"Well, there's going to be some light music and a short note of apology saying, 'The universe ended last week, we're really sorry, we don't know what you're doing here, didn't you get the message?'"- Steve Moffat
Wow. Lots of very fantastic stuff. Lots and lots of new Lore pets, new costumes, stuff to do with the new merits, a new trial, new auras, and this isn't even a full issue.

Also on Steam
There's a lot of nice stuff, but little that I think is going to make a big difference to me. Notably:
New Lore pets: Indifferent. I already have Lore pets on all the characters I'm bothering to grind out, and don't see much reason to re-do 'em all from scratch. If we get some sort of Incarnate Respec, that would psyche me up a lot more for them, but otherwise, eh. Account-wide unlocks: Again, neat, but probably not something I'll use, since the costume set doesn't unlock until 50 (still the same problem, for example as Roman stuff), but if the Emblems and Auras are cheap enough, they might be nice. Thread vouchers: If it's just threads, then "eh". If it's all Incarnate salvage, this will actually be huge. Buffs: Cool, but I hope they don't get a big increase in cost. Personally, I'll take single buffing to turning all shield powers into Recovery Aura-style clicks with huge Recharge and End costs. |
But, I don't get the impression that the buffs will have an increased RCH/END cost. If it is indeed a QoL adjustment, I suspect instead we'll see people going around to popular hangout spots and AOEing the people, then watching them run off.

I personally can't wait to read all the nerdrage or perhaps ragequit responses to some of these changes, particularly the parts AoE buffs and private leagues, but in the mean time...
Well done devs, well done.

I have only one character that I'm going gung-ho after Incarnate powers (the rest of my 50's are on the "I'll get it when I get it" plan) so I fully anticipate getting most, if not all, of the available Lore pets for her. Because what... Rularuu? Storm Elementals? Carnies? HOW DO I CHOOSE?

As someone with a ton of masterminds, this is hardly ever actually a problem if you slot an endredux or two.
|
But for my Kins and Therms, this means respecs to put an extra slot and End Redux enhancement in each of those powers. And that's just the 50s (Kins) who have access to decent enhancements--I think I've only got one Therm high enough to use SOs. Lowbie shielders will be casting shields less often as the result of the endurance increase, making them less valuable in teams, which means fewer people will play them, and that leads to further disparity between the number of buffers vs. damage dealers in the end game.

Guess we'll just have to see what, if any, the endurance cost is.

Why would someone rage over the private league option? Honestly it's something that should have been done when Issue 20 launched. I can recall a few times I've been booted from a league because I wasn't a friend of the league leader or its members. So this is a big bonus for me. This allow people who want to only league with their friends to do so, and those that just want to hop on a league will join any league that is open. win-win as far as I'm concerned.

New Auras, some of them travel based! YAY! It's not an ice slide, but I just may be able to make that Frost Path work... (if only there was an alternate sprint power that was a slide and DIDN'T glow pink...)
And a HUGE THANK YOU to the Devs for making these available post-level 30 for anyone who has completed the Aura mission (as opposed to strictly purchasable via Astral and Empyrean Merits). So very grateful. |
If you wish to get around this you can use one of the aura vouchers to use them from level 1 forward.
Lots of interesting changes. Will be curious to see the prices of these items.
Two items that stand out in particular is the rainbow path aura and the ascenscion cape complete with glowtech. Curious to see what these new chest emblems will be as well. Mildly bummed that the ascenscion set will be level 50 only. But so be it.
Also very happy to see some of these new lore pets listed. I had specifically requested the Rularuu pets. Very happy to see those. The storm elementals are a pleasant surprise. As are the polar lights.
Fingers crossed that i21 or i21.5 includes a range of new judgement trees.
Mixed feelings about the now AoE nature of shield buffs. But with an */FF 'troller incarnate, I do find myself spending long stretches buffing the entire league. So for whatever costs this adds, it will probably ultimately be worth it just like inherent stamina ultimately was... surprising QoL streamlining move though.
Good work team.
Edit: Hoping with the new backpack tech finally worked out for the Steampunk booster, we eventually see a rigid back detail added for the Ascenscion set. With those glowtech emblems, seems like this set more than most could manage a highly stylized armor-plate-sorta-mini-wing rigid back detail.
Well, some of the new Lore Pets are generic enough people may beable to fit them into their concepts. Could be worth it for you if you care about your concept.

Predicting an increased end cost and no change in recharge.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
Most of this looks great, but I'm actually a bit unhappy with the AoE buffs change. I really have some situations where I DON'T want to be SB'd. I guess the team will have to spread out to avoid it, hard to do on a gray caves map or in Oranbega.
|
Furthermore, the 30 foot radius of a PBAoE is hard to gauge in practice: you wind up getting a lot closer than you need to be, and wind up in the splash from AoE attacks and stuns hitting melee characters.
In general, I don't like PBAoE buffs that require close proximity, because you have to interrupt team flow to gather the targets, or get into melee. I don't really mind having to buff each character separately with SB, Sonic, FF, etc. What I don't like is having to buff each character over and over and over again.
I would rather have seen these buffs remain single target, but have the duration increased, basically to as long as you're in a mission or trial.
On the other hand, if these AoE buffs affect the caster as well -- and it would make sense if they did, because that's how all AoE buffs work -- then it's pretty sweet. If so, you're going to see the population of FF defenders, corruptors and controllers increase drastically after 20.5.
Looking at the new pets, I wonder if they've been chosen because of some Incarnate link?
Vanguard = Lady Grey
Cimeroran = Imperious
Arachnos = Recluse
Longbow = Ms. Liberty carries Excalibur, an Incarnate artifact.
Rularuu = Rularuu is linked to the Well?
Strom Elementals = Rularuu is linked to the Well?
Carnival of Sahdows = Vanessa Devore's mask is an Incarnate artifact?
Polar Lights = Lord Winter is linked to the Well?
Rikti = ?
Nemesis = ?
Phantoms = ?
