X-Men:First Class Early Reviews are Good--Really Good
I don't need to be so crass. This is a big film. Personally, I think they should use nobodies and bring up the next generation but these type of movies always use the "hot" actor/actresses at the moment. The sould have used someone younger for Emma but January probably made a personal plea and "a visit" and got the role. This is Hollywood.
I enjoyed this movie much more than I thought I would.

I just got back from seeing it. Glad I did. It was a very enjoyable film. Great addition to the franchise, and redeems it for X3. Loved the cameo and the easter eggs.
What I hope for is these writers and this director to do a reboot set in the modern day now.
I'm not surprised by either character who changed size.
Angel changed sides from the side with the people who they are suppose to be helping openly mocking you to the side that wipes out those same people without breaking a sweat.
Raven changed the side where her true form is encouraged to be hidden to the side whose leader tells her she'll be accepted openly by her own kind.
And Frost doesn't really change sides.

Of the movie, only two people (Angel and Raven) changed sides. The rest kept the side they were on, only under new management (from Shaw to Magneto).
I will forever wonder why Magneto changed styles on his helmet to the terrible one we see in X1-X3 First Class's Magneto helmet was so much better

Just saw it and loved it. It does a far, far better job of showing Xavier's flaws and imperfection than the comics, which surprised me. I'm still deciding whether I prefer it to X2, but it definitely tops the rest of the series.
I was very "meh" on it. I think I actually preferred X3.

The Beast make-up was genuinely awful. I can't believe that made it onto the screen.

So I just got back from it, it was damn good. But I'm not here to talk about that, I'm here to talk about a really fun alternate interpretation of the movie I came up with while watching.
So Sebastian Shaw has the ability to absorb energy, and then use that energy to chuck things around and blow things up.
And Sebastian Shaw also wants to start a big war between the US and Russia, which will result in a lot of things getting blown up.
And Sebastian Shaw's favorite way to kill people? Blow them up.
Ok. So. Compare:
And now notice how much he looks like a certain other explosion obsessed madman.
X Men First Class is about the X Men trying to stop Michael Bay from blowing up the world.
Minor quibbles and some aesthetic issues aside:
Excellent movie.
So this:
Very Good movie. Charles and Erik were great, whoever did the casting on those two need a raise. Unless he did Sebastian Shaw for Kevin Bacon, then he needs to be fired. HATED Bacon as Shaw. I'd like to see how this goes, of course I said After X-men, and looked what happened.
Only saw one cameo, and this is the first Marvel movie in ages that Stan Lee wasnt in it as a Cameo. I saw the bar cameo, defintely grasped how it would happen.
Bacon as the evil German scientist? Good casting and sold that part of the character.
Bacon as Shaw? Not so much.
And ya, that second cameo was pretty quick. Basically, if you blinked, you missed it.
You guys are totally building this movie up for me.
Must see it tomorrow.

I saw it only a few hours ago and I thought it was a very thoughtful and fun movie, that knew when drama was drama and when there was time for a tension-relieving joke or two.
McAvoy and Fassbender are very able leads and Fassbender in particular was done a great service in being told by Vaughn not to reference Ian McKellan's performance. That was a very good choice and no offence to our Xavier/Magneto here, Patrick Stewart and MacKellan are veteran Shakespeare rep actors with a gravitas that really only comes from experience. Not tying either actor to be beholden to that was a very good move.
However.
This is apparently being pitched as a new trilogy (as I feared, not being a fan of prequels full of younger, prettier actors rather than...you know...actors) and there are continuity problems ahead, considering they made such an effort to reference the earlier films.
For one, we have a character from the Wolverine movie in this movie, and from the Wolverine movie we have a slightly older Xavier taking in Cyclops and co. So you would then have to explain how said character winds up being in the Wolverine movie.
And then Wolverine himself...without giving anything away, there's a connection made there that pretty much undoes Wolverine being an unknown factor in the original X-Men film.
Fox have clearly decided that rather and try to ignore or address X3, they're going to root themselves in the past and do the Young X-Men Adventures, because presumably the primary cast have been signed to at least one more picture. Otherwise why our cameos? Why clearly state in the script references to future events? And lastly, why have Bryan Singer on board as one of the producers if it's clean slate? He has a viable connection to this franchise as it started out and starting anew would to me imply a desire to start fresh, rather how Star Trek did.
It's still an excellent film however, but I do fear that the long term plans for this is a 'milk the franchise' move more than anything else.

***Possible Spoilers ahead***
Nothing in X1 really gets undone by First Class. For one, in First Class, amnesia hasnt hit yet.
Charles.magneto never said they never met him before, and what they did meet was less than a minute.
However, yeah...we now know Charles goes bald by the time the 80's hit
There is the bit about him still walking then, but that can easily be that he gets cured and then put back in the wheel chair again (has happened in the comics, so can happen in the movies).
I dont think they used Emma's name in Wolverine, but I dont recall.

They didn't, but the diamond body powers, blonde hair, the whole bit were intended by the filmmakers and they stated as such.

Really liked it. They could have used a cardboard cutout with speech bubbles to give Emma Frost a little more personality, but other than that I thought the casting was great. The cameos were well done and the action was entertaining.
The interaction between the two leads really made this movie.

This movie has looked so horrible in every trailer I've seen, and come across so poorly in every interview that I've seen, that - combined with how bad X3 and Origins Wolverine - I can't bring myself to see it in theatres.
