Yes. You should have new sales every week. Aside from Beam Rifle, Street Justice and the Cape/Aura unlocks, I've been holding on to my points despite there being items in the store that I'd like to buy. If you had more sales, I'd be inclined to not only spend them, but buy more points instead of just using the VIP stipend.

Most of the items in the market are overpriced. I'm willing to plunk down $100 to get that big stack of bonus points, but not if I feel I'm not going to get my money's worth. The only things you guys have so far in the market that I feel are priced reasonably are powersets, costume packs, and enhancement boosters (though I'm against them in principle until you give a way to earn them in-game, so I won't be buying them). Other people will buy them at the current price, but having frequent sales is a proven way to make more money than you would have off of more frugal people.

1 a week isn't sustainable in the long run. Account Services being on sale is something special, reserved for special occasions, and we'll almost always try to tie it to something that's topical or thematic.

Putting items like character slots and storage increases on sale is a pretty big deal.

Dog really needs the Mastermind controls so that they can be RENAMED and MUST be listed in the pets window. And selectable with maybe some sort of interaction commands with the pets. I understand this is a new item but future items like this NEED features like this to be worth the price.

I'd gladly pay 500 PP per pet if they could be renamed and interacted with.

Nein. Not going to get it, the price is too damn high.
This is me too. Can't be used with walk + costs way too much = Another pass from me.

I'm not against buying fluff but not at these prices.

We won't have an item discounted each and every week. We're certainly aiming to have discounted items on a regular basis, however it's not going to be every week.

The only reason to buy a dog pet is if it actually does something.

1. Attacks bad guys on command.
2. Fears bad guys by barking at them.
3. Jumps on target and knocks them down.
4. Takes a leak on target's leg on command.
5. I can throw a ball/frisbee/cat and it retrieves it.
6. It can pull my fallen body out of agro range when I get taken down. (Hey Rin Tin Tin could)
7. Barks at hidden/stealthed enemies and makes them reveal.

Nice 4 leg rig though. Seriously this is like releasing a single passenger car with a top speed of 10 mph when what the customer is looking for is at least a mini-van which will go 65-75 mph and carry a soccer team.
"Proof of Concept" ... excellent ideas for implementation.

It's a matter of preference. We know we're not going to hit 100% of the people 100% of the time. What we are doing is keeping track of what sells at what price and in what numbers. This, combined with direct feedback, is helping us develop a sound business strategy moving forward and to more readily anticipate what you guys would like to see offered.

I'm honestly a bit baffled by all the cries of "WHY ARE YOU NOT SELLING US MORE AWESOME THINGS" when just a month prior it was "WHY ARE YOU SELLING US AWESOME THINGS SO FAST?!"

I'm also not understanding this sense of entitlement of every week should be offering something new and amazing and should appeal directly to 'me'.

It's just kind of baffling that people are upset about the *kind* of content. "I DON"T WANT TO BUY THIS. RARGH" is just... beyond me >>

My complaint with the dog is that it's simply overpriced, not just based on what it does but on past precedent (MVAS pet). Regardless of it being the shiny new rig or the first ever dog in paragon City, it's still nothing more than a vanity pet, which we already have a price point for, just like we already had a price point for Auras with the Autumnal path. This is simple economics.

If the market offers something that isn't appealing, I just wait another week. So far the worthwhile offerings have been month to month, I'm not sure where people are getting that every week is supposed to be something big and new and shiny. I mean if you guys really just want to give the company your money then buy points, don't wait for something worthwhile to buy, they'll have your money and you'll have the points to buy the awesome stuff when it comes along. Don't just sit and rage that 'omg there's nothing I want to give you money for this week >:X"

I'm just disappointed there was no rotten fruit temp power this week.

Because I'd be up for that this weekend at the Meet and Greet during the various panels.

After my disappointment settled down, it gave way to apathy.

Hopefully the dog will give way to better powersets.

I just want to make sure you guys know that for the cost of the two Enhancement Inventory increases, 40 more pieces of salvage, or 20 more recipes, I can buy a brand new game. I'm doing that instead of buying them. Got a new one today that just came out (I even got a $10 discount on it for pre-ordering it, so it was the cost of one of the enhancement inventory increases and 10 pieces of salvage).

I'd love to give you guys more money, but the prices on most of these items are crazy. I know that people are buying them, but you're missing out on money from more people.

Ditto here with the targetable and renamable too along with inherit controls like an mm for like fetch eat, attack heel follow stay go-to. Maybe more animations like sniffing ground, ear moving listening stuff. Rolling around, occasional barking here and there. But not have it where you have to totally maintain like feed etc. that would be blah.
And yeah the customizing of colors and maybe not like create a vet pet for every breed but have an option in costume to put the skins of breeds there that would cost less than making an entire new vet power.

