock you but my preferences actually have changed in the past 10-20 years.

That said, I fully support this week's Paragon Market "offerings", since it's yet another thing I have no interest in using my stipend on (and I'm sure not gonna buy points for them).

Yes, all non-consumables (costume pieces, ATIOs too I believe?) are removed from your drop pool when you get them.

Yes. Once you get one piece, it is removed from the table of possibilities.

That's an easy and truthful analogy to make, but here's the difference by my logic: gambling on trading card packs yielded something I could see, touch, and play with exclusive of anything else, while gambling on super packs is gambling on bits of data that become inaccessible if my computer crashes, the power goes out, the servers go down, or (in an extreme case) the game ceases to exist for some catastrophic reason.

At the end of the day, I am paying money for intangible stuff that depends on multiple parts of a technological system. I have no problem doing that so long as I can afford it, but I have to at least be paying for exactly what I want.

As I said earlier, I am not knocking anyone who wishes to or has already purchased these. I am simply giving my reasoning as to why I will not be doing the same.

I wouldn't bet on it.

And in case the people creating this stuff care, I won't be wasting any points or money on it, it's a rip off, and really lowers my opinion of the people behind the game.

Yes, each item in the paragon market has an 8-digit alphanumeric "product code" that is applied to your account. Each of the costume pieces in this pack has their own product code and you can't get permanent account-wide unlocks multiple times with this system, with a few exceptions like the invention system unlock or character slots.

It cost me less than $1 per pack since I purchased the bundles.

The numbers can be meaningful since perception often becomes reality. When meaningful statistics are backed with case after case of supporting evidence (such as players who actually buy things), a case can be made that the entire costume set can be acquired for less than $15 - plus you get the assorted Reward Merits, Enhancement Boosters, Unslotters, ATOs, etc.

Even your Beta experience is in line with that. One detail that you omitted was that you got more than just a costume set for the 13 packs that you opened in Beta. You also received a number of consumables. While you may not value those items highly, they were part of the transaction.

I'm not fooling myself: people will buy these packs. Heck, people will plunk down hundreds of dollars on these packs. These people are predisposed to dismissing my opinion of these packs.

I know I'm not going to change anyone's opinion of these packs. However, I do have the freedom to make my opinion about these packs known.

SnowGlobe and Rabid makes good points. I would hope that the offerings become available without the random process.

Random piece of information that may be shading my opinion. I loved buying Magic cards. I knew the moment my girlfriend would become my wife 16 years ago. I just bought a couple backs and got a white knight. She didn't have a clue what it was, but when I explained, she was happy for me. ( and didn't run away.) Still married happily. Happy Valentines day.

And every single consumable in those packs was, in my opinion, a waste of my time, effort, and potential money.

I don't need or use the same consumables that are a part of my veteran rewards, so why would I want to pay for them?

Oddly, the Beta Paragon Rewards section offers the repeatable option of 5 Super Packs for 1 token. I'm not sure when/if this is going to be pushed to LIVE though.

Don't strain yourself with the "discounts"...
It's somewhat hard to effectively discount a dollar without eventually just giving away a ton of things for free.

Sure, it goes $1->$0.88->$0.75 but that's also 12% and 25% off each in the pack.

I'm still not sure how many I'm going to actually buy, but I do anxiously await their addition to the T9 repeatable rewards section of the reward 'tree'. I have a surfeit of reward tokens and nothing that I really want to spend them on at the moment.

There is - but it doesn't remove the chance for a costume part - it just gives you another one instead.
Like if you already have the gloves, and then you get another costume card that would have been the gloves again, the game won't switch the costume card for another drop type - it'll give you another costume part instead - which means that the more parts you have, the more likely you are to get the missing parts.

Not spending anything since paragon points are not being properly awarded.

So what your saying then is if one wants this costume bundle it's gonna cost them roughly 2 to 3 times what a normal costume bundle cost, on a good day. Lordy lordy my eyes are open I see the light HALLELUJAH!

Nope sorry still a scam.
