Pricey but I still want it. I'll wait for next month's supply of free Paragon Points to get this, so the price will slow me down, but I'll still get it.

Already bought the path and the halloween bits.

This is extremely over-priced for a non-combat item that can't be used with other "vanity" pet toggles (whoever came up with that particular idea should be smacked upside the head) and buff pets.

The MVAS non-combat pet is 350 points.

To put it in perspective:
  • I consider my baseline a full power set or costume pack to be worth 400-600 points.
  • Account wide non-combat items (vanity pets or transformations) should be 200 points or less.
  • One use buff items should never be more than 80 points, and probably closer to 20-40 points.
  • Items with extensive use such as extra enhancement storage should be 800 points.
not good with quoting but I have to say I agree exactly with these points! At these points I would spend these kinda points per item. I do LIKE the new model for the dog and can't wait to see the wolf, but not at 500, 200 or less would actually get my points. And when are the sales? I get that you can't do 90% off every week but even half off sale here and there?

...just sayin

I don't even need that much. 80 points ($1) off a 400 point item/set that I am on the bubble about buying (I'm looking at the CoT costume bundle) would make me buy it, because then I can turn around and spend those extra 80 points on an aura.

I wince at how resource-intesnsive the German Shepard must have been to develop, but dispair not. This model will serve as the basis for plenty of potential content that we will be VERY interested in. Everytime Paragon Studios branches out into another non-humanoid model I get a little more excited!

I just hope all you guys who are complaining that the "price is too high" for things like this vanity pet dog realize that for every one of you who are complaining there are probably like 5 or 10 people happily buying it for all those "too high" prices.

Paragon Studios is a company out to make money. They are setting the prices for these things at exactly the right points for them to maximize their returns. Sure we have seen that they have lowered the prices of a few things here or there, but the majority of the items for sale have stayed the same. What does that tell us? It tells me that there are plenty of people out there buying most of these things for the supposedly "too high" prices. Why on Earth would a business sell something for $1 when they have plenty of people willing to pay $5 for it? That's exactly what's happening here.

So if you're mad that the items for sale in the Paragon Market are too expensive don't blame Paragon Studios, blame your fellow players who seem to be willing to throw all their hard-earned money at it. *shrugs*

I realize that. My LOLs aren't directed at marketing alone.

In some cases those "early adopters" are the ones complaining that they've got ripped off. I didn't. * See edited note below.

It tells me two things:
  • There are a bunch of people that spent a couple hundred dollars buying up their Paragon Reward shrub and don't know what to spend the points on.
  • That the people setting prices haven't checked comparable offerings from competitors and set prices and effect duration to sell more.

I do. Some people have more money than brains, it seems. Then again, I suspect this initial "buy anything that gets made" will die down soon as the points from buying up the Paragon Rewards Program begin to dry out.

Edit:
* I did pay 120 points for the Autumnal path aura and do feel slightly annoyed. Do I demand a refund of the $0.50? No, but I'm going to be even more critical of how I spend points because of that.

This ^^^ ... every time I see one of those "take my money now" posts I want to reach through the screen and slap the plonker senseless.

Would you walk through a house for sale with a realtor saying "Oh I must have this house at any price" ?

Oh and 500 points for a non combat pet? Not a chance. 200 points and you might have had a sale.

Agreed.

I love the German Shepard pet, will definitely buy it to support the four legged rigs as soon as I can. Would be nice to have alternate colors for it, like a white or black Shepard. I see that people are presuming the rigs will come into play for future powersets and possibly other things like shapeshifting. This would be very nice, I agree on the mastermind set. Wolves, lions, and a bear would be nice, but there are a lot of things that could go into something like that, a bird of prey, a rodent, and even larger animals like rhinos or elephants. I foresee some very cool things coming in the future.

Well after the intial release the autumnal path aura was reduced to be in line with other auras, hopefully they'll follow the same wisdom and at least drop this down to the same price as the MVAS pet.

Seriously, it's not even about competitive pricing with what other MMOs offer, it's simply pricing with YOURSELF.

There seems to be a lack of sense with this sort of thing in design and marketing lately. First the new incarnate powers being gated for no good reason, then the path aura being more expensive 'just because'.

