/This.

Read the announcement thinking, hey nifty, now you can have those halloween temps year round. Of course, since they are just generic costumes for everyone... I've never really been all that excited about them. Then I saw how much the 'On Sale' price was.
My reaction.

Uncontrollable laughter...

I hope this amssive overpricing is a marketing experiment, from an interning server Hamster that was put out of a job when we switched to Unicorns?

My honest opinion is that these NPC costume powers should be in the same ballpark as individual costume pieces (ie. 40 points, give or take). Maybe slightly more for the rarer/exclusive ones like the convention codes, but not much more than that. Main reasoning is that it all comes as a single piece, there's no customisation involved, and customisation is the big draw to the appearance aspect of the game.

600 points is far too much, and I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry that $7.50 is the discounted price. But I suppose some people are already buying them, for whatever reason, so maybe I should just say "no thank you" and leave it at that.

At that price, anyone I see in game as a spectral pirate... Unless it fits the concept...

I'll try not to laugh directly at them, for long.

600 PPs/$7.50 for a single costume code that can be almost duplicated or seriously improved upon with the free tools in the character creator?...

... 20 PPs for a Global Shoulder Parrot option in the Character Creator and the rest of the look is already made.

I'm going to be nice and just say that every move you make right now is under a global microscope. Keep putting overpriced items on sale and we'll see where all of these new free/premium players are who are supposedly crashing down the gates to swell our ranks to the next level. We'll also see where all of the VIP Subs go.

(Not crying D00M, just simply putting it out there that this is an insult and a pretty good barometer of things to come.)

Confused. Purchased the costume thinking it was permanent. The power is listed under "Tempory Powers" on my Power selection and states (from the information window): " This costume will let you dress up as a Pirate at any time for the next two weeks."

Convention code costumes, which are permanent, are listed under Inherent Powers.
That looks like the details for the halloween pirate outfit. Might not be updated.

im gonna have to agree with everyone else, a vanity costume thing like this for 600 PP on SALE is overpriced

reasons:

  • purely cosmetic and actually hinders some toons due to their mutual exclusivity with stealth powers
  • can be very closesly replicated through the costume creator for next to nothing
  • can always just enjoy it for free during the halloween periods

the biggest issue i have with it is the first bullet, why in the world would i pay for something in which i actually cannot use if i have any form of stealth power (stalkers immediately come to mind since they cant even use hide with these toggled)

Tinkered with it because of the differences from permanent convention code powers. Not only is Pirate listed under and as "Temporary", it also provides an option to "Delete" which the convention codes do not.

Created a level 1 character, selected "Delete" then confirmed deletion pop-up with "Yes". The power icon in the menu seemed to disappear for a moment and re-appear. I dragged one convention code power and the Pirate power to Tray 1. The KoA worked. The Pirate did not.

I would not normally do that (purposely or accidentally confirm deletion of a power) on a regular character but have had the misfortune of having my cat button-mash me into chaos before and friends whose small children button-mashed them into odd new global names.

This is really the problem I have with the prices on the things. Beam Rifle was created from scratch, with awesome effects. We know powersets take significant development time. With the costume temps we have something that was already in the game being sold for the same price as a brand new powerset. These things are less useful than costume pieces, and they required no new art assets. They should be 40 points.

In fairness Marketing have probably seen some of the ridiculous eBay auctions of these things in the past and thought "Hot damn, we gotta get ourselves some of that action".

Unfortunately for them they didn't make the connection that most people I've read comments from found those auctions for a minor cosmetic power beyond ridiculous in the first place.

You know, if they priced these things reasonably, they'd probably find a lot of people going "why not? it sounds like fun." Especially since it's celebrating the whole talk like a pirate day. As it is, the price point is ridiculous.

Probably, but the differences are that those were for the convention exclusive ones, not the ones we get every Halloween, that people were willing to pay that much because of their rarity (these in the store have an infinite supply), and that going to those cons was more expensive for some people than the price being paid for the costume in the auctions. I actually paid them $20 for one that I missed when they were selling them at HeroCon.

I will never buy one of these at the current prices (including the sale prices). I'd buy several at a lower price.

.....No.

For every reason posted above here is a recap.

1. We can make better pirates with the CC as is (give us the shoulder bird)
2. This thing dose not work with stealth powers making it useless on a whole AT
3. It is purely cosmetic and only makes you look like an NPC
4. 600 PP and that's on "sale"

If this is your plan, to nickel and dime us for junk just so you can make a profit, its disgraceful. This is a money grab, and you and your marketing team should feel bad about it.

There is but one truth. Time is limited. ndnw its over

I'd prefer they try and nickle and dime us with terribad offerings like this rather than stuff I'd actually want.

At least I can laugh at this.

Gotta say, I have to agree with everyone else, this is absolutely horrible pricing. The costume powers are fun to play with, hell, I have a shapeshifter character who'd love to have access to all of them so he could have his ten costume slots and THEN all the NPC morphs, but for 600 a pop on sale, sorry but you're not getting a red cent. The currently offered NPC costumes are for the blocky, low-res, ugly old NPC sets. The decent/fun looking stuff like the Rikti costume, Meat Doctor, Ring Mistress, Victoria and all the convention exclusives aren't even offered. I'd pay 400-600 for a couple of THOSE. The rest of these little cosmetic powers need to be priced at 100-200 points each if you ever wanna sell them in meaningful numbers.

Gonna have to say sorta the same thing about the storage expansions. The cost needs to be roughly halved (or at least put on deep discount for a week) before I'll consider buying them. Global or not, you guys really need to look at what you're offering and realize that we're not dumb enough to give you ten bucks to look like an ugly ghost pirate.
