Returning Fire/Kin help please?

Hello. I've returned after a few years off. I've started a few new characters that I'd like to get slotted with some IOs, so I would like to use my 50 Fire/Kin controller for a little farming for salvage and tickets to try and make some money on the market or get some useful recipes for the other characters. It's build still has fitness, so I know I need to respec, and I have all SOs. I've been searching for a few hours, and I can't find any builds that use SOs that aren't so old as to still take fitness as a power pool. Can anyone point me to a thread or a decent Mids datalink? I'm afraid if I follow an IO build, without having IOs, that my power and slot choices will be poor. I have like 30 mil on her, and maybe 150 mil total on all chars if SOME IOs would be considered very smart to get before starting.

Thanks everyone. I've missed this game, and so much has changed since an issue after villains came out when I left LOL.

since you have some money, check the market for cheap set IOs to frankenslot your powers. By this I mean just using the multi-aspect IOs along with common IOs/SOs in order to get the most out of your powers. You wouldn't be shooting for set bonuses with this method.

I can't speak too much for the Fire/ side, but on the /Kin side of things...

Siphon Speed and Fulcrum Shift just need 4 slots for 2 Acc/2 Rech. Transfusion and Transference could get 4-6 slots depending on what else is going on with your build. You want a balance of Acc/Heal(Endmod)/Rech for them. Siphon Power, SB, ID and pretty much all of the other Kin powers are good with just the base slot.

You'll be able to get an extra 3 powers into the build because of Inherent Fitness. However, since I don't know what your current build looks like, I am unable to advise on which powers to take to fill those spots.

SG: Guadians of Paragon - VG: Paragon's Darkness
The Usual Suspects: Fimboolvetr (Icer Tank), Tsukiyomi (Mind/Psi/Ice Dom), Smiting Dragon (Dm/Sr Scrap), Widow Mortis (NW)
Up and Comers: Ameterasu (Km/Reg Scrap), Arrhymian (Elec/Nin Stalk), TDMKII (Bot/Traps MM)

Infini, thanks so much for the reply. I could not figure out how to take screenshots of my enhancements screen, so I took a few pics and pieced them together in order to show you the current build. I noticed that this is so old it's before ED! LOL! I'm not opposed to changing anything at all.

and I cannot get the image to post...... grr.

If you're a Windows user, download Titan Sentinel. No need to screenshot.

It'll copy your build and you can directly import it into Mids or paste it here on the forums.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Thanks for the tip Hyperstrike! I'll give this a shot. Please don't laugh, this character has not been used since before ED. Ah, the good 'ole days.

As you can see, I need some serious help updating this to current issue. Check out those (6) damage in imps! LOL.

I guess it would be smart of me to use some of the money I've got to IO the more important powers. I have to spend money anyhow to change around all these enhancements for ED. Although now that I think about it, I'll get all the money back for the enhancements in the respec. There's some more cash.

Thanks for the help all.

Hear hockey, its not totally cheap, and you will have to work towards those LOTG's. But most of the the other stuff can easily be bought with 150 mill and some patience. Stick to S/L farms like Battle maiden until you get back into the swing.

Wow, I can't afford 1/2 of those IOs, but I'm also tired and vision a bit blurry, so I'll take another look tomorrow. Perhaps I'll look at the other sets in the same category to see if there is something cheaper. BTW, why are 30ish IOs higher priced than lots of the higher level IOs?

The majority of Fire/Kins go with the Earth APP rather than Ice. Fissure recharges much faster than Ice Storm, and the stun can stack with Flashfire. The short range of Fissure doesn't matter if you are already in melee for your other powers. The Rock Armor is ugly, but has slightly higher S/L numbers than Ice Armor. Seismic Smash gives you a large single target attack -- something that Fire/Kin otherwise lacks. And Earth's Embrace adds to survivability.

Hockeytown,

If you are returning after a few years, you may not know about Hero Tips and Villain Tips. When defeating level 20 or higher foes, you will get tips that the foes drop that unlock new missions as part of the alignment system. You can do 5 tips a day basically, and if you collect 10 successful tip missions of pure Hero or pure Villain status, you can get an 11th tip which is a morality tip for your alignment.

The first time you do the morality mission, you get access to a special base. For heroes it is Fort Trident in Atlas Park. After you unlock access to fort trident, in future you can continue doing 10 hero tips every 2 days, but now when you do your 11th morality mission on every second day, you earn a brand new type of merit called a Hero Merit (or a Villain merit for bad guys). These Hero Merits can be spent in Fort Trident to buy any non-Purple recipe from a bin/basket/box youll find in the fort. Even the most expensive recipes only cost 2 hero merits at most.

