This along with Samuel_Tow's posts much more eloquently express what I'm trying and seemingly failing to say.

So why have a disclaimer saying you're only bringing it up for a sense of parity? You're asking "Well what about the men?" and ... sure okay. What about the men then? How are they getting hard done by in this situation?

Do you genuinely believe that men getting less sexy options in exchange for thematic or heroic ones is unfair? I can understand the point that men want more casual clothes options, but in a game about superheroes if you're only problem is you don't have enough civilian clothing then that isn't an equality issue. You're getting to look like a hero (Or villain) in a game about heroes! That's good! Women don't have a lot of civilian clothing either.. or at least I've never seen women wearing fetish outfits for casual wear.

It runs both ways people, I mean seriously. Outside of the random people saying the men should have access the corsets and skirts being thrown about, I’ve yet to hear anything on the reverse side.
Well this'll be because men don't have the problem of being constantly offered nothing but impractical 'sexy' options for their heroes. No one is seriously arguing that the men get sexy outfits instead of badass ones to even up the scales and fix everything. They might be arguing men should get sexy costumes and I don't see why not, but the issue here is that the men are getting heroic, appropriately themed costumes in these packs and the women get sexy haloween costumes that are practically a parody of what the pack is about.

You may complain that the men get nothing but T-Shirts and Jeans, but the last four packs have been pretty good for breaking out of this, pre-tinting and random skulls aside. All of their costumes are different, heroic looking and pretty thematic and none of them have T-Shirts and Jeans. While the women's costumes are three different variations of sexy corset wearing ladies and the CoT pack which was a good pack of which I have no complaints. There's some nice accessories in the three offenders and they're of fairly high quality, but that doesn't make it any less irritating.

Just because Comics and Film love the stripperific costumes and obsession with sexualising women it doesn't mean it's a good idea to copy them. It'd be nice if Paragon would step up and be better than this.

We're not arguing against sexy costumes ever being made. Just that constantly churning them out seemingly to the exclusion of all other things in the name of "Giving women something different" is really getting annoying and in this thread that annoyance is being voiced.

If you'd like to counter argue then go right ahead, but do it because you actually disagree with the ideas being offered. Not out of some desire to force an argument that doesn't really exist.

But when something that you can already make is presented as something that people want to pay extra for, I thought that maybe people should take a step back from the emotion and start talking with their wallets instead.
Uh.... you do know we can complain and also not buy it? It's not an either/or thing.

Wow, that's pretty impressive! It'd be nice to see that done, it might be busywork but since we're going to be buying them I don't see why it'd be bad to do it.
  7. I'm not against sexy costumes, what I am against is the disparity of sexy costumes we get.

Bar the CoT set Women costume options have all been revealing skirts, corsets and dolled up hair. When you hear a set called Gunslinger you expect something to do with guns. What the CoH Female Character got was is a Bordello costume which has absolutely no relation to being a gunslinger. No gun belts, no bullet straps, no cowboy hats, sherrif stars or boots with spurs.

I mean if this is what they thought best represented "Gunslinger" they clearly have a different definition of it to me. It'd be easy to let this slide if it wasn't the status quo and just the latest in a fairly long line of giving us more 'sexy' options at the expense of things we've been very keen to have. More Jackets is said practically every time this comes up!

Yes current comics are heavily sexualised. But this isn't a point it's favour and a lot of comics these days are trying to undo the soft core porn aesthetic they've built up. Look at the furor over Red Hood and Catwoman recently. It's becoming less acceptable and just ... well... embarrassing to have characters who are little more than T&A.

No one is asking for all sexy options to be removed, we're just asking for there to be less of the skin revealing, sexualised stuff as currently it's pretty much ALL we're getting.

Literally no-one is arguing against sexy characters.

In fact I'll just go right to the point. http://womenfighters.tumblr.com/

There. A lot of those are both sexy and actually look like they belong as some kind of action hero. That's all we want!

The title of this thread is about Gender Equality in costumes. So the answer is rather obviously "No".

Additionally, the CoT pack has come out amidst these releases as well. Despite any disappointments that have been articulated about that pack (lack of funny hats in particular), it was entirely gender neutral.
Oh I forgot about the Haloween pack as it was rather brief and hugely underwhelming. The CoT one though is valid to fill the gap and it was actually pretty good! More like that would be great.
  12. Willpower. it's just a nice solid defence set that doesn't annoy me with it's gaping holes and gives me all the End I could wish for.

    Poison damage aside that is.
  13. The last three packs have had nothing but corsets in them. Steampunk, Barbarian, Gunslinger. Corsets, Corsets, Corsets.

It's really, really hard to take any claims of "Not wanting to encourage people to sexualise their female characters" seriously when they're giving us nothing but options to do exactly that. The brain needs to tell either the mouth or the hands that one of them is not on message.
  14. The problem I have is the Gunslinger woman just doesn't look like a hero. She looks like a Saloon Girl not an Annie Oakley or a Mattie Ross. The male costume looks badass, while the female costume looks... sexy? Yes you can look heroic and sexy, but this doesn't look the least bit heroic. It looks impractical and completely out of place.

