What comic book movies would YOU make?
I always wondered why the more mature comics where never done.. Those that can be popular by people who never touched a comic in their life.
* Moon Knight (he, its a Marvel version of Batman) * The Demon, Etrigan |
Etrigan.....I could see this if it were rated R, a PG 13 version would likely be too sanitized.
. . . snip . . .
T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents-- A live action series of films, each movie would focus on a different agent. . . . snip . . . |
The Peacemaker was another unusual character from the 60's. He was a pacifist vigilante who fought war mongering dictators. Think Henry Kissenger crossed with Batman
"I used to make diddly squat, but I've been with the company for 16 years and have had plenty of great raises. Now I just make squat" -- Me
Pediatric brain tumors are the #1 cause of cancer related deaths in children.
I loved T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents back in the 60's. Dynamo and Iron Maiden had an interesting relationship.

Not only that, but unlike Batman, Moon Knight is actually insane.
|
His world is shattered, and now he is the young heir to a vast business and fortune. Instead of seeking psychiatric help he immediately gets obsessed with learning everything he can from experts around the world and pool all that knowledge and skill into himself to fight crime. He then decides to dress up as a bat to scare crooks as he starts to beat them up.
So, one could say that Bruce Wayne is indeed nuts, but he has channeled it into something both bizarre and productive. However I don't see dressing as a giant bat and beating up criminals to be the product of a healthy mind.
Moon Knight is an ex-mercenary revived by an Egyptian deity to serve as his agent of vengeance. He then develops the Moon Knight persona, plus his original ID, plus at least 2 other personas and eventually snaps and is schizoid. So yes, Moon Knight is definitely nuts, though he was a mercenary and killer before becoming Moon Knight so his sanity may be dubious even then.
Yeah, I know. I meant a not-weaksauce TV series that writes out the main character's love interest from the comics so he can flirt/hook up with the pretty doctor and whoever the female guest star is this week and does practically nothing with the Rogues Gallery. Oh, and isn't trying waaaaaay too hard to make the Flash out to be Batman.
In all seriousness, I actually do own the DVD box set of the old Flash series. I just think it's due for a new incarnation with the resurgance of superheroes in Hollywood and the popularity of crime procedurals/dramas on TV. For a fun bit of stunt casting, I'd throw in John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick! |
John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick would be cool.
Ironically when Mark Hamil played the Trickster I said to myself that Mark would make a good Joker. A few years later comes Batman the Animated Series.
An X-Men movie with Sentinels. Maybe something based on Days of Future Past.
Echo - the Terry Moore series
Planetary - sort of like Fringe with superpowers.
Kickers, Inc. - OK, this one is a joke
Death - maybe an adaptation of Death: The High Cost of Living
The Spectre - the silver age version who meted out justice by doing freaky stuff like turning criminals to wood and then setting them on fire.
(Sometimes, I wish there could be a Dev thumbs up button for quality posts, because you pretty much nailed it.) -- Ghost Falcon
I would like to see some Villians come in the fore front, possibly given the Hannibal Lectar style of way, some I would like to see:-
Venom
Darkseid
Orca
Killer Croc
Joker
Riddler
Mephisto
Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.
Slazenger, Area51, Area53, Area54, Erruption, Mind Plague, Thresher, Sheath, Broadside, Debt
Punisher: the Dolph version was garbage and Punisher Warzone did worse then Howard the Duck. The Tom Jane one was ok. Get a viable script, see if Jane wants to return or else cast someone new, give it the rated R rating since it IS the Punisher and this time make the movie RIGHT.

Branching Paragon Police Department Epic Archetype, please!
pure $%&*(^$ win!!!!!
add Rising Stars for the trifecta of awesome.
Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.
screw your joke, i want "FREEM"
The biggest thing it needs is an internal monologue to show the depth of character that the Punisher has. |
My main beef with the Tom Jane Punisher was that Travolta seemed to forget how to act.
No major objections to the story and I appreciated how it was expanded to include all his relatives being wiped out, so now the audience can truly appreciate his levels of pain, anguish and desire for revenge.
Heroes for Hire written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Branching Paragon Police Department Epic Archetype, please!
I've never seen the Dolph movie, what I was referring to was the Garth Ennis Punisher run. The internal monologues really fleshed out the character.

Too bad the character was recently trashed by that STUPID concept: FRANKENCASTLE
Lobo....come on, folks. THE MAIN MAN!
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
Well, if I could substitute TV series for movie, I'd love for a non-network (like HBO, Showtime or Starz) to turn the following two properties into live-action:
Preacher
Transmetropolitan
But, if restricted to a ~2 hour movie format, then my wish would be limited to:
Wormwood (the Ben Templesmith comic)
OK, I'd also like to see Empowered as an animated series.
You're not super until you put on The Cape!
Attercap.Net
I'll add a vote for Empowered as well.
Winner of Players' Choice Best Villainous Arc 2010: Fear and Loathing on Striga; ID #350522
1: The Warlord
2: Last of the Viking Heroes
3: Forgotten Realms (as well as the old DC AD&D comic)
4: Atari Force (both the mini comics version that shipped with some of the 2600 games and the regular DC full series)
5: The SwordQuest comics DC did for Atari (Earth World, Fire World, Water World, and the never got around to doing Air World)
6: Tigra
7: ElfQuest (at least the original storyline from the mid 80s).
I'd like to see a Runaways movie.
Failing that a live action JLA founding movie.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
Preacher -- yep...I'd finally get this one off the ground. Would have to be a TV series and would have to be on a network like Showtime or HBO to get around the content. If you toned it down a bit, you could probably get it onto FX, but where would the fun be in that?
Planetary -- would love to see this as a TV series. Set it up to run for only a couple of seasons and get the whole story to play out. There are also enough pop culture tropes that Warren Ellis didn't touch during this series that a clever writing staff could probably extend the life of the series even further than that.
Major Bummer -- loved this series for the little bit that it ran. It would make a good teen slacker movie.
Hitman -- the Garth Ennis version, of course. Rework the origin a bit to get rid of the goofy Bloodlines stuff, and you could end up with a pretty fun movie.
Quantum & Woody -- a well-made non-buddy buddy show would work. The only problem would be the need of a trained goat to play H.A.E.D.U.S.
Poison Elves -- "Desert of the Third Sin" would make a great movie.
Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!
Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.
ROM: Spaceknight. First movie is his arrival on Earth and manages to badly cripple the Dire Wraith invasion but the fight goes on. Sequel movie the Wraiths bring out everything they have on Earth, which is a lot. Rom then connects his universal translator to Earth's satellite comm systems to send a distress signal that summons ALL the spaceknights to Earth for a final showdown.
ISIS: need to do something with that ever since the old live action series.
SHOGUN WARRIORS: lets get Mazinger Z in action!
INFRA MAN: A modern and better edited/choreographed remake of the Shaw Brothers bionic kung fu hero.
GOLGO 13: loved the original anime movie and the TV anime series (Queen Bee was ok...)
Shazam/Capt. Marvel: if at all possible make a joke-reference to Superman in it, for the sequel have Superman in it and of course they must fight before teaming up.
Dr. Strange
Black Panther
Green Arrow
Sovereign Seven
Swamp Thing
Sandman TV Series on Showtime or Stars or HBO, where you follow the comics closely breaking them up as episodes.
