Hopefully we get the usual pre-release download after logging off the game for the day instead of everyone hammering the download into their systems on Tuesday

No. FREEDOM alters the directories of the files so that brand new players can get the character creator working while the rest of the game is downloading. None of the new file structures have made it to the Live build. And when it does, it will be a 2 Gig download.

Oh joy
Don't let it download or pre-download if you already have Beta or Test patched up. When FREEDOM is Live, you can copy over the piggs from Beta or Test and just do a repair....

theoretically.

It wasn't so much the waiting but the lack of any significant updates. Unfortunately a lot of the recent issues haven't offered much, IMO. I don't see much more in i21. A lot of fluff and it doesn't seem like a ton or wild new stuff to play. I didn't go into depth on the beta so here's to hoping i21 is a fun one!

Anyone hear of when we can start d/l on Tues? I won't have much time before I have to run to work in the AM.

I specifically tested this with my Test install last night and it worked. The patch from current Live to Issue 21 was 2.5 "Gigs". I put that in quotes because I think Paragon uses the mass storage definitions of Kilos, Megs and Gigs, 1000 rather than 1024. By the time that you get to Gigs on that scale, it's considerably lower than a true Gigabyte.

There hasn't been a pre-release download ever with NCSoft Launcher, and since the old updater is no more, I doubt we'll ever see one again.

I've tried to make this point several times over the last few weeks on other threads. I think it's just going to take a few Issues before everyone realizes that the NCSoft Launcher has changed how the whole download thing works.

It really fits to do this this month with it being called freedom. It is a month when freedom was was put to the test and came out strong.

Just so you all know, based on what's currently on the beta server, the game is pretty much useless for a Mac user at this point. In the Paragon Store half the type is missing or unreadable, prolonged use of the Paragon Store crashes the game for many if not all of us (that couldn't really be tested very well during beta as for most of the time we could not access the store at all) and lastly the NCSoft launcher will not start the game again after you use the Paragon Store, unless you dig deep into the guts of your folder system and throw out your COH Beta Preferences folder (yes, that also resets all you finely tuned graphics options to the default).

Over in the Mac forums (a friendly place that few ever visit) we were assured by Zwillinger that Freedom would not launch with this issue in place. This imminent release date puts that assurance in doubt.

I know that this probably does not matter to most of you at this point (and frankly I'd be thrilled too if it weren't for this problem), but I just want you to be aware that this announcement is not all sunshine for some of us.

And yes, there are still 4 days left to pleasantly surprise us with a fix, but as of now, based on a post by Zwillinger (who kindly has kept us in the loop), there is no solution in place yet.
I am a mac player too. And I am very sad that no one seems to care that much about us.
It's not that no one cares about you and your fellow Mac players. I'm quite sure if the Devs of this game had a magic wand and could fix all the Mac problems instantly they'd do it.

The fundamental problem you're dealing with is that the Mac client users only represent a minority of the total population of players. I'm not going to pretend I know the exact percentages, but I can comfortably guesstimate it's far less than 50%. Being the minority in something like this is bad enough from a "Dev attention" point of view. Now couple that with the fact that the recent Mac client problems have probably taken up a hugely inordinate amount of the Devs' time and effort over the past few weeks. It is quite literally the "squeaky wheel" of this game which has siphoned away far more of the Devs' energies than it could ever reasonably justify from a cost/benefit point of view.

Long story short: It was taking far too much time to fix given the relatively few number of players who actually use it. From an engineering point of view it became the obvious candidate to de-prioritize in order to get the rest of the show on the road.

Now I'm fairly sure the Devs are going to continue to do their best to get this "problem child" up and working ASAP. But to be perfectly blunt despite what Zwillinger said it seems pretty straightforward to me why they couldn't afford to waste any more time on it prior to Issue 21's launch. Hopefully it won't take too long...

I'm really, really worried about what the prices are going to be for the Paragon store. We've heard some things have changed, and some things have not. I see there are "Sales" going on for items so far, but none of which I had hoped there would be a sale on. A few things from the old prices are so amazingly expensive, that it doesn't seem worth it in the least, and I'm praying some of those went down in price to make them actually affordable and worth the cost of actual money, and not that I have to wait 14 months just to get enough, and nothing ELSE just to get them.

I love everything about Issue 21 and Freedom, just the old prices scare me greatly, and I truly hope the new ones are worth it. I'd hate to have to leave the game, on the ideal that all Paragon Studios cares about is $5 and $10-ing people, rather than nickle and dime-ing.

As far as I'm concerned any issue that doesn't fix the AE filter is "meh" at best.

You forget network effects.

My spouse plays on a Mac, period. If something cannot be played on a Mac, without dual-booting, we cannot play it together.

So even though I happily build dedicated gaming hardware for my games, my two accounts are contingent on the Mac port existing, as are the accounts of a couple of our other friends.

I know ncsoft is, in general, stupid, but I do not think the decision to get a Mac client running was an example of that stupidity.

You should ask Positron... Whoops! Sorry, under the new filters, that name is no longer allowed. :P

We have to pay for beam rifle ?

If this is for the windows client players, when will the Mac client players be able to log in. I would guess something around similar to last time 10 days later I guess, on Sept 23?

I'm quite sure the problems with the Mac client will affect a statistically significant number of people. That is a "bad" thing in general. I just don't think (given today's announcement of Issue 21's launch as evidence) that those problems are going to affect enough people to continue to justify any further delays.

It's an unfortunate situation but I suspect the Devs have taken into account the possible impacts and have determined what their "lesser evil" is, at least from their point of view.

The NCSoft Launcher -is- capable of pre-release downloads, I play another NCSoft game that uses that capability of the Launcher, but I'm not sure that it's compatible with CoH. It would be nice if they started using that ability of the Launcher.

Well, didn't expect this for next week. Looking forward to seeing the new prices in the market.
