What is a 50 supposed to do if there aren't enough people for Trials?
Outside of the Alpha slot there is no way for you to craft what you need oustide of the Trials and even that process would be slow and tedious..
My suggestion to you is this.. Find out the best global channels for your server. That is usually where the action is. Go to the Pinnacle forum here and find out the better globals and where people tend to meet for things like trials.. Some servers use Pocket D.. Virtue tends to use RWZ.. some people use the Midnighters Club.. I have rarely found a server that is totally dead.. Maybe some have smaller populations but there are most likely people on the server..
After you run a few trials and you get the hang of how it goes dont be afraid to start one yourself using the global channels to recruit. This is what I am going to do because I dont want to wait forever for one to start.. Many people simply do not want to start teams ( and I have been this way myself ) but usually you will pick up some experienced players who can help as well.
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.
If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-
Good suggestions if you can find the people. If the premise of the original question is true, the options are limited. A couple of suggeestions would be to go farm for purple IO/shard drops or work on your accolades. Badge hunting is another option. I work on my SG base or stocking it up with IOs for other heros to use. You could always start another alt to level up on the slow times.

I used to love CoH because whether you solo'ed or teamed, it was fun and rewarding, even if you just jumped on for a few missions. Now, unless you can gather a large group and a significant chunk of time... not so much.
Sad that the game has moved to this...
Before Alpha+, all my 50's did was run an occasional Itf, or collect dust. They're slowly adding an end game, and it's helped bring a lot of my toons out of retirement.
As for solo, just make sure to run the arc in ouros. Once alpha's unlocked you can slowly get shard drops from mobs as long as they're your level or higher. The WST is nice for smaller teams, and after you slot up Alpha, you can start breaking new Notices down for 40 threads to use towards the other 4 Incarnate slots.

Second, _nothing_ has been taken away in the year you have been gone. Go do what you used to do before the incarnate system.
Thrid, Pinnacle is my home server, and at the times I log on is usually the fourth or fifth most heavily loaded. Join the PinnBadges channel to get in on the action.

Enjoy the game that's still here. It's not going anywhere. They're still sprinkling in some new arcs and TFs every issue as well. If you've been gone for a year, check out the new Admiral Sutter and Mortimer Kal TFs. Levels 20-40. I believe there's a couple new story arcs out as well. Check those out. Then just return to what you were doing with your friends. Only do the iTrials if you feel that's something you want to pursue. And if you can't get anything going on your current server, then maybe you should weigh your priorities: staying on your server where all your friends and toons are, or switching to a higher populated server where you can experience the new end-game. You have options, moreso than you did a year ago. And your options are only getting greater.
pinnacle is not dead at all, its lower pop than virtue and freedom and maybe a few other servers but its not dead. pinnacle is my home server also and almost everything is done through the pinnbadges global channel. might want to put that on your tab. last night i ran two itfs on two of my 50s, one baf and saw several more start up throughout the night that i wasnt able to make cause i was in the itf at the time.
as for what a 50 can do without trials. well you can work on a build, run itf which is alot easier to organize than a trial and you get incarnate shards for it to work on your alpha slot. run ae architect missions for tickets for salvage and recipe rolls and turn those into cash, i didnt even try last night and made 200 million on recipe drops just from running itfs so I can get my build right for my defender. if all else fails just go work on another character and run a few missions and watch pinnbadges till a trial starts up. like i said about 5 or more started up last night and i know one of them we didnt even get a full raid to run it so we were looking for more people before we ran it. there is plenty going on, sounds like you are not in the right channels to get in on the runs.
@Doctor Gemini
Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.
While the part of your post I cropped was all good advice, whether or not any server is "dead" depends on when you can play. I know how dead the normally higher population servers are in the wee hours of the morning when I can play (generally only Virtue has much going on), so I'd be surprised if the lower pop servers are very much better anytime other than prime time.

If speed of finding a team is the only consideration I do recommend Virtue and Freedom, it is normally quick and easy to team on either when the other servers are slow. I play on Pinnacle because I know the folks there. I use the player ratings for every team or TF I am on and I get to know who is who and how they play. On Virtue I was part of a SG, and got the same experience, but it has dwindled and now the only community I can say I really know well is on Pinnacle, so I almost always play there. The game is more fun for me when I play with people I know, even if it is only virtually.
As others have said, join the PinnBadges channel and I think you will see there is quite a bit more than just trials going on, even in the slow times you can often get something rolling by just calling out on the channel. Good luck and good hunting!
Also, as far as the trials are concerned, the Pinnacle "hang out" seems to be the Rikti War Zone. (I think some other servers might use Pocket D).
I am able to log in an get right into a league about 50% of the time just by logging in the RWZ.
And I am a very solo-oriented player.
ive been playing on victory for about 5 years now and not really had any trouble forming anything
i do with there were some alternate methods to getting the incarnate stuff because i despise the lag in the trials and how it screws you over if you dc because of said lag

Pinnacle is definitely not dead. Join PinnBadges, and I or another mod will unsilence you as soon as we see you there.

Question: Is Pinnacle dead?
Answer: No. From the way people use it, dead seems to mean that teams can't be formed, people can't be interacted with, and there is generally a feeling of emptiness on the server itself. In Pinnacle's case Taskforces, Trials, and regular and irregular mission teams are abundant. The catch? Joining these events are a *lot* easier if you join the Global Channel for that server's events (PinnBadges) and know when the peak time is.
Question: Is Pinnacle dead to me (A player who plays at 12:00pm CST)?
Answer: Perhaps. It varies between days, but most of the time very few events form up when I am on, and I end up soloing. It sure 'feels' dead to me.
Question: Is Pinnacle dead to me (A player who plays at 10:00pm CST)?
Answer: Certainly not! Every single time I log in, something is forming and people are chatting in the global channels. I have to beat the team invites off with a stick. Super Groups run multiple trials, people are out hunting Giant Monsters, teams are advertising for more members...it is glorious!
When I first started playing on Pinnacle I did so during my prime time which coincided with Freedom's. I felt like the server had very little activity even after I joined PinnBadges, however I later found out that the server just peaks at a different time. The community is great and the events are abundant, you just need to know where to look for them.
Also, I believe the developers have expressed an interest at looking into a solo advancement path for those who wont/can't/don't-like-to group if it is any consolation.

just as a minor quibble with your post, the "game" you refer to is exactly the same, everything you could do solo before, you can do now, it's just the new post lvl 50 stuff that changes the mechanics of the game. i agree that they need to get on the ball with an acceptable solo option for post 50 content, but what is here now in no way detracts from all the previous material.
Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

I, too, have a home on Pinnacle and have very little problem finding teams for level 50 content. About the only conflict I run into is if there is a Hami Raid or Mothership Raid running. On occasion they post the raids on the server forum. And you can also try posting there to drum up some activity yourself.

In what I consider prime time, it took me an hour to get a team going for a ITF on Victory when it was a WTF. To me, that's worthy of the "dead" tag. And yes, I used the known channels for the server as well. I would love to play there more, but it's frustrating to do so.

First, welcome back. You seem to be but one of many returning players, and that is a good thing.

He's saying that people who wish to advance their level 50 characters are at a SEVERE disadvantage if raids aren't an option for them.
It has f**kall to do with "the rest of the game".
You're both missing the point. He's not saying things are being taken away.
