I might question some of the places, but they did get #1 dead to rights.

Tick should be number 2. If it had lasted more than two seasons I would have put it at number 1.

While I love Avatar: TLA, I don't think it was based on a comic book (or comic book characters).

I personally was a fan of X-Men Evolution, though I know it takes flack from the diehards out there.

I'm taking it Batman Beyond doesn't count as it was animated before it was comic, right?

80s TMNT is on here but 2003 TMNT isn't? Man I loved that cartoon as a kid but beyond the initial episode arc it has not aged well at all.

Just so we're clear on the list:

10 - Avengers: EMH
9 - Archie (Various) & Josie and the Pussycats
8 - The Tick
7 - Disney's Ducktales
6 - 80's TMNT
5 - JLU
4 - Superfriends
3 - 60's Spider-man
2 - X-Men animated
1 - Batman: TAS

I can agree with most of the shows listed for being on this list. Their order, OTOH, could be different.

No doubt Batman: TAS should be #1. It's an iconic series and it works.

I can see, to a point, for the Archie/Josie listing. But I think a 10th rank would of been more than fair. Almost a similar reason for Ducktales to be on this list as well. Without Ducktales, I'm not sure the overall Disney animated block of that era would of been eventually done (capping with Gargoyles). Ducktales I would of put 9th on the list.

While I agree that Spectacular Spider-man and the 2003 TMNT are better series, I'm not sure you could of had their success with out the original series (or in Spidey's case, the longevity of the IP). Now having JLU (truthfully should of been the combined JL/JLU really) and Superfriends on this list sort of invalidates the above statement. But here again, there is, I think, good reason. Superfriends is iconic in it's own way. Outside of the Spider-man/Spidey & Amazing Friends, Superfriends was really the only lasting Super Hero stuff on the air in the late 70s - early 80s and such.

Not that it should've been something surprising, mind you. Sometimes things are the obvious choice for a reason.

I'm a little bummed The Tick only made #8, though.

I do see one glaring omission on this list. Granted not everyone is aware of their comic origins as they aren't in the USA or in English, but...where are the Smurfs?

As usual, one of these multi-page link-bait "Of All Time" lists really means "From the US going back to our editors' childhoods".

Honestly, leaving out "Astro Boy", among Osamu Tezuka's many manga/anime achievements, but including Filmation's third-rate animation for Archie? That's just ignorant.

2003 TMNT would never have happened without 80s TMNT... but 03 TMNT is better. Are we talking better or more important?

Cuz those are entirely different lists

BTAS is on both, but BTAS is also farther back on the list of important...but is #1 for best... american cartoon made from a comic

Toy line, actually. The comic books and the cartoon were developed about at the same time, though comic writer Bob Budiansky was instrumental in writing up a lot of the backstory and character bios.

The 80s cartoon didn't "start it all", the Turtles were a comic book first, which is the entire point of this list, so your point is irrelevant. Also I wasn't referring to the movie TMNT, I was just using the acronym because I didn't feel like typing out "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" twice. See how long that is? My fingers are exhausted (that's what she said). Anyway, both the 1987 and 2003 cartoon had this title.

Also the 2003 series bore much more resemblance to the comics than the 1987 series, so if you're really a purist, shouldn't you ignore the one that turned the Turtles into rad pizza dudes and quickly turned into a show whose only real purpose was to sell toys?

I will agree that the 80s show was more important (and a bigger hit) as it raised the status of the Turtles from indie cult comic book to pop culture icon status.

I don't agree that Batman: TAS is far back on the list of important, they did a lot of stuff that children's cartoons just didn't do back then. It was also probably the first children's cartoon that, for the most part, handled its subject matter in a mature manner (yeesh, say that 5 times fast). I can't think of any other cartoon before B:TAS that had nearly as much depth.
