Rocket Boards?

It's a purchasable premium power, as I understand it. And it would be awesome, if you could use powers while riding it. However, sources say it grays out all your powers like the Walk toggle does.

Yea, that's too bad really. :/ I would definitely get it if it was an alternate form of flight. But as a pure cosmetic power most likely not.

It does make sense though, since it would require a new version of every single animation in the game. Lots of work for a single power.

Wow that sucks... Probably wont get it now =(

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

I wouldn't think so since most animations don't require much leg work. Leg movement differs during flight, so i figure they could just lock the legs to the board during most attacks. And it should work the same way of going from atk animation to stance on board like ninja run and beast run do. Imagine how badass Hail of Bullets would look while locked onto the board.

If I remember correctly from SDCC, where I was playing with it once the character I'd created reached Atlas Park, it's one of the Paragon Points tier rewards, available at level 2. It feels as if it has about the same speed, or a little less, than Fly if you get it at level 6, but it does have the downside that it appears to take all your concentration to use it -- you can't use other powers while you're flying on the rocket board (i.e., it's like Walk).

Martial arts might look a little silly though.

I always figured that if they made a stand-and-ride-glider type power that they'd use the Prestige Power Slide animations with some sort of platform attached.

It's neat that they did something all new instead, but at the same time it's not very useful.

Why? People don't take fly for combat, they take it so they can avoid combat while they travel between missions.

I guarantee that if there wasn't Hover people would use Fly in combat (more often than just accidentally leaving it on when they should have switched to Hover).

Hmmmm... grays out powers like walk. I suppose it has to have significant downside compared to regular fly.

I'm fine with it making click powers unusable but why does it have to undo toggles? If it's a code issue I understand (but wish they'd find a way to get around it) -- but if it's a decision thing, then why???

No argument there but we do have Hover.

Makes sense to me. It prevents people accidentally activating powers and prevents people from using powers that the devs don't want active at the same time as Rocket Board.

Walk suppresses all powers so there's already a precedent for it in the game.

So it's true that we're going to be able to take flight at level 6 now? Are any of the other pools like that, or just the travels?

I think the play testing and quality control stuff is the killer. You never know which animation is going to cause serious clipping, or otherwise conflict with which combination of weapons.... etc...

If there's a problem, then they'd have to fix it, which would definitely take work. Can't just withdraw content after it has been presented. Not without much kicking and screaming.

Only if you buy the vet reward that unlocks it.

Most of my flight characters use fly all the time (hover during combat obviously), also for travel inside missions. This is a lot more tricky without toggles, self heals or other defensive poweres available.

Rocket board might so cool that I'll get it anyway, but from a practical viewpoint it's useless to me.

I thought tha one of the changes with Freedom was making it so everyone could take the first there powers of any pool power at level four.

Yes, but since we don't have a Rocket Board version of Hover, your prior point becomes meaningless within the context of this thread.

If that's true it's the first I've heard of it. Also if it's true I have to wonder what they are going to replace the City Traveler vet reward with since being able to take one of the first three powers at level 4 makes being able to take a travel power at level 6 useless.

The same reason as it makes clicks unavaible. Animations. The toggle on animations still would need to be adjusted if toggles were still allowed.

Maybe it'll be that those with City Traveler don't have to have 2 Powers picks for the tier 4

Now that you have the tech for that, can you make a Broomstick power?

Still @Shadow Kitty

It's true, it was mentioned at comic con I believe.

City traveler vet power goes away in the new paragon rewards system.

Now that is an awesome thought. I LOVE the idea of adding new travel powers as often as possible for a couple of reasons: a) players clearly love 'em and b) it diversifies the big picture vista of the city at any given moment. With new additions like Beast Run, Rocketboard, and the energy contrails produced by the Celestial Armor wings, we're really starting to see a lot of color and variety in the way heroes and villains travel. To me, that's exactly what a City of Heroes should look like, and the more the merrier.

So yeah, broomstick would be killer. And by the way, it's not that there wasn't tech to support Rocketboard; rather, animation time was the major consideration. Would be very curious to ask the animators about the possibility of broomsticks now...