So if you actually like to play your fire/kin in real missions, you can do tip missions and every 4 days you can generate 2 hero merits and buy any single recipe that you like, without having to buy it on the market. Over time you can really trick out your favorite character "on the cheap".

So dont be too put off by expensive recipes other than purple recipes. The only down side is that whike fire/kins can be strong in some specific types of missions, in most content they can be a bit uneven, and they can find the new tip missions to be challenging. Bring your "A"-game. Or at least your "B+" game.

If you buy Going Rogue you'll gain access to the Alignment system. This'll give you tip missions that'll allow you to rack up alignment merits. You can use those alignment merits to spec-buy recipies that you need.

30's are particularly in demand because you lose set bonuses if you exemp down more than 3-levels below the IO's level. Level 30 is also the place where IO slotting actually becomes more worthwhile than SOs. Hence the level 30 stuff while not giving the absolute MAX boost to basic attributes, are still quite in demand.

Local man is right about Stone Mastery, i have it on my Controller as well. I made this with the idea that you would have to earn those LoTG's. We can run tip missions together. 5 missions a day can be done pretty fast when you do them over and over lol. Here is the build with Fire/kin/stone. We can cheapen it up even further if you want

Wow, great info everyone. Thank you so much! I knew about the tip missions, as I have been leveling a MM, and took her to the hero side. I didn't realize the value of doing them over and over for merits, however. Great tip.

I had already done the respec last night with Clutch's original build, so I'll probably stick with that at least for now since I don't have any free respecs left, which is kind of surprising considering the time gone. I had a couple other chars with 2. But, that's OK. I will try to work out which sets I can afford at this time, and SO the rest until I work up the cash for more. I think a steady diet of tip missions, AE, and some place I read about called Ourburos (not sure of spelling) will supply me with lots to craft and sell.

Not immediately helpful, as you're blue side ATM, but Mace Mastery might also be worth a look on down the road.

Free Respecs, usually referred to as "Freespecs," are usually given out with new issues. Sometimes the Devs will give one, wait a week or two, and then give out another. However, you can only have one at a time. If you don't use it, you don't get an additional one.

Earned Respecs (from the trials in-game) can be saved up. (I tend to not use these, so I have the max of three on several of my older characters.). Veteran Respecs (usually called "Vetspecs") can also be saved. And finally there are Respec Recipes that can be crafted for a Respec, but these are pretty rare. I have had only 3 drop ever. The last one I had drop sold for 300,000,000 on the market. If you have a Freespec, the Respec Recipe won't craft.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Local Man, thanks for that. I feel like I should have remembered this stuff, but is has been a while LOL. Thanks for the refresher.

So, for Clutch, and you all that have helped out so far, I am posting an update. I had 145 million to work with after transferring from a bunch of toons. Here is what I've done so far, and surprisingly, with a little patience and time spent on the market, I've gotten these IOs with a total of 47 million. It's not all the stuff recommended, as I went for lower than 50 level stuff, and other sets, as prices demanded where I had to. However, I tried not to go below 35 wherever I could. A few in the beginning I did go a little under 30 since I did not know how much it would cost me total. I'm confident that with what I've learned that I can finish most of the IOs recommended at decent levels and get a good start on farming. I so appreciate your help everyone. You've all helped me learn a great deal. Please feel free to keep comments going, as I'm checking this thread a few times a day. Again, thanks!

another thing i havent seen anyone mention so far hockey is run lots of tfs and story arcs you havent done yet for reward merits. reward merits can then be used in one of two ways.

1) go to a merit vendor and you can buy some of those recipes for merits or

2) once a day, or every 20 hours you can trade in 50 reward merits and 20 million influence for one alignment merit which you can use to buy recipes just like you earned the alignment merits by doing tips. this tradein is available at fort trident also.

if you run tfs a few times a day especially doing the weekly task force every week you can earn enough merit rewards for that and generally if you craft the recipes you get from those tfs, obviously not ones you need, then you can sell those enhancements for the 20 million. i generally make 30 to 50 million a day just doing that. so every two days you can get three alignment merits to buy a recipe, plus some money to help you buy the others.

also when you are buying invention sets, look at the recipes for those enhancements also, alot of times you can get the recipes for cheaper than the enhancements and either run ae for tickets to buy the salvage or just buy the salvage, just check salvage prices to make sure you can get the salvage plus recipe cheaper than the enhancement.

hope this helps.
