Please make that star belt available to guys.

This and other QA problems are why I let my subscription end.

Quote:What about the Steampunk and Gunslinger packs? Those have hard-coded yellow all over them. You want it to be totally black? Not possible. This actually made me decide not to renew my sub because I don't have faith in these things ever being noticed or fixed by Paragon Studios.Relax, guys.
There's every intention to make these fully tintable, with exactly 2 colors that you choose and that's it. But the concept's barely done, and 3D hasn't started yet. Kinda premature to be discussing details of an asset that doesn't exist.
I logged in to preview the gunslinger bits on my character, and was ready to buy the 12+2 month promo until I learned that I couldn't get rid of the yellow bits. Oh, and Resistance hair still doesn't attach to Huge heads; it just floats in space, and that's been going on for a year and a half. The yellow is here to stay. -
The unit I have is the exact one on the Future Shop page at the exact price, and it does indeed have a Geforce 525M with 1Gig of dedicated video memory. Future Shop isn't always accurate in their tech specs.
-
Quote:Yes, really.Brand new. Non-refurbished. Brand-name hardware with warranty. Really? Because if I put in your EXACT SPECS on Google Shopping or Amazon I'm not looking at anything under $780 before shipping. Granted I'm not about to waste the effort to go out and hunt at Best Buy, so I'll leave that possibility out there.
It's a Geforce 525M per the tech specs in the PDF below:
http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ.../10175890.aspx
http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=ht..._datasheet.pdf
And the brand outscores Apple for reliability:

Quote:The $650 figure is exactly what I paid for this laptop brand new without any sales. Keep looking, because you just lost $200 for nothing. For the record, I can't even do that with a PC. Just ran that gauntlet with my future brother in-law last month. His machine, which is just slightly below those specs (Geforce 330M card, 512 dedicated video, 4GB RAM) clocked in at $850.
Quote:getting the brunt end of every jerk on this forum just for using a mac.
I'm not telling you Macs are bad for you. I'm telling you Macs are bad for ME, that this is my personal experience, that this is why I switched to PCs, just as others in this PUBLIC discussion are doing. No, not everyone who dissents is automatically a troll. -
Quote:I said no such thing. I said their accessibility for the visually impaired is the worst I've ever had to endure, something which I consider important in an operating system, something which reflects attention to detail. Oh, they claim their accessibility is the best in the business and you probably get along just fine without those features because you don't need them. I hope you never do because they will be inadequate.Saying you hate Macs and everyone else should too, and implying that everyone else should too.

