  1. It's been a fun few years of TFs....with sporadic breaks. I dinged my first two 50's (Slickhawk and Zolena Wren) on Horde Mondays as well as my last this week (Arbiter Salazar, popping in from Virtue). PUGing with you all has been one of the best reasons to play and I will miss this. Thanks to all and best wishes in the hunt for a new home.

A professional and timeless look. Note, however, that he has opted for more efficient (and less costly) sneakers, as ruining Italian leather shoes running into burning buildings and into sewers is just not a good return on investment. Also note that he has not sacrificed his vision to protect his anonymity - over his feature-concealing domino mask are his specialty prescription glasses. (He paid extra for the carbon protection after nearly catching shrapnel with the lenses, and glasses are just prohibitively expensive.)

Looking at that, "Geek Squad" comes to mind too, although I suspect that's taken. Also...thinking of calling someone "Geek Squad" is kind of like the band in Airheadz calling themselves "The Lone Rangers"...which is amusingly appropriate I think ( ' :

  5. VisiCalc jumps to mind automatically for a name -- have not done a name check for availability.

Edit: I see him as more of a dominator with Mind Control as a primary -- mesmerizing, (mass) confusing, mass hypnotizing and terrifying people with numbers....oh yeah. Secondary not determined yet.

Edit2: Perhaps with Thorny Assault for a secondary...a brain like his calcuates all of the projectiles' vectors with extreme.....precision.
  6. I'll be there -- toon to be determined. I may move my SoA (Arbiter Salazar) over from Virtue or else play Suava (TW Brute), Purr in the Dark (Claws Scrapper), or my most recently created Staff Brute, Drastic Fantastic. Basically, I'm bring damage - I'm cranky and intend to rip things up bad. I'll glaldly run a steamroll team.
  7. Virtue and Freedom are more than populated enough to run it during EST 6pm-midnight most days.
  8. I actually intend to keep archived copies of the current and beta clients....just in case. Other than that, yes, that's pretty thoughtless on their part.

Your OP is a bit, well.. "rambly", if there's such a word, but if I get the gist of what you're saying correctly, you're basically saying that you can't understand why CoH wasn't more popular than it was because it appeared to offer all the things that gamers wanted?
I think the point generally was, if you like your mmo game and want to see it thrive, evangelize it....although I'll add, don't be a fanboyish jerk when doing it. ( ' :

Monday I barely logged on to do anything -- I spent most of my time writing, but logged on late in the evening. There were few people no, nothing apparently happening, so I ran two costume missions for Eternal Sweeper and then called it a night.

Tuesday I logged in early enough to join an ITF on Storm Girl Ten. This got her from 42 to 43. But it was something of a disappointment -- it was advertised as a "kill what's in front of you" ITF, but after two missions a couple of the players decided that it was going to be a speed ITF instead, so they rushed everything, ported people to the ends of missions, and the leader said nothing about it. But as soon as Rommy was dead and the ITF was complete she quit, so it seemed she was upset. But when you don't say anything and you're the leader, it's hard to complain about it later. Anyway it was annoying -- set to +0, rushed through the second half, everyone quit as soon as Rommy dropped, no interest in doing the towers. That's not how I like my ITFs to run.

And you know what they say -- if you want something done right, you should do it yourself. Grimrose announced that she'd just hit 35 and was ITF capable, and Ragey Cat (who had been on the other ITF with me and was equally dissatisfied with it) was willing to run another, so I switched to my brute Megami Hime and started up another, a real steamroll ITF run at +1, where you really did kill everything you saw, and the towers after. Whisper and no hero joined too, and we had a lot of fun, and by the time we were done Grimrose's "last 50" had gone from 35 to 39.
I was actually with you on that second ITF as Arbiter Salazar. It took a little while to start up and the only reason I actually stuck around was because I recognized the "Soulfang" reference in your description and knew who you were -- glad I did as it was one of most fun steamroll ITFs I had been on in a while. Technically it ended Monday morning at ~10am EST, which would have been pretty much the traditional weekend event scheduling on the servers.
  13. I'm in -- hero tbd.

Also, for anyone interested, I'm looking to part with an Armageddon (Dam/Rec) and a Ragnarok (Dam/End Red). I've never been a marketer so I'm a bit cash-poor : 'p

PM me here, in game at @Texarkana, or in League chat tonight.

Quite frankly, seeing his samples, I could *not* pass up the prices - even when the exchange rate jumped around a bit. This is my newest 50, an Arch/MM blaster, Madison Longshot:

    Pros:

    • Just look at it....
    • Price. Another "This is seriously underpriced for this," AFAIC.
    • Fairly fast. We're not talking a day or a week turnaround, it does take longer, but this was commissioned less than a month ago. (I'm showing June 30 as his response. So... yeah.)
    • Lots of communication. (Including personal bits like a delay from getting sick.)
    • Process: Paid (requested 50% up front, I went 100,) poses, questions on specifics, final line-proof, and this.
    Cons:

Honestly, about the only thing I can say "con" is to watch the exchange rate, part of why I paid 100% in full as opposed to the 50/50 he requests for color. From when I first looked at him to when I commissioned, there was about a $5 difference (as I recall.) While not huge, it's there. Lineart is all up front anyway.

All in all, a fairly personable artist, again rather underpriced IMHO, and very pleasant to work with.

Just have to say --- WOW!

Financial Analysts would love CoH as the kind of stable option you mix into a portfolio with other risky options, assuming it was covering costs and then some (which one might assume if they also had people developing another game...i.e. covering a cost sink).
  16. Indeed. Thank you for all of your hard work -- it will all be missed. ) ' :
  17. I'll sign up as an alternate in the event someone can't make it and pop in at that time.

Either Suava, TW/WP Brute, or Shoshone Pride Beast/Time MM will be on.
  18. Are you looking for an observation window or a window view to the outside? For an observation window, the midnighter arc mission when you go see Argot BUrwak comes to mind.

Not sure about a view outside though.

This, along with their Q2 losses, can offset the very significant capital gains that they'll see from the GW2 launch, etc.

That valuation? It will without question be higher than any realistic offer they may have received for the CoH IP (low seven figures range at best). Corporations get away with shenanigans like overvaluing non-tangible assets for capital loss purposes all the time. They've probably valued all the Paragon City assets they're dissolving somewhere in the $5-6 million range (speculation on my part, please understand...). Not a chance in hell they received an offer anywhere near that.

I suspect you're absolutely right. I doubt they expected to even receive any, at least any that were close to the market value of the IP (to say nothing of the inflated tax valuation). All the furor probably took them by surprise. They've never shown much to make one think they "get" the Western market.

But in the end, this is a cold-blooded bottom line decision...and for all that I hate it, I understand it. Half a million or (maybe) a million...or five million or so in tax offsets? No competent executive would fail to choose the latter.
We'll know the exact valuation as soon as the next annual report comes out...

More brilliance from Joss Whedon -- I was blown away the first time I saw that play out. It's a shame that a Ripper spinoff/movie was never made.