<shakes head>

Has anyone in Marketing there ever done *retail* marketing? Because what you are describing is a huge marketing fail.
  • Sales moves slow moving 'inventory.'
  • Sales encourages people to try out consumable items they wouldn't ordinarily use, and thus can hook them on it such they they'll continue to buy it at full price.
  • Sales drives people to the interface to see what's on sale and thus encourages POS impulse buying.
  • Sales make the company seem generous and eager to please and creates customer goodwill.

Marketing and advertising for retail, which is what micro-purchases are, is a different creature than marketing and advertising for subscriptions.

Not having something new on sale on a consistent basis is not good for your bottom line.

Base items please.

Many great art assets are in the game already, tell them that those pool tables, fountain/hot tubs (like in founder's falls, one of them is even already steaming), juke boxes, pinball machines, beer taps, paintings, heck even some of the car models to make a garage.. you could sell tons of base items and and I believe many of us would snap them up at the right price.

Also, adding in a base item as a reward from some missions, so that the market is not the only place to get base items, would spice up (re) playing some missions. Yeah, I want another mech-bot from that council arc to stand in the corner, or that bit of Cimmeroran statuary that I brought back, etc.

This is extremely over-priced for a non-combat item that can't be used with other "vanity" pet toggles (whoever came up with that particular idea should be smacked upside the head) and buff pets.

I feel it's only fair to point out that you are a cat person rather than a dog person, so getting you to buy a virtual dog pet I would suspect is no easier than buying one in real life.... =)

That said....

I have to admit, that although thematically I do have at least one character that a german shepherd would really add a great touch, still gotta admit that it's price is far too much to justify for a mere accessory.

The only reason to buy a dog pet is if it actually does something.

1. Attacks bad guys on command.
2. Fears bad guys by barking at them.
3. Jumps on target and knocks them down.

7. Barks at hidden/stealthed enemies and makes them reveal.
Now that's a really cool idea for a new power set perhaps...the usuful pet.

I like 2, 3, 6, 7 in particular,
4 could be some sort of debuff and you could add a licking debuff. Maybe 2 should be growling fearing bad guys and add barking to taunt them. Of course, you would have to have your pet "stay" someplace you set them to be and effective tank.
5 - instead of fetching a ball, have your pet fetch an enemy (like tp enemy)

I think the idea of a dog pet is terrific, but I'm not going to get another "pet" that's not useful...not when I know I'll need those 500 paragon points for something else that's coming down the pike.

Sorry.

So, wait, you paid your Paragon Points for SJ and BR, and they got disabled at some point? That does sound like a problem.

If you're whining about not getting them for free, then nevermind and grow up.

Improvements needed on the dog:

1: Work with Walk power - we have a walk power and a dog power, only make sense to allow players to walk their dog, haha. Dog will probably need new walking animation as well.
2: Allow dog to growl and bark at enemies if player is attacking them. I don't want a dog to just sit there scratching itself while I'm wailing on enemies. Having it bark at enemies would also serve the purpose of non-combat-ness while at least giving it the appearance of showing some interest in what you do.

I guess I'll use this post to point out the reasonble (or oppositional....)

1. It's a vanity pet. Vanity, as you and others have noted. Fluff. People pay $45 more to have a red laptop instead of a black one and that's a tangible good. People pay more for a customized license plate (a vanity plate...)

1a. Vanity, like the party pack in City of Heroes, which has nothing more than a bunch of emotes.

2. Economics isn't necessarily simple. Price points are all well and good, but it's not unusual for the new shiny to come in at a higher price point initially. All of the big games released this past week are priced higher than just about everything else, but they will begin dropping in price soon enough too.

2a. New innovation usually requires investment which has to be recouped....

2b. Fortunately, early adopters usually aren't very price sensitive and therefore are willing to pay a premium to show off that new chevy camaro, amazon fire.....and vanity dog pet they just got.

3. The logic every one posts to support the claim that the dog is too expensive is ultimately trumped by the perfect information Paragon and only Paragon has available (and Z keeps referring to).

With that written, going forward market forces will dictate how soon, if ever, the price will drop.

I recognize that. However, I am trying to provide feedback as to how to convince me to spend points on the market, despite the interface.

At $20, an extra enhancement tray isn't worth it to me. At that price, Paragon Studios is asking me if that is worth more than a month's subscription (actually almost 2 months subscription as I use an annual renewal). At $10 for a costume slot is nearly the cost of a month's subscription on an annual renewal.

If the costume slots were sold as a set of 5 account-wide slots for 1,600 Points, I would snap it up instantly. At 4,000 Points for the 5 slots, they are "leave it on the shelf" items.

The MVAS non-combat pet is 350 points.

To put it in perspective:
  • I consider my baseline a full power set or costume pack to be worth 400-600 points.
  • Account wide non-combat items (vanity pets or transformations) should be 200 points or less.
  • One use buff items should never be more than 80 points, and probably closer to 20-40 points.
  • Items with extensive use such as extra enhancement storage should be 800 points.
See? I'm not calling anyone names, I'm not being overly excited (well except for the people responsible for the new pet toggle), and I'm calmly telling you what I consider to be reasonable prices.