I realise hero costumes can be impractical, but all the good ones at least look HEROIC (Or villainous of course). Power Girl, The Baroness and Black Canary looked sexy, but they also cut badass figures. Saloon Girl here is just trying too hard.

Seriously, stop it with the scantily clad ladies costumes. We've got more than enough of them as it is, give us some that actually look heroic rather than sexualised.

  17. She's not a Hero so she doesn't get to level. However it's not all bad news, like all named civilians she is invincible, prone to running about in circles and will inevitably be killed off when sales are flagging.

Jimmy Olson on the other hand is only level 1. But this is only because his player keeps levelling him up, then remaking him with a new power set every other month.
  18. Why do people assume it's hard for Superman to pull his punches or handle people?

Do you do everything at full strength? Well neither does Superman. He just happens to have a higher threshold if he's ACTUALLY trying but his 'normal' range is pretty much the same as ours.

If I was picking something it's natural for me to do it with the minimum amount of force, not the maximum. This is why I don't end up throwing things about with wilful abandon, regardless of weight or size. Every living organism has evolved to do things with the minimum amount of effort because this is the best way to survive.

This is how I do it for Kumi, my super strong hero. Their involuntary reactions are the same strength as a regular humans, but the potential for stronger things is there. She didn't even KNOW she had superstrength until events conspired to give her the chance to actually try that hard.
  19. Well she initially was as the situation sounded so ridiculous that you'd have to be an idiot to fall for it. When it turns out it wasn't ridiculous she instead started to wonder how exactly a demon was setting up devious traps with explosives that'd take some real technical skill to pull off.
  20. Last night!

Kumi turned up and tried to get Shanna to carry a phone around with her, as a quick and easy way to identify who she was so they wouldn't have to worry quite so much about the doppleganger and could then try arrest them if Shanna turned out to not be Shanna.

Richard shouted at her for trying to kill Civilians with her "Arrest Shanna if there's a suspicion she's the Demon" plan leaving Kumi a bit confused.

This was attributed to grief and all was forgiven!

    This night!

Kumi got narked at the continuing Demon thing and went off to guard Mai. Wrench came down and upon hearing Tarvin got hurt, tried to work out how exactly a Demon had rigged up an explosives trap in a lift shaft. Demons not known after all for their proficiency with explosive traps, electronics or lifts.

Everyone shouted at her for wanting to investigate a crime scene. Then they rushed off to investigate a crime scene, leaving Wrench feeling a bit confused.

This was attributed to grief and all was forgiven!

    Tomorrow night!

Someone else tries to join in on the plot, fails and gets yelled at instead leaving them a bit confused.

This will be attributed to grief and all will be forgiven!

    Friday Night!

    Billy Murray sues.
  21. Well since Electric-Knight ruined EVERYTHING, I suppose I should reply more reasonably. The ideas one that I can see people having fun with especially as it'd mean you don't have to worry about continuity and being "Left behind" However people don't particularly like proselyting on their channels for obvious reasons! This is the right place to try gather people, however coming in immediately with an aggressive tone did you no favours. Your approach was, essentially, "You all suck, I don't. Come RP with me" which is only a step up from the "I will hunt you down and kill your family if you don't RP with me" method of getting people on board to your cause.

That doesn't work by the way.

Uh... or so I've been told. They'll never find the bodies anyway and you all can't prove a thing.
  22. For responding in rhyme I give reverence
But you missed the point of my reference
    You cannot blame others
    For having a druthers
When it come to their RPing preference
  23. Every possible variation?

There was a poster named PoisonPen
Who wanted both Ladies and Men
    Who without any doubt
    Would most eagerly shout
    "Yes RP without consequence! Amen!"

But followers he did not quickly gather
Quite the opposite others would rather
    And although he should quit
    Fault PoisonPen won't admit
He'll try his best persnickety blather

Putting "Roleplayers" in quotes is offensive
And the problems with your post are extensive
    I'd like to say why
    I'm afraid I won't try
Your tone makes me quite apprehensive

So for this argument I'll just get to the Crux
(This rhyming draws only so many Yuks)
    Our world is persistent
    So I must be insistent
Sorry mate it seems "ur RP sux"

I'm going to guess you haven't read it because it's made very clear she used to be paralysed. It's one of the first thing she mentions in the first comic. She talks about it while out 'back on the job'. She has a flashback to the moment when confronted with her first gun. The fact it went away mysteriously is a plot point that is bound to come up sooner or later.

So she absolutely was paralyzed in the New DC and is only now getting back into the Batgirl routine.
  25. I'm loving Young Justice so far. It's not quite as good as JLU yet but it is consistently getting better and I got to admit I love the Trick Arrow stuff. Love it.
