Hate to say this, but Emma didn't develop a personality till she left the Hellfire club. I know this movie is different fromt he Marvel universe, but they did show how young charles was able to get all those girls.

Okay we have Havok, Banshee, and Beast as the core of the First class, who is going to flesh out the group, cause the X-men usually have 5 members? Also, when the next event? Might be too much, late 60s Civil rights, anti-war? Be weird and awkward, but have one of the X-men point out to Prof X how he is the MLK to the Magneto Malcolm X.

British Psylocke shows up and halfway through the movie her appearance changes to Asian! She'll take Jean's place, as Jean needs to be recruited by Charles and Magneto!

The fifth will be...Polaris!

And I wonder if they'll link Banchee to Siren in the movies.

Just got back from it.

  • It was good, better than Thor but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's as good as X2.
  • As others have said, the two leads made this movie.
  • January Jones definitely could have injected a little more life into Emma Frost
  • Besides Beast and Mystique, the other mutant roles could have been filled out by other folk, but when you've already got Magneto and Xavier, you have to wonder if the dichotomy between these two blue characters needed less screen time or perhaps more.
  • Sebastian Shaw was definitely a sufficient threat.
  • I hope seeing the metas zip around in colorful costumes makes other films less conservative about this kind of thing.
  • I'm beginning to fully believe that music has a big impact on the overall quality of a superhero film.

But, Thor was far better than X2.

S.
Maybe they won't count X3 and X-men Origins: Wolverine as part of the continuity. I hope so.

Got back from seeing this film, loved it. Really enjoyed Michael Fassbender's performance as a young Magneto.

I loved that they weren't afraid of making Magneto look like Magneto.

It also had a nice callback to the original X-Men books with the whole "Children of the Atom" thing Shaw went on about. This was later dropped in the comics for a more genetic-centered origin of mutants.

I thought the only one it was better than was X3, and just barely at that. Of course I like humor in my superhero movies as well as drama. Marvel has pulled off that combination of humor and seriousness in all their movies. Spiderman, Iron Man and Thor. But the X series just hasn't had it. When they do throw in humor it is always humor at the expense of somebody else. IE making someone else look bad or goofy. The only exception to this I can think of is the Wolverine cameo in this one.

And the real disappointment is that in the X-Men comics the characters were the least serious superheroes in the Marvel universe. And Xavier encouraged it. They were kids, they were having fun. The one scene in this movie where they use their powers for fun and really start bonding they get ******* out by Xavier for not being serious enough.

Xavier is still young and not much of a teacher. If he was as wise now as he is older he would have avoid all the problems that pop up in this movie. Also, X-Men and Spider-Man aren't technically a part of the Marvel Movie license. They are just Marvel comics made into movies by another company, unlike Iron Man, Thor, and soon to be Captain America and the Avengers.

Sadly, yes.

And that's the problem. Marvel understands comics. Fox only understands money. Probably the only reason they had Emma Frost in the movie was because she was sparkly and Twilight proves that sparkly things are popular. That's probably also why beast went full furry. Gotta have a wolf boy as nemesis to the sparkly telepath.

I'm not saying I hated the movie. I enjoyed it. It's just not a movie I want to see again. I might watch it if it comes on one of the movie channels but I won't be buying the dvd.

This is the most hilarious oversimplification I've ever seen. Emma Frost was in the movie because she is a ranking member of the Hellfire Club, and Beast went full furry because that's been a significant aspect of the character for decades now and it fits into the movie's premise.

Well it was his first job (so to speak), I'm sure he wanted to impress the CIA with his team. Not to mention nothing like a bunch of super powered clowns blowing up the joint while kidding around, not exactly the sort of behavior you want to encourage when your trying to tell the majority that mutants aren't a threat.

Game, cartoon, TV show, et al. Music is just as important at the imagery.

Its one of things that made A Kinghts Tale so memorable for me (in a bad way).

