New 50 - now what?

I just got my first level 50 - now what? Is there a guide or list of things to focus on? Which missions do people run for fun/cash/rare drops? What do people tend to do at 50?

Thanks - I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of the IO Set options, etc.

Congrats!

I'm sure many people will chime in with their suggestions, but, if you own the Going Rogue expansion, you might first want to unlock access to your Incarnate abilities by doing the intro arc in Ouroboros. That way you can earn rewards while you're doing regular content.

Other than that, you can do basically any content you want. Many people tend to be running Incarnate trials these days, so check your server to see where they're hanging out. (Usually PD or RWZ)

well first thing to do is get your alpha slot unlocked so you can start earning incarnate components. second thing to do is run task forces you havent done yet, work on getting those nifty little accolades that boosts your character, go to ouroboros and work on any story arcs you missed. do tip missions for alignment merits to help you get rare recipes you will need easier. download mids if you havent done so and start playing around with your build and io sets, this way you can see kind of what you want and what your gonna need without spending an arm and a leg plus your firstborn child to get the io sets just to find out this aint what you wanted. start running itf, do the shadow shard, do the rikti war zone arcs, um do trials if you can get in one.

personally i would get the accolades first, the endurance and hit point boost ones and when you get bored of that go run tip missions or itfs for shards to get your alpha power slotted. once it is slotted, run some trials or tin mage task force and stuff like that. plenty to do and it is kind of overwhelming but just pick a plan on work towards it every day, nothing in this game takes an overly long time to finish up and if you get bored with one thing go do something else.

Thank you! I forgot about accolades. I'll work on those while I try and figure out how the heck to make the Set bonuses work. Any advice or guides on how to approach Set Bonuses? I have no idea what kind of % soft caps I should even be shooting for. I am fire/kin and most of the guides call for crazy purple sets - I need something more normal I think - not sure though.

Fire/Kin what, exactly? Corruptor or Controller?

The best way to increase your overall effectiveness as a Controller or Dominator is through Recharge bonuses. With those, your controls and damage abilities fire faster, locking down more foes, healing you more often, and doing more overall damage.

While the highest end builds use purple sets, there are quite a few relatively inexpensive sets you can get to improve your recharge and defenses. If you do eventually go the Purple route, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that Mezz sets are often cheaper than the others.

Additionally, it would serve you well to run tip missions that reinforce whichever alignment you are. Not only do you get drops, whenever you complete a cycle you get an Alignment Merit. Every regular (not purple) IO enhancer costs only 1 or 2 Alignment Merits each. Additionally you can spend money and convert the reward Merits you get from doing Task Forces and arcs into more Alignment Merits. Despite the money to convert that can quite often end up being more efficient than just getting recipes at the Merit Vendor or AH.

I'm a fire/kin controller. To be honest I am not familiar with Tip missions so I'll read up on those as an option. Thanks!

Biggest thing to remember when considering set bonuses is the "rule of five" - the same named bonus only stacks five times. This is by the name listed in /info - so five 7.5% global recharge bonuses from regular set bonuses (which will all have the same name) and five of the Luck of the Gambler recharge bonuses (7.5%) will stack, as the LotG have a unique name.

One thing to note is that there are certain yellow sets that are cheap to buy, cheap to build, that you can stack for some better-than-nothing albeit small bonuses while you're working on being able to afford "real" sets. Smashing Impact is such a set for melee; Thunderstrike is one for ranged. They're cheap enough overall that you don't have to feel too bad about just dropping something more expensive in over them later (though usually I still do).

You can usually get orange sets for non-attack powers pretty cheaply as recipes, though you'll find that crafting them calls for a rare salvage apiece that can cost 2 million Inf.

If you're going to slot yourself up with sets, it's smarter to build them yourself; you'll end up paying several times what it would cost to do that if you buy pre-made. (Though on the other hand, selling pre-made is a decent way to earn yourself the cash you need for better sets.)

LoL I'm sorry. It takes me several months to adjust my default memory responses sometimes. It also doesn't help that I perpetually file Kinetic Melee under Jazz Hands.

They could be an old vet that just came back and finished off a character and thus they didn't need to do a lot of missions to do so and are still learning about all of the changes, see ignorance about IOs.

You're gonna confuse the poor guy.

There are 2 sets you mashed together there.

Crushing Impact and Smashing Haymaker.

There's no set called Smashing Impact.

Quite a few of us managed it years before they even existed.

Oh and Lemur if he was playing a corrupter it would be Kin/Fire not Fire/Kin

1. No one ever said anything about before tips exist, but there's a big popup that says "Tip Received!" or something like that, and there's a new tab in the contacts window. Hard to miss. Not sure how people can get to 50 without seeing those two...unless it's via AE, because tips don't drop in AE.
2. Corruptors are Damage/Support. Thus a Corruptor would be Fire/Kin.

DEFENDERS are Support/Damage. A DEFENDER would be Kin/Fire.

Since nobody mentioned it, I wanted to add to this that you can only do what LL details here for Alignment Merits if you are a "pure" Hero or Villain alignment -- if you are a Vigilante or a Rogue, you can still do this, but instead of an AM, you receive 60 Reward Merits.

(Also, the first time a Hero or Villain completes this mini-cycle, instead of an Alignment Merit, you receive 50 Reward Merits, but they can be "cashed in" with the appropriate Alignment Vendor in Fort Trident or The Crucible along with 20 million inf for 1 AM.)

Things I always do on the way to or at 50:

Work on the Accolade powers, especially the passives
Do the first Vanguard story arc in the RWZ to get access to Vanguard Merit drops
If a Villain, do the Patron Arcs
Reaffirm alignment at least once for the power, via tip missions
Unlock the Alpha Slot to start collecting shards
Plan a good build for 50 in Mid's Hero Designer
