Rocket Boards?
Oops?
Oh, and Flying Shark Rocket Boards? SECONDED. WANT. Want NAOOW!
Any possibility of getting a Super Speed variant where we ride a motorcycle? I did a drawing of a Nemesis Force Bike that I can post - I think - if that would help convince you...

Even against certain death, it matters not how or if we fight, only that we do.

The complication with this idea is making it look right. You have to remember that this would just be a model added on to the power, it would not have any unique movement qualities of its own. So it would move just like the character can move, much of which would not make sense. Strafing is physically impossible on a motorcycle, and the way your character can shift directions really would not be possible on a motorcycle. Yes, we play a game that is all about suspension of disbelief, but there are some basic lines that need to be maintained.

Strafing on foot is the same as power sliding on a bike. Don't believe me, watch some euro motocross and they'll shoot that thought down. But I do agree with you in general. It wouldn't be easy, and it might be limited in it's implementational capacity, but hell, it'd be REALLY REALLY COOL.

If say, Batman (among others) can have a one-man 'SG base' and various insundry vehicles, then it'd be nice if we could follow suit in some fashion. I'll try to keep off this line of reasoning though since I think I inadertantly veered off topic...

As long as it's not flat and snowflake shaped.
Snowzone got there before I could. I have been waiting for an Ice Slide for a while, but the Frost path aura doesn't quite do it. The "model beneath the feet" would be formless, meaning that we can tell there is something there but it isn't necessarily solid (kind of like the Prestige Power Slide). Then it would have some sort of trail after it, probably like the Frost path aura (to save on animation creation time) but it would work in the sky unlike the current Frost path aura (only works on the ground).

The problem with an ice slide is that it's intimately and definititively linked to Iceman. And off the top of my head, there's no clear way to 'make it our own' and maintain the original concept. Not exactly the lowest hanging fruit, but I never say never.

I agree that it's pretty iconic of Iceman, but there are some instances of other supers using it...sorta. Steve Jackson Games, GURPS Supers, had an NPC female super called Icepick who used an ice slide to fly. Maybe she's to obscure to count, but I certainly noticed

In a less Iceman look, I could also see frost characters floating around on a chunk of ice that's giving off a lot mist. Not as "logical" as an ice slide but heroes and physics are archenemies anyway.

Remember: Guns don't kill people; Meerkats kill people.
As for Ice Slide, would the Ice Path aura and Hover not cover that? If not, it SHOULD!!!

You're definitely not alone. I have two high level characters who use ninja run as their travel power and one that uses beast run (well, she's not high level yet, but she will be.) I know plenty of other people who use them as primary travel powers aswel on some of their characters.
Ninja and Beast Run are NOT the sole domain of the under L14 crowd, sir. I have an Incarnate already who has Beast Run as his sole travel power. With two L50 Run Speed IOs in each of Swift and Sprint, plus the +7.5 Run Speed unique Defense IO, he nearly equals a Super Speeder.
I may be the exception to your 'rule' but I know I am not alone. Flipping off of rooves in the Rogue Isles especially is visceral fun. So could you please circular-file your assumptions? |
Actually the notion that people consider those as 'low level substitutes' is new to me. In combination with sprint they're plenty fast, if not as fast as super speed, but that's easily compensated by the added amount of vertical movement.

actually Champions pulled off this very thing quite well. proof that it doesnt have to be exactly like Iceman's to work

I love that you will at least entertain an idea! Admittedly, the "copyright infringement" idea had occurred to me, considering that Iceman's ice slide is a very specific mode of transportation (pretty much exclusive to him) as opposed to, say, flying.

In that case, perhaps a variation on the previously suggested rock-surfing idea: A chunk of ice, perhaps with similar geometry as the Ice option of the "Elemental Shields" in Shield Defense. Then it could have a trail tagged onto it, some happy medium between the Vaporous aura, Cryogenic aura, and the upcoming Light path aura. I know that still isn't very "low hanging fruit" but is that any more feasible?

Well I like the ice slide (and other types) saying "Marvel can't sue us because another character uses it" isn't exactly a compelling argument, especially when you don't know if there was a deal behind the scenes to allow it)

That's actually a lot easier/more feasible than broomsticks, etc. If the stance animations remain the same, all we'd really have to add would be new models to go beneath the feet. Should be very doable, so please let us know what would be your top requests for alternate flying devices.

- A big chunk of rock
- A big chunk of ice
- If possible, an ice trail like Ice Man 'surfs' on
- An energy trail, something as simple as Prestige Power Slide but flying would be neat
- A flat, plain, metal disk
- A surfboard
- A broomstick could work if the feet are positioned right for it?
- A missile/rocket/torpedo thing
- A manhole cover and/or trashcan lid
- A shield (maybe even access to the full shield customization options? Pretty please?)

Being serious, I can see the problem because, although it's pretty much Iceman's thing, it's also pretty generic because it's something we can do (albeit badly and only on the ground) on an icy day. Maybe do it like how another superhero MMO goes about it but, of course, better. Maybe with less of a disconnect between the floating shard of ice and the cold trail and using the already present slide run animation. To me that would look enough like sliding even though all that's happening is pretty much the same as the Rocket Board.
But there is also Frozone, he slides like Iceman but he also skates, and creates skis and snowboards out of ice so there could be that too.

Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
Fixed that for you. pohsyb hasn't been with Paragon Studios since ... officially at least ... March 2011. He checked in his last code at PS on February 18, 2011. His first day at Apple was March 7, 2011.

The Rocket Board and broomstick concept had me thinking about standing /sitting on a rocket or missile, kind of like World War II Nose Art. But... yeah, I agree, that'd be hilarious if it random-walked and blew up after disembarking. Cool idea!

Too bad this won't be a power pool. I'd love a beam / missile ranged attack to be available to fire from the board. And / or a board-blade melee attack?
Or would that be too reminiscent of Goblin? Because other IPs out there have used that idea. So it doesn't seem to be exclusive to him.

No car! No horse!!! They have said many times that they will not make them. The city is to crowded for such things.
Stick to what ideas they asked for, something that can be used with a common stance. |
You're right. They did say there'd never be vehicles.
I guess we'll have to put that in the "Never gonna happen" closet with color customization and two-handed weapons.
Ice/Ice Blaster. Dedication to concept is an ugly thing.
Claws/WP Brute. Sex without the angst.
Every CoX character lies somewhere on this spectrum.

You could do it, Disney and Pixar did it with no issues that I am aware of in The Incredibles. Lucius Best / Frozone. But then, you don't mess with SLJ.
Didn't stop champions online from having iceslide. Or any of the other travel powers such as grappling hook (batman).