You might get your wish, as Paragon cuts Leopard support loose to focus on Snow Leopard and Lion. Although Leopard is only a 4 year old operating system, it's already been completely abandoned by Apple, as well as any computers that are incapable of upgrading to Snow Leopard due to arbitrary, forced obsolescence built into the code.
Yes, Leopard was only released on October 26, 2007 and already it's useless. In contrast, Windows XP was released on August 24, 2001, over 10 years ago. Machines running it are still able to play City of Heroes and use almost any other Windows software out there.
While you may be loyal to Apple, that sentiment is not returned to its customers.
Quote:I have a Windows 7 PC I built myself.
And fail me the PC does. Even though I did not cut corners with the hardware, it's extremely difficult to get reliable hardware even when it's brand name.
You could just as easily damage a Mac by handling its guts, if you decided to assemble one of those from scratch somehow. Would you still fault such a creation for failing? My point is, your experience with PCs sounds self-inflicted, and could have been vastly improved if you hadn't done it the hard way, if you had ordered a pre-built machine just as you do when you order a Mac. -
Quote:Baseless speculation. I'm curious: How did you deduce I lacked in-depth experience with Macs? I mentioned NONE of my history with them. There seems to be this misguided misconception that... if the stubborn PC users would only listen, would only give Apple a chance and try a Mac, they'd see the error of their ways. How predictable that the naysers in such threads always lack in-depth experience with Macs, though there are those who switch back to Windows after some time with OS X. (Also, the biggest bargain-braggers among the Windows partisans never seem to mention the manufacturer when boasting of how little they paid.)
But to seconding what CuppaManga say, the MacBook is overqualified for just gaming, but if you want to do more computing, it's great. Some people play CoH successfully on the MacBook Air, which is a nice little machine but not suited for intensive general use (e.g. simultaneously running a suite of business and specialty software - it's not a substitute for a desktop machine).
And bear in mind, Apple's educational discounts for students are very nice.
Okay, I have a dose of reality for you. The reality is, I owned Macs for a decade before switching to a PC. The reality is that most game developers don't bother with a Mac version. I wonder why that is? Here's a hint: It's not some arbitrary coincidence and it isn't due to hardware.
You stick your head in the sand by labeling and categorizing anyone who doesn't like Macs as trolls, as naysayers, as inexperienced, and as unenlightened, all to keep your delusion of Apple as infallible intact. "Oh, they aren't real people. There must be something wrong with them. Nobody could dislike OS X!"
Yes, people can and do. I stopped using Macs because they caused problems for me. I stopped using them because they were inferior for my needs.
As far as which manufacturer I went with, I grew out of the need to define my personal worth based on which brand of computer I surround myself with.
All you need to know is that my current Windows laptop works fantastic, cost half as much, has twice the power and does EVERYTHING I need. If there's another brand next time I buy a computer that does the same, I'll go with that brand instead, as long as it isn't a Mac; their accessibility (or lack thereof) for the visually impaired is the worst I've ever had to use.
No, inverting the entire screen doesn't equal high-contrast; it equals watching movies and flash videos in negative. I think the worst part of this is that they lie about how their accessibility is the best in the business. Merely boasting about it on their website doesn't make it true for the people who need it.
Edit: To the Mac zealots claiming I lack technical knowledge: Your assignment is to take $650 and try to find a Mac that has a second generation Core i5 processor, 6 gigs of ram, 750 gig hard drive and a Geforce 525M graphics processor with 1 gig of dedicated video memory. When you find a Mac with that much power, post the price for everyone to see. -
This is waaaaay too expensive.
-
I have had NO headaches with drivers, no shutdowns and no overheating with my brand new $650 Windows 7 laptop, which runs the game on ultra mode. Anyone claiming those problems must have last owned a PC in the 1990's, or bought an Acer.
I did look at Apple laptops when I was shopping around, but they offered half the computing power for double the price. Add to that the hassle of getting PC games to run on a Mac: Why bother?
If your goal is to play PC games, get a PC. -
Macs. Half the power at twice the price! You're doing it for hipster points. Don't do it.
-
I didn't want to mention Pong because, although it was my first, it was a second-hand machine and would have thrown guesses at my age off.

-
Expanded to? Heh. People in their 30's grew up on video games and never left. The Wii didn't get me into video games; arcades, my C64 and my NES did that.

I have a level 50 rad/mm and he's an AoE machine, but also has a solid selection of single-target attacks, so he's well-rounded.
Edit: One of the above posters mentions that most of the AoE attacks require you to enter melee range, which is very true. Just keep that in mind when you need to let loose a long chain of AoE attacks. Pop some purples or stick close to the tank. -

I really feel for the guys who got time off work. Paragon Studios, you screwed up big time.
-
I missed this sale.
Please have another before Freedom goes live? "One day only" was a very easy window to miss, especially being out and about due to the summer climate.

Good idea! Here we go:

Quote:There are window resize cursors pictured. Are those too small? They include vertical, horizontal and diagonal arrows. When you hover your mouse over the edge of a resizable element such as the Map, chat box, etc. you can click and Grab those edges to resize them. I can't recall if it changes to a double-headed arrow like it does in normal Windows apps or if it's something else.

I know it's been a long time coming, but I have good news for you all: You wanted larger cursors? Now you can have them!

Extract the zip to your CoX folder with the suggested path. If the folders do not exist, you must create them. Fear not! This will not alter your actual CoX installation (like Vidiot Maps). Exit the game, relaunch.
32-bit Windows:
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\data\texture_library\GUI\Cursors\
64-bit Windows:
C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\data\texture_library\GUI\Cursors\
Enjoy!

- Softened gradient found in black pointers.
- Slightly altered the hues of mouseover pointers.
- Added anti-aliasing to Hourglass cursor.
- Added shadow to Hourglass cursor.
- Added preview image and installation instructions to zip. -
If I had one wish granted in this game, it would be to have paths not take away my eye-glow aura.

Quote:Really?A lot of consideration and time has gone into the design of the store and it's different UI elements.
If it's the same person who designed the cryptic League buttons, the new Team UI and its misclickable X button directly above the "Friends" list link, and the maddening Auction interface, we're in trouble.
The Auction scrollbar (among other interface elements) is STILL 0 pixels flush against the "GET" button for items you have spent good Inf posting for sale. It's incredibly easy to accidentally take an expensive item down and lose your deposit just by trying to grab the scrollbar.