Are you serious man? Thor had better CGI and that was it! That movie made me moan out loud, especially the scenes with Natalie Portman.

I saw this last night with my BF. I was very "meh" going into it. He was pretty gung-ho, though. I have to admit, by the end I was sitting on the edge of my seat, shaking with excitement!

It was truly amazing. I was very impressed. With the acting, with the nods, with the cameos - Everything!

Kevin Bacon was delicious as The Big Bad! All three characters were great - And so smartly dressed!

Also: Sebastian Shaw's powers: Absorbing Kinetic Energy and releasing it...Kinetic Melee! I bet the Devs are happy!

I liked X-men First Class.

But first, I think the studios don't really want the creative restictions by keeping the movies too close to comics. Seriously, if you want the comic story, you go read the comics, right?

But moving along, It was funny to see Charles as the impulsive youth. It seemed artifical to me at first but it was appropriate for his development.
Fassberg, while nothing compared to Ian McKellen, was most engaged. The scene with Charles and him moving the dish was interesting. Charles created/developed Magneto.

We talked earlier about Emma Frost, January Jones wasn't so bad in this film. She needs to get more bass in her voice though and drop the mad men housewife/milf vibe. Also, she needs to drop the big hair and look a little younger. They should have put a little more work into her character's presentation. In the comics, I remember Emma always wearing pants or long coats/dresses. Emma was always about Business!! In the movie scene where she met the Russian general in the cold, she had a hat on her head but she was wearing a short skirt. I laughed out loud when I saw it. Just little things like that just make the character look tacky(She looked like a $lut to me). But we get a view of Emma Frost and we'll see how she develops.

I think Jones is the right person for this role though.

I had several concerns about this movie though.

- Dr. Moira MacTaggert, I love Rose Byrne...but this was her worst film choice ever. I thought Moira was a "trusted" friend of mutants, she seemed like a wildcard to me. That bit at the end just ticked me off. Charles is a fool for letting her around them now.

- Emma Frost, She was manipulating everyone else but she couldn't manipulate American CIA operatives? This was just odd to me. Why would she just sit in prison will all of her powers?

- I didn't realize what an idealist Charles Xavier was until I saw the life or death struggle with the missiles. I would not be human-friendly after that if I was a mutant. Mystique made the right move.

- Mystique - Did Jennifer Lawrence look kind of chunky in the film? I know she's young and probably still has girlish features/babyfat but when I read interviews with her, she just seemed more intelligent. I wondered what all the hoopla/hype surrounding her was about? In the credits, I noticed they assigned 11 people to her for the makeup bit.

- Banshee - Every time I saw Sean Cassidy I couldn't help but think of Ronald Weasley. I'm sorry

Again, I liked the movie...and Sebastion Shaw is not dead!! If he can manipulate energy then we'll see him again.

My comments were not positive ones. Her presence prevented Thor from going higher. Her scenes were just awful. Clumsy, Stupid, Frivolous, nowhere... Her sidekick girfriend was funny though. They should of made Thor love her instead.

Looked pretty much like they were going for pure 60s/go-go-ish style to me.

Hmmmm, my memories of Frost in comics growing up had her looking even $luttier. She wore actual pants far more in the movie than I ever remembered.... Then again I gave up on comics close to 20 years ago, so how they present Frost now I have no idea.

I actually liked how they introduced her and built her role up during the film, and then I was annoyed at the finish. To just cut her off like that seemed... abruptly contrary to Xavier's moral portrayal to that point.

A great question, that irked me mildly at the time, too. Especially after she demonstrated 'hearing' them in the soundproofed observation room.

It is difficult for me to argue against this, particularly given the quoted lines out of Xavier's thesis from earlier in the movie which seem to support Magneto and Shaw's conclusions.

I almost forgot, I "squeed" for real when the Navy Captain removed the binoculars and it was Michael Ironside!

Oh, and Chris Hemsworth (rw?) was sexy as hell as Thor.
