another thing i havent seen anyone mention so far hockey is run lots of tfs and story arcs you havent done yet for reward merits. reward merits can then be used in one of two ways.
1) go to a merit vendor and you can buy some of those recipes for merits or
2) once a day, or every 20 hours you can trade in 50 reward merits and 20 million influence for one alignment merit which you can use to buy recipes just like you earned the alignment merits by doing tips. this tradein is available at fort trident also.
if you run tfs a few times a day especially doing the weekly task force every week you can earn enough merit rewards for that and generally if you craft the recipes you get from those tfs, obviously not ones you need, then you can sell those enhancements for the 20 million. i generally make 30 to 50 million a day just doing that. so every two days you can get three alignment merits to buy a recipe, plus some money to help you buy the others.
also when you are buying invention sets, look at the recipes for those enhancements also, alot of times you can get the recipes for cheaper than the enhancements and either run ae for tickets to buy the salvage or just buy the salvage, just check salvage prices to make sure you can get the salvage plus recipe cheaper than the enhancement.
hope this helps. -
I have a 50 plant/kin and he is very good, lots of fun and can solo pretty well. cant speak for other control powers but plant/kin was alot of fun for me to level up.

frostburnt-- those tfs will give you one of the pieces you need, but you dont need to run that tf to get that piece, you can convert shards also to get pieces, 4 shards for a common piece, 8 shards plua a common item for uncommon and so on and so forth. plus i think you get a rare the first time you do each of those tfs, I know I have gotten 3 notices of the well from itf, tin mage, lgtf, not for certain how those are isssued, but i got them. I would recommend running them if the opportunity arises but other than that just run a quick tf for shards to build your alpha, I run itf for that because it can be completed in under adn hour an you get a decent amount of shards.

when itf first came out i know we would seperate rommy from the nicti and beat him down. I cant remember exactly how we did it back then but i think one tank would pull rommie away, while a tank type character would keep the nicti angry at him and it was pretty easy unless one of the tanks were morons. you could try that if you cant just beat him down. i did it last night and there was one person wondering if we had the damage to take him down because we were controller heavy with either 3 or 4 controllers, but when we got to rommie he went down fast so yall should be able to do it.

yeah right now alot of people are playing the beta so the servers might appear to be lower pop than they really are, this should change pretty soon. also join pinnbadges, great place to find groups. I run something every night generally and i normally log on when i get home in the afternoons for 30 minutes or so to do market stuff and I see bafs and lambdas forming all the time around 1600 hours central time so there are people willing to do stuff, even low level task forces. normally you have to take the initiative to start something though. ive asked plenty of times who is interested in running something, got no answer, then I would say ok im starting taskforce x, send tell, get 20 responses. so start up something, pass leader once the team is together if you dont feel comfortable leading it. most people know what to do on most tfs anyway, its not like wow where the leader has to hold peoples hands to get them to do what they should do.

