  1. Just finished replaying ME1 on PC and just started on ME2. I decided to replay through all of them just because I played the first game on 360 and the second on PC, so I never got to import a save file. I figured I would get Maxwell Shepard all squared away for when ME3 hits.

Every other line of dialog in the show is like this --

"His spiritual pressure is incredible. A spiritual pressure like that could rip the zangpakuto right out of my hands!"

Use my rules and it becomes the funniest show on TV.
HA! I knew I wasn't the only person who thought this show was just a bunch of guys standing around going "my Zangpakuto is better than your Zangpakuto!" and then making up a bunch of crazy powers for themselves, and then having like three minutes of actual fighting.

    Baseball Cards

Baseball cards? These aren't baseball cards! They're these!

  4. Apparently Shia is out. He only signed on for three, and he's done.

Here's the interesting thing though. According to statements made at Toyfair (which can be read here) the fourth Transformers film is going to be a reboot, a quote "whole new re imagining of Transformers".

That, and given the fact that Hasbro wants to keep everything in the same continuity from here on out (the "Aligned" continuity), and intends everything for the next ten years or so to occur in that continuity, coupled with this interview here in which the executive producer of Transformers Prime mentions that they have talked about a theatrical Prime film leads me to suspect that this film might, and that is a big MIGHT, be an adaptation of the most recent cartoon; Transformers Prime.

If that's the case then I'm all for it. Transformers Prime only has one season under it's belt and it's already one of the best Transformers series ever (or THE best depending on who you ask). Color me cautiously optimistic for this.
  5. The fun thing about this is that the time/space/dimension hopping premise of Doctor Who is what makes it so easy to justify any sort of crossover. Hell, IDW owns the Transformers license too, I hope this does well so one day I get to see Dalekticons.

I own a game store. I haven't seen who plays in the RPGs that happen every night and sometimes day, but I'm sure I can count on one hand how many players are female, and I won't have to use all my fingers, either. (I know of two offhand, and doubt there's more, but there could be). Miniatures night there might be a wife and husband that play, but with two kids they don't show up often. I can understand the lack of females in miniatures since most are historical wargames, but there are a few fantasy skirmish ones as well (I have an elven army with a couple of unicorns and couple of faeries, manly ones of course , and quite a few female figures.. I like painting those ).

    I'll take the blondes, Tenzhi.
Huh, that's odd since in the tabletop gaming club at my college there's PLENTY of girls there. I run a D&D 4E game there and out of my core group of six players two of them are girls and one of them is openly gay. In fact, those three are the ones who have been playing the longest, and as such have found themselves getting the most plot-important roles. Though I will admit I don't see many girls going into the local tabletop gaming store, so maybe the dorm ballroom is a more comfortable locale, who knows :/

This whole discussion on the term "girl gamer" reminds me of a blog my friend started up. It's only got one post so far, but hopefully she plans on updating this thing more (and if not I'll bug her until she does). It's called "The Second Gamer" and is really just about her experiences as a girl who plays games. Check it out:

  7. Thanks for the little pick me up guys, I needed it . I guess I've always just found gratuitous cynicism in general to be well, depressing. Someone says something that I like is terrible and then I start wondering if they're right and wondering if I have terrible taste because I like it or am I just terrible period and yadda yadda yadda...urgh. Well I still really do like these forums, but the more I think about it the more I realize that it's not the playerbase at large I have an issue with, it's four or five players who just WONT SHUT UP about everything they feel is wrong, which has given me a bit of a false impression as to the overall cynicism of the playerbase. Needless to say, those people are getting put on the ignore list as soon as I finish typing this.

I guess the thing I'm really mystified by is the sudden outrage over bad storytelling. Of all the times to rage over bad story in this game why now? This is some of the best storytelling we've ever had, with mechanics and story practically waltzing together after spending most of the game's lifecycle in seperate rooms. Where were all these content police during like the I10-I12 era? You know the era of "HEY GUYS LOOK THERES NICTUS IN ROME. WHY? I DONT KNOW BUT HEY, THERES MECHAS AND NAZIS HERE TOO. WHY? WELL BECAUSE THE TASK FORCE IS OVER GOODNIGHT."
  8. So I've been playing this game on and off since June of 2004. Why? Because I enjoy it. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't be here, and if the game didn't continue to evolve in ways I enjoyed, I wouldn't keep playing. But there's a disturbing trend I've noticed over the last couple of years, in which many long term players have violently turned on the game, picking out each and every flaw they can find, all while acting like they're acting in the game's best interests by acting hyper-critical towards it. I'm not saying that criticism of any kind is bad, and a real fan should never point out flaws, but I've begun to feel like the City of Heroes community has fallen into that paradigm of cynicism=intelligence that plagues so many other fandoms.