Not even considering what other MMOs are doing with their price models, you are contradicting your OWN BASELINE. If you put out a new product that is for all intents and purposes the SAME as prior products, then you make them cost *the same*. Telling us it costs more 'because it's special' is not a valid pitch. Telling us it costs more because it has extra features or it comes with a bonus goodie, *that's* acceptable.

As it is, it should not cost more than 350 to match the other vanity pet. And even then, that shouldn't be more than 200 for something that has no intrinsic value other than whatever feelings I can attach to it.

Which is a shame, 'cos it is really nicely made.

Would the "oh, it's an AWESOME dog, but it costs too much" players (here and in other threads) settle for an uglier, less detailed dog that only ran and sat for 250 points? Of course not, because then it wouldn't be nearly as awesome.

MOST dogs don't run at 35 mph, especially not at sustained speeds. Most of what I just Googled about Shepherds suggests high speeds in the low 30's. My husky mix, that used to want to pull me on Rollerblades could hit 30 out of the gate and then settled down to 25 or so for a half hour run. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are faster, but they're bred to run down prey.

I was just in Virtue's RWZ at 4:10 Eastern time and saw THREE German Shepherds running around. By the time the west coast player get logged on tonight and hit the market, I'm guessing it'll look like the "Working Dogs" part of the Westminster Kennel Club show.

This.

That's one of the big reasons I bought the dog, aside from being fond of the breed they picked. (My last pup out here in the off-line world was a black and tan Shepherd. This digital one's animations and sound effects would definitely have gotten the Shelby seal of approval. ^_^) I want to encourage the dev and art crews to experiment with new rigs and to play around with other things like this. I want to see what else they'll come up with using it.

Yes, for a vanity pet that doesn't do anything practical and comes with a bucket-load of limitations it's way over-priced... But I look at it as an investment. The price of a sandwich tossed towards maybe-someday getting an animal Mastermind set, or a mount-based travel power or even a shape-shifter AT.

Man, Paragon Studios is striking out left and right here. I'm starting to wonder if this is some kind of joke or something. Your market releases are just pathetically sad. You guys have been full of fail and lose lately. Week after week, you release crap, listen to none of our feedback and keep releasing crap. Then just for an exta laugh, you release a completely broken patch on top of that. You don't listen to our feedback, you don't read our bug reports, and you overprice the crap out of everything. Example: There's a SEVENTEEN page feedback topic on people VERY unhappy with your Gunslinger set, and there hasn't been a SINGLE dev or OCR response in that entire topic. It's obvious at this point that those feedback topics are just for show. That costume set will be released as is despite all our scathing criticism. This crap needs to stop. I've been here too dang long(since the beginning) to pack it up, but you guys are making it really hard to want to stick around with your boneheaded decisions and utter silence on matters lately.

Then there are 5 or 10 people that will see that price, think to themselves "too high", and pass on the item without ever saying a word. It doesn't require a majority to sustain this business model. Fewer customers willing to pay much more will buoy those that won't.

Why are the setting these price points? Because they're still fresh to the market is my assumption, as are their consumers. I know I spent quite a few of my points during that initial month and have felt some buyers remorse. Now that I'm buying extras with the monthly stipend (as opposed to the large amount given at Freedom's launch) I'm much more cautious with the points. How long until that sort of behavior comes through in the data?

No mad here. We'll just wait and see how things balance themselves.

Considering it's been well over a month since I got any points from my VIP stipend, I don't have enough to throw away on vanity items like this.

I was going to comment that US$6.25 for a non-combat pet is too high... but (while I definitely still think it's too much) I realized I would have paid that much without a second thought if the pet had been a Corgi instead of a German Shepherd.

Well played, evil marketing department.

I'm basically saving my points for a sale on storage myself. I'm not even picking up Titan Weapons at launch unless it's discounted like Beam Rifle was...

Do keep in mind that next Friday is "Black Friday," and the following Monday is "Cyber Monday," the busiest retail and online shopping days of the year respectively. I think we can look forward to some nice Paragon Market sales surrounding the two.

Shhhh don't say that... they will post their weird confusing excuse again with why the dog is 500 points for doing nothing... shhh...

Seriously disappointing. Where is the Pilgrim Hat?

No I will see my points When Titan Powers, Gunslinger Set and Pilgrim Hat come out Thursday or next week.

The pilgrim hat will be next week's release, nothing else, and it will be 300 points or something. :P And I'm only half joking.

Given that you can't gift points or market items...I'm not sure there'd be much reason for such a sale this year...