well i know ill be getting the enhancement slots simply to be able to craft and hold onto a set of enhancements without having to put them in my build before i get the set done especially if im replacing a set or something. didnt even think about the respec thing.
then probably market for me, then recipes considering i dont even fill my recipe bag up right now really before i go sell stuff. salvage and vault space would be last imo.
none of this is really needed for me, just more of a convenience and ill get them as I accrue the points for them. might spend a few bucks on them but I wont be spending a whole lot. im patient I can wait, and i doubt i will max them all out either way. -
hyper gave great advice though and that is run the build for a while and see what tends to be missing. I originally went the energy mastery pool on my invuln/ss and just didnt like the damage output i was doing vs the endurance consumption, when conserve power was running I had no endurance problems but when it wasnt I did. now this was back before i had a alpha slot and before the io sets I have, but still. I wanted more damage, so i respecced into fire, which gave me the damage, but started having some endurance issues at times, not like i was popping blues every two seconds, just occasionally every 40 seconds or so. now that i have ageless ive been debating trying out spiritual, although my recharge is good to me and i like extra damage resist from cardiac also, but the best thing is just see where your lacking at plug that hole with your alpha slot.
the other incarnate powers for the most part are just simply your choice, destiny is an exception cause you can further plug another hole in your character with that. key thing is enjoy the character and try to fix some holes that your build has left, at least that is the way I do things with mine. -
best way to get the luck of the gamblers is tip missions and trading in merits for alignment merits, in two days you can get three of them if you do this, they cost 2 merits each.
absolute amazement and coercive persuasion from what i have seen on the market sell for around 50 to 60 million average, from what i have been seeing when i checked that is which isnt all that often myself but they are fairly cheap for purples. the unbreakable constraint i dont know about because i havent checked. i just bought a plus defense lotg for 60 million last night on the market. id say check the market several times a day and then try to put up a offer that is within 10 percent of the going rate and you would probably get some hits simply because anyone selling them at the market are going to pay the 10 percent tax so if you make the offer better than that somebody would probably take you up on it. im trying to purple out a controller right now myself but not working exclusively at it so good luck in getting what you need, those purples can be a pain at times. -
for my invuln/ss tank i picked the cardiac alpha because of endurance issues so i took something that would help my endurance out.
for destiny i took ageless because i really didnt need anything else that was available, rebirth would of been the second option but considering i dont even use dull pain having a second heal just seemed pointless to me but even with cardiac if i went full out on a boss or av i would be sucking some endurance pills during the fight so i got ageless and never have to worry about endurance now, just pop ageless when i get low and if its down and i have to use a blue inspiration i do it.
for judgement i took pyronic just because i like fire, and it seems to work well with melt and fireball, makes me a aoe machine. use melt, use pyronic, use fireball, use foot stomp, most minions even at plus 4 to me are dead at that point, repeat when they recharge. use ko blow and haymaker and jab as fillers when necessary.
for lore i took storm elementals, no special reason why just liked the idea of storm elementals.
the other one i took reactive for the 75 percent chance of the fire dot to add to my damage.
What my tank turned into is a unstoppable death machine without having to use unstoppable. im very satisfied with him now, he is nigh invulnerable with the io sets i picked i have maxed out defenses with invincibility and set bonuses, max resist to smash/lethal, 35 percent or so to everythign else, but with my defense i hardly ever take any damage and I pump out alot of damage to my foes. I can solo on plus 4 x8 without a problem, ran a itf last night and my health never got below 3/4 of a bar even on the second mission which used to be one of the hardest for me with all the neg energy attacks. even on rommie i didnt get hit for much damage at all, never even used dull pain the entire tf, dull pain might be a dead power for me now unless i just want to use to max out my hit points and since its perma now i may do that with it, cause i dont need the heal.
hope this helps, but those are the reason i chose what i did choose and I am very happy with my tank, very survivable and very good damage. -
well personally i would take ageless over the rebirth and here is why. if your tank is properly built with io sets you dont need another heal ever. dull pain will work just fine. no matter what you do with invuln/ss it at times is gonna suck up endurance especially with hasten, hasten drops you lose endurace, rage drops you lose endurance. i run all my invuln toggles, tough and weave, combat jumping and maneuvers all the time. i never take damage but when hasten and rage drops i do take a endurance drop. when i use the pyronic judgement power, fireball, footstomp and ko blow one after the other endurance can get a little low, i pop ageless and dont have to worry about endurance for the next two minutes. compare that to rebirth, every two minutes i can get a heal with some damn good regen, but the thing is, that litte green bar i have that indicates health, rarely even moves unless im fighting an av, or doing a trial, and even then i can pop a green inspiration or dull pain and recover that plus dull pain maxes me out in hit point anyway and that many hit points is gonna be hard to chew through. basically i feel if i have to pop rebirth then i will probably die anyway so no point in having it. max out your defenses, max out your resists, and you dont need rebirth imo. ageless was a no brainer for me. ymmv but that is my experience with my invuln/ss tank that i have tried many many builds for, but the one i got right now works the best for me.