But at the end of the day, I still find myself really enjoying this game! I like the community, I like the story, I like the design. Could they all be better? Yes, but I've never felt like ignoring the good parts of the game could improve my overall experience in any way. Granted, the increased criticism towards this game has caused me to notice some of the weaker parts of this game and become more critical, but I feel like I'm expected to play this game almost maliciously, looking for flaws at every turn.

So what I guess I'm trying to ask here is, would I really be doing anyone a favor by hating this game? Because I can't really see any benefit of continuing to play a game I hate.

Yeah, Dr. Aeon (the guy writing these arcs), has been really good about making it so that while both Heroes and Villains end up saving the world, the heroes end up getting forced to do it through morally ambiguous means. There's been a few times already where I've kind of squirmed in my chair at the stuff I had to do as a hero, while I know damn well my villains would have no such qualms.

Okay then, start your own thread for that, this thread is for talking about Issue 22.
  11. You know, it would be nice for just once to have a thread that doesn't derail into a big shouting match about sexism. We already have threads for talking about that sort of thing, it doesn't need to get dragged into here too.

Well let's be honest here. Every single game ever could be improved with a subtle application of eyeballs and jibbers. It's the next big revolution in gaming. In the seventh console generation, it was DLC, in the sixth, it was online play, in the eighth, it will be eyeballs and jibbers.

Zone Level Increase: Dark Astoria transforms into a Level 50 Incarnate co-op zone, with missions that can unlock Incarnate abilities for both Heroes and Villains. Dark Astoria is also now accessible from both Peregrine Island and Grandville.

Repeatable Missions: Dark Astoria repeatable missions feature rewards befitting an Incarnate, including Incarnate Experience and Thread Components.
  14. Wait a minute, I just realized something!

And what else in this game has spiky jibbers and eyeballs?

    Mot = Aspect of Rularuu?

  16. I didn't see a thread for this so I'll go right ahead and make one! And you know why I'm liking this issue already?

BECAUSE IT HAS CREEPY ALIEN BUG MONSTER SORCERERS. I mean you put creepy alien bug monsters in your game and hell, I'm onboard already, but when they're MAGIC as well it pushes my excitement up even further! Please let them have something to do with Rularuu please let them have something do with Rularuu please please please I NEED MAH RULARUU.

I'm all for something like this. The shard is already four zones, make one hero, one villain, and the other two co-op. Granted, if having the whole thing be co-op is the only way I'm going to get a Shadow Shard revamp then so be it, but I would prefer a more diverse approach.
  20. Just a side note, I just hit 32 with Kareleus Kraal Vetka and picked up Arc of Destruction. It it just me, or is Follow Through + Arc of Destruction the coolest one-two combo in the game? Knock em down, then while they're down RAM A GIANT SWORD THROUGH THEIR CHEST!
  21. This is Kareleus Kraal Vetka.

He's based on a custom D&D race of mine, the Zuriel, who can essentially be summed up as hulking, bloodthirsty, six winged angels. In my custom setting they used to be angels, but were turned into the Zuriel when a race of sentient omnicidal stars declared war on the world, killed off the gods they served, and used their abberant magic to warp them into their current forms, intending to use them as shock troops. The stars lost the war though, and the Zuriel have taken up protecting the world their gods created. Obviously this wouldn't work in City of Heroes, so I had to make some adjustments:

And you know what? He's one of the most fun characters I've ever played. I can just hear this guy bellowing in rage as he smashes bad guys into pulp in the name of preserving order.

I am a scion of Vetka...

I bring order to a world perverted by chaos...

I am the sword of the cosmos!

I am he who stands in the path of the Coming Storm!

I am the destroyer of the murderous and mindless!

AND YOU SHALL FALL BEFORE ME!!!

  22. I think I managed to pull it off fairly well with my Claws/DA brute; Lord Kron. Then again he's supposed to be nothingness incarnate, a vessel which the void constantly leaks out of.

  23. I always thought the best way to revamp the hazard zones would be to add PvP zone style minigames to them, with the potential to get temporary powers and other rewards. Granted for the sake of balance you would have to add some hazard zones redside too.
