East Coast Quake

Lol.

This is interesting, I'm suppose to fly to D.C. in few weeks. Hope nothing severe is going down there.

Then again, I heard a hurricane is going to sweep east coast of Florida "off the face of the earth."

So.....cheers!

Yikes!

Looks like noone was hurt, and thankfully that doesn't appear to be the norm.

Something to keep in mind that an earthquake can happen just about anywhere. There are faults capable of 7s even on the eastern seaboard.

The biggest risk in the Midwest would be another New Madrid event.

Maybe a relatively small event, but a wake up call since there are nuclear reactors all over the place too.

Stay safe folks.

That's @Kempie 's car in the middle, the one with the brunt of the damage. David Muir just showed that entire video on ABC.

I was sick in bed, asleep, at the time of the quake. I'm only about 100mi or so away from the epicenter, and I didn't even notice it.

The only thing I had to suggest that there was something wrong was when I woke up an hour later and tried to make some phone calls and kept getting messages that all circuits were busy.

Another Midlothian here (seriously? what are the odds??), was working in the kitchen at work when it happened. Customers in the lobby were freaking out. At most it was a loud rumble, but nothing vibration or sound wise worse than what you'd expect being near road work. It did knock out cell coverage for the area it seems, for about 20ish minutes.

It rates as a "meh" on my awesome meter. Maybe if I wasn't up to my eyes in food needing to be made with my coworkers spazzing out and a manager in a fetal position on the floor I could of enjoyed the event a little.

To right the countless wrongs of our day, we shine the light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise. What a wonderful world such would be....

I'm sorry what was that, I couldn't hear you over my TRAGIC PAST!!

However, there are very few reactors in the Midwest that would, even with a seismic event like the New Madrid quakes of 1811/1812, be inundated by a tsunami.

Didn't even know about the quake until i was leaving work. i work in Connecticut, so it wasn't very close to the epicenter. With assorted power tools going and a compressor that vibrates the building slightly by itself no one in the shop noticed the quake at all.

In Wake Forest, NC - it was noticeable, but nothing big. It lasted long enough for me to wonder why the wind had picked up so dramatically, and then to realize it wasn't the wind. Just when I was thinking, hey, earthquake, it ended.

And the dogs didn't freak or anything. I kinda wished they had.

I know this is standard fare for you West Coast folks, but very unusual here.

BTW, hope everyone is okay nearer to the epicenter down south.
Felt it here on Long Island near JFK.

The building where I work shook for about 15 - 20 seconds. Freaky stuff!

Yea, the one earlier today was about 5-6 miles from a reactor that was juuuust rated to withstand an earthquake of that magnitude.

Incidentally, I missed the earlier big quake but I managed to feel the 4.2 aftershock we just had.

Make it as far south as western South Carolina. I was in my basement office when it happened. The floor started, uh, "wobbling" might be a good term, and felt like I was moving on the bed of a springy pickup truck. Remembering we live about 30 minutes from the Brevard Fault Line, I turned to my coworker and said we needed to get out. He didn't believe me that it was an earthquake. I don't blame him. In 44 years I've never felt one here. I was impressed when I later learned it was from all the way up in Virginia and not the Brevard Fault.

That actually makes 3 of us. Weird, eh? Maybe Anti-Matter (Posi) put something in the water akin to the stuff Cole uses on his citizens.

Maybe we should check further and see if there are enough of us in the Virginia vicinity to justify a meet.

Checking in as yet another Rockvillian bemused by our 30-second trembling of the foundations of heaven. I know and called plenty of folks working for various governments and a lot of them were forced to mill around outside of their closed-off buildings for an hour or so of fantabulous weather before being sent home.

Long term consequences may indeed be serious, and Turg's video is nothing to laugh at, but so far it's been pretty inconsequential for a nearly 6.0 quake.

*knocks wood*

Stay safe, folks!

New Jersey here. I didn't actually feel the quake (I was driving), but several of my coworkers did and the theme park I work at shut all the rides down for a while afterward.

Mississauga Ontario Canada here, (Just outside Toronto) and I felt it in my apartment 12 floors up.
I was sitting on the couch and it felt like the building was swaying in the breeze. My 5 Month old was looking at me confused. So I told him that was his first earthquake and to be thankful we aren't near any significant fault-lines!

I think my horse felt this coming just before it hit - I was brushing him down, and he went totally still for like a minute before the quake hit.

Oddly enough, my dog remained quite calm, before, during, and after the quake. To the point that I actually made it a point to check to make sure she is okay. The last one we had she got anxious shortly before it hit.
