What comic book movies would YOU make?
As a single movie?
Freakin' Nextwave. Pull out all the stops, bankrupt a major studio on production. Then kick something until it explodes. Sounds perfect.
Slightly more realistically, I could get behind Planetary as a series. The suggestions of Transmetropolitan as a series also appeal to me (noticing a pattern here?), though I'm not sure that the sheer...spectacle that is the setting would translate well from comics.
Hmmmm...
1) Planetary.
2) The Authority - BUT it has to be led by The One True Jenny.. Jenny Sparks.
Actually any movie with Jenny Sparks in it would be fine.
3) Sandman - The Endless Sandman, not some guy calling himself Sandman. And guest starring some of the other Endless, especially Death.
4) Death: The Time of Your Life / The High Cost of Living - either of the two miniseries would be fine.
5) Strangers In Paradise by Terry Moore - its got Action! Drama! Suspense! Romance!
1. A Tim Drake Robin animated series.
2. An Iron Fist Movie followed by a Luke Cage movie followed by a Heroes for Hire movie
3. A good X-men movie.
4. A Vic Sage The Question movie.
The Slayers - Lina Inverse (with friends) robs robbers, spooks dragons, and manages to save the world without accidentally blowing it up.
Have you ever read Top 10?

Not a comic book series, but I'd like to see Wild Cards get the HBO-type treatment, say, a mini-series, starting at the beginning and telling individual stories, but the build-up would be to the end of the third book, so the individual stories would support that. Having proposed such a chopping block, I'd cut my favorite story, Witness, as a first step. Sorry, Jack.
Of course, the money would be ridiculous, and the reaction would likely be the same as for the Watchmen movie, so this one will never see the light of day. Especially since George already has HBO doing his other series. Still, a guy can dream, right?
M. Bison: For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me...it was Tuesday.
-- Street Fighter (1994)
McClane: Hey, thanks for saving my daughter's life.
Farrell: What was I going to do?
McClane: That's what makes you "that guy."
-- Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
Dagnabbit! I was gonna suggest this one!

I doubt it would be very popular since people are used to series having a set roster of main characters, but I think it would be awesome. Especially if it's animated and double especially if we can get Bruce Timm to design it.

It's a nice dream, for sure, but we'd be more likely to end up with a Hollywood-style treatment that ignores the tone entirely. Obligatory Saturday morning sugar-rush link.

I need to add:
Y: The Last Man -- would make a great TV series. If they can come up with the budget to make The Walking Dead, there shouldn't be too much trouble making this. It would definitely have to be on a more Adult-Friendly TV Network (like FX or AMC or HBO), but it would be awesome. (Just started reading it, so I'm not too far into it, but WOW.)
Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!
Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.
Erm... it was a rhetorical question, but since you answered...
As far as I know, DC can continue to use the character of Captain Marvel, they just can't advertise the character using the name "Captain Marvel." That's why his books are always called Shazam something. (Or possibly S!H!A!Z!A!M! going by Flashpoint.) Oddly enough, the rule apparently applies to Mary Marvel too. I think if there was money to be made on the property, (and I do) the profits would overpower any company politicking. DC doesn't know what to do with the character. Cap's also one of the few "big" DC characters to have it worse than Wonder Woman in that respect. For that matter, Cap's rogues gallery get more panel time than he does. This is possible. There was rumor a while back that DC was going for a big CM push with a cartoon and the movie and all kinds of stuff. But Trials of Shazam bombed, the movie got stuck in development hell, and Billy and Mary have been stuck in comic limbo for ages. The only freaking Marvel Family characters appearing in an ongoing now are Osiris and Isis, and said book is one of the crappiest DC is putting out right now. |
I agree that there is money to be made with this character, DC just needs to get it in gear. To be honest I thought Billy/Captain Marvel was used very nicely in Justice League Unlimited and the more recent Superman/CM: return of Black Adam animated.
Billy needs to be portrayed as an honest, good hearted kid that wants to help others. Captain Marvel should be written similar to Superman but not quite as serious a personality as Superman since latest portrayals are that CM is still Billy albeit endowed with the wisdom of the gods so he'd be a bit more mature but still a kid at heart.
Honestly I just think DC doesn't like the character and doesn't want to have him surpass Superman.
Not necessarily a comic book though there was the mini series: Babylon 5: In Valen's Name.
Anyway, how about a movie Babylon 4: the saga of Valen
A movie or TV series about the era of Babylon 4 and Valen could do well.
Power Pack - I'd get Pixar on this to give it the "family-friendly yet fun for all ages" treatment.
Not a comic but.... Freakazoid - Because..... well..... FREAKAZOID!!! |
Quite true on both accounts.
Especially if the Pack's origin story is done. Could be done well either Live-action or animated.
Though a couple of other Comic IPs I'd love to see done:
Fred Perry's Gold Digger - Yea, I know Fred has animated the "Time Raft" arc, but this series just screams some type of movie, TV, or OVA adaptation.
Rod Espinosa's Neotopia - The story is solid, but it's the visuals and the alternate world setting that drew me into this tale. This would have to be a multi-part project no matter how it was done.
Thank you for the time...
no way that this would ever get done....however Gart Ennis' The Pro!!!! That would be hilarious......
You only fail if you give up. - Dana Scully
Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Riverentum - Nick Cave
We're not just destroyers, at the same time we can be saviors. - Allen Walker
Marvels the Kurt Busiek/Alex Ross Mini-series
Captain America the Brubaker era
All Winners Squad

Wouldn't mind seeing the Marvel mini series Secret Wars come to screen, that pretty much covers most of the hero and villians of Marvel.
Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.
Slazenger, Area51, Area53, Area54, Erruption, Mind Plague, Thresher, Sheath, Broadside, Debt
Most of mine have already been mentioned:
Authority
Planetary
Strangers in Paradise
Batman Beyond
Y: the Last Man
Top 10
Unmentioned:
Poison Elves - could be the BEST thing to happen to fantasy movies...ever.This list can go on and on...
Yotsuba& - I'd prefer it as an anime series but a CGI movie would RAWK the all-ages scene with hypercuteness!!
Ignition City - future cowboy steampunk dystopia? What's not to love?
Gundam 0079 - the Star Wars of giant robots, how this hasn't happened yet is forever a mystery to me
Runners - sure, we've already had Firefly & Serenity, but it's still an awesome story
Groo: the Wanderer - forget the Conan reboot, we want mulch!
Astro City - duh
Atomic Robo - for science!!!
The Sword - action, humor, gore and super powers! muwahahah!!
Craft your inventions in AE!!
Play "Crafter's Cafe" - Arc #487283. A 1 mission, NON-COMBAT AE arc with workable invention tables!
Branching Paragon Police Department Epic Archetype, please!
'Mazing Man
Lobo (would probably be unrated Sci-Fi/Grindhouse)
Shang-Chi (some people might not even notice it was a comic-based movie)
Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart's the memory
And there you'll always be
-- The Fox and the Hound
I would gladly pay to see a Captain Atom movie.
I would pay lotsa dollars to see an Empowered movie...
Yotsuba& - I'd prefer it as an anime series but a CGI movie would RAWK the all-ages scene with hypercuteness!!

The question is, would you be able to see it in theaters, or would it have to be shown on late-night Cinemax?
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
Ok. I wan't these in order
1) Cloak and Dagger!
2) Doctor Strange and the Protectors
3) Spider Woman (Guilty pleasure, and fave super lady)
3) Green Arrow and Black Canary (Old Teammates version)
