Discussion: A Death Revealed....
Well in true comic book fashion, I must now ask the question: is this a permanent death or a typical comic book death where there is a loophole somewhere that will allow his return?
Also how will Recluse take this? If anyone should kill Statesman it should be him,in his opinion, and now he has been deprived of his goal. That will make for an unhappy Recluse I would think.
Also we are presuming that Statesman isn't going to fake his death and disappear for a few decades so that he can be left alone.
Spoiler Alert.
Infernia is the contact for part 7 of WWD. Take that how you will.

So, I'm guessing that Recluse is going to be spending a lot of time in his tower, alone, moping and/or eating Hagen Daz.

It is what it is. But given this, why don't we...
...Go seek out as many different races as we possibly can, and recruit all of their WELLS so they can fight the Battalion simultaneously? It seems so darn obvious. Which means we probably won't do it.
|

Um, it doesn't really matter if there is a spoiler in the title of a thread in the forums when it is on the FRONT PAGE of the website, right there for anyone to see. I don't even care about spoilers, but its pretty impossible for those who do to avoid it when its right in front of your face when you go to the website...
(though I'm guessing this will be a comic book death, and someone else is REALLY dying and by doing so will rez States).
The feeling is that impact of States dying is not in the reveal that he's dying but in the fact that he's dying. How does he die? What does it mean for the Freedom Phalanx and, perhaps more importantly, what does it mean for the future safety and well being of Paragon City.
There's a lot more questions to be answered and story to be explored, even after his death. And trust me, his death scene is pretty stirring. |
What does it mean for beating him up in Recluse's Victory?

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
What the Hell was the point of the mystery and build up for so long to just spoil it yourselves? That was stupid. Way to ruin something that could have been an awesome bit of storytelling. I guess CoH really is all about grinding to the end and skipping all the content, now.

SPOILERS:
As we know, if somebody empowered by the well dies, they're essence and powers gained return the well and then empower the next person who draws that power out. Zues powered, Imperious, who in turn powered Statesman. Each becomming more powerful than the last, because the most recent gains the powers of ALL that came before them in that chain of power.
If the person is ressurected then they will get all the powers they had back AS LONG AS another hasnt already claimed that particular chain of powers. Say he dies and comes back right away. He gets his powers.
NOW lets just say I dont know Pepsi man claims the powers of Zeus before States comes back. Pepsi would now have the powers of Zeus, Imperious, and Stateman, but States would come back as little old Marcus Cole.
Id say we have this all figured out.

Once it's in the game, it's an already happened.
Now, it's something that's going to happen. But how will it happen? What could possibly lead to the demise of Primal Earth's Champion of the Well? This approach is something that's been planned for awhile now, taking a cue from other famous, or infamous, comic book deaths. |
Grandson: What?
Grandfather: The eel doesn't get her...I'm explaining to you because you looked nervous.
Grandson: I...I wasn't nervous. Well, maybe I was a little bit concerned but that's not the same thing.
Grandfather: Because we can stop now if you want.
I'm sorry, I know this is how comic books like to do it, but it's still really, REALLY stupid. From the arc title to this sudden and premature death of all the fun speculation, I'm almost embarrassed every time I do one of these at how they're advertised. It's like the writers believe the core of the work is crud, so they need these ham-fisted gimmicks to sell it. Which is sad, because it's a pretty good arc that could stand on its own, IMO. If it had a normal name and no spoilers, what was going to happen in the next week or two was going to hit like a thunderbolt we'd all be talking about for months.
Now, well, it's one of the biggest moments in the history of the game lore and we've been spoiled on it, but barring any other "screaming eel" moments, we can at least wonder *how* it happens. Yay?

Firstly, if I'm playing my villain and its not me that gets the kill, I'm calling BS on the players being the focus of the game.
Secondly, can I have his Incarnate Salvage, and will it jump me right to Omega?