wth, im pretty sure my rest power still drops into my tray at level 2, at least on my last 4 toons i made in the last couple of days it has, yall gonna make me go make another toon just to test this out.
on another note, why does it matter, if it does fine, if it doesnt fine, if you want it on your power tray put it there, if you dont want it remove it, only takes a few seconds to do that. now if the game is not giving you the rest ability under your powers tab, i can see that being a problem and maybe should be /bugged to let support know, but on your power tray, really, really. kind of a silly thing to be complaining about either way to me.
Beta servers equal problems with game, get used to that. Hell for seven years this game has had odd little quirks that dont seem to get fixed, maybe thats why i really enjoy this game so much, its got personality. -
dont know if this has been mentioned but they are playing up this new half black/half hispanic to diversify more to a wider audience. He is also homosexual to appeal to the gay crowd. My opinion, while I dont have anything against black or hispanic or homosexuals, spider man is peter parker and if its not peter parker then its not spider man. some things you just dont mess with and Marvel should know that, ruined one of my all time favorite super hero characters with this crap. should of just made a new super hero if they wanted to appear more cultured and named him gay dude or spider dude or anything but dont screw with spiderman.

so i was looking through the guides and i noticed there is no mace/shield guide for brutes, or any mace guides at all, so was just wondering if anyone has played a mace brute and if anyone has any advice for playing a mace/shield in particular.
its a concept character for me so im not worried about being the best, but i was just kind of wondering if anyone tried out some of the powers and had any particular powers they would stay away from. im thinking shatter at this moment cause it appears from the description this is a huge knockback power and generally kb is kind of annoying but if anyone has any advice they are willing to share id be interested. thanks for the help. -
welcome to city of heroes. the last graphic upgrade did alot to make the game look better, but you do have to remember the game is 7 years old so graphics might suffer a bit.
i have noticed that bug where it doesnt display a team members health at times, that is very annoying.
yeah i lose my cursor sometimes when playing, makes it annoying to hit powers on my second and third tray since i usually use my mouse for that.
i agre on target of target window, it was so much easier in wow to focus on stuff while attacking through a teammate.
glad you like the game, superheroes is definitely the way to go for mmos for me. if you are on pinnacle server or make a alt on there look up global undeadlord ill try to help yall out if you need any help that is. -
thanks snow for correcting me on that, i thought it would still be available to buy, and i guess it is if you pay the sub, lol. dont matter to me as ill still be subbed to the game but others might not have known, thanks for clearing that up.

having to buy power sets like time manipulation is not so bad imo. this game is much different than most games in that regard at least imo, there is pvp but it is not the main focus for most players although im sure there are players that love it. buying powersets does not equal buying power in this game unless those sets are just ungodly powerful but i dont see that happening. im thinking they are gonna make you buy the stuff that requires more micromanagement like masterminds and controllers or just buy new powersets that is released because people want new powers. i know i got one last character slot right now that im reserving for a time manipulation character.
-
if im not mistaken you can buy incarnate access for them, might be cheaper just to buy it for the toons you want to play if that is still gonna be an option.

well right out of the tutorial you can sell your large inspirations they give you for around 250kish influence to afford your first set of duals. i did this by putting them up for a small amount and each one of them sold for 125k or you can wait till you get some influence and put them up for 25k each once you have the influence to list them.
you can also send your toon money from any character as people have said.
you can also sell all your salvage, luck charms you can generally get around 50k for them eventually, might not sell super fast but they will sell. i have a level 20 toon that has already made close to a million in influence just by selling salvage at the auction house. take your recipe drops and craft them and they will normally sell decently. if you get lucky and get a plus defense global or plus kb enhancement, those can sell for millions. so being able to afford those duals and singles are pretty easy now if you use all the tools available to you. if you dont want to use the ah then just sell the stuff to a vendor, should be fine also but you might have to wait for some of the singles. -
i have a level 50 rad/dark that hit level 50 many years ago and im currently working on an io build for him. it is easily one of my favorite characters and was my second character to 50. ill agree it doesnt seem to be a popular combo anymore, not for certain if it ever was but if you want to make avs pee in their pants and control groups of mobs and be able to mix it up with them this is a awesome combo. i just put my anchor on a mob, close in with tentacles and blast them with nightfall, they generally cant hit me by that point then i use my single target attacks. the sniper attack can actually be used at close range as the mobs probably wont hit you while its charging. get emp pulse and the tier 9 blast power in dark, blackstar i think it is and you get to blow up large groups of mobs very fast. very effective combo and to me was alot of fun leveling up. im currently switching him over to villian side to get the mace mastery pool to get scorpion shield and even more immobilizes to lock mobs down so they cant move before moving him back to hero side and when that happens ill be around 40 percent defense to almost everything with my debuffs should be much more durable then.
just try it out, the combo is alot of fun and i found not a whole lot of mobs have resistance to neg energy so the damage is pretty high. -
read call me awesome guides for some really good information, make a build in mids and post it so we can see what you got in mind for the toon so we can give you some information on the build. i made a very good build based off call me awesomes guides that cost me around a billion influence, nothing super expensive other than the luck of the gamblers recharges which you can get pretty quickly from alignment merits. i went for a softcapped defense build with pretty good resistances to back it up, mine isnt so much a s/l farm build although it can work very good for that but more to be able to handle any situation at all, but we really need more information as to what you plan on picking unless you just want us to post our builds so you can copy it into mids.
-
well i got enough accuracy enhancement ios that accuracy is not really a problem for me, i miss occasionally and dont seem to notice it all that much but i am much more durable. i found i just didnt have the slots overall for everything i wanted to do, if i had 6 more slots i could make my character exactly how i want him. i solo alot so i wanted more damage, guess just depends on what you want to do, but for me accuracy isnt a problem and now with soft capped defenses or close enough to it anyway I can take on anything and survive and now with more damage i dont even worry about elite bosses or anything else that i couldnt do enough damage to before now. havent tried to solo a av yet but shouldnt be a problem.
i just kept respeccing until i had the build where i wanted it and im still not done now that im going for perma hasten and perma dull pain. -
ok id get rid of punch, its generally not needed with your other attacks. if im not mistaken plasma shield is your immob protection you really want that before level 24 if you ever plan on exemping down. ill stick it in mids later if i get a chance to really look at it a bit more but those two things id change asap.
-
if it was me i would knock my single target attacks down to 4 slots each and slot them with smashing haymakers for the defense bonuses that set gives or kinetic combats if you can afford or want to grind up the alignment merits. invuln/ss is my main and I took hasten because ko blow and foot stomp have longish recharge times even with hasten. your build is alot like my first build and ill try to remember to get on and post my current build im using. I didnt like the power mastery pool because i just couldnt get enough damage going so i switched to pyro mastery for more damage. if your not concerned about damage then power mastery is a decent choice. without hasten dull pain can not be made perma to my knowledge and having nearly 3600 hit points with soft capped defenses or real close to it plus the resistances you have is nearly god like. i would keep unstoppable while leveling but when you hit 50 and start getting your io sets done i would respec out of it, i currently have it in my build and am gonna respec out of it as soon as I figure out what i want to replace it with simply because now i never use it. all up to you but hasten is something i would put in the build, yeah its more micro management but ss and invuln needs that power imo, you can live without it but it makes things alot better on the recharge.
read call me awesomes guides, they are very good sources of information to get the most out of a invuln tank. -
well first thing to do is get your alpha slot unlocked so you can start earning incarnate components. second thing to do is run task forces you havent done yet, work on getting those nifty little accolades that boosts your character, go to ouroboros and work on any story arcs you missed. do tip missions for alignment merits to help you get rare recipes you will need easier. download mids if you havent done so and start playing around with your build and io sets, this way you can see kind of what you want and what your gonna need without spending an arm and a leg plus your firstborn child to get the io sets just to find out this aint what you wanted. start running itf, do the shadow shard, do the rikti war zone arcs, um do trials if you can get in one.
personally i would get the accolades first, the endurance and hit point boost ones and when you get bored of that go run tip missions or itfs for shards to get your alpha power slotted. once it is slotted, run some trials or tin mage task force and stuff like that. plenty to do and it is kind of overwhelming but just pick a plan on work towards it every day, nothing in this game takes an overly long time to finish up and if you get bored with one thing go do something else. -
ok thanks for the replies guys, look at the build i had set up on mids earlier and some funky things happened, apparantly i learned how to make mids do math for me and I see hasten is like recharging in 100 seconds so i can trim some of the expense down assuming mids is correct which im not so certain about now cause every time i look at it the recharge seems to be different, but oh well. im gonna plug in my current build and see where that leads me and then know what to change.
