That's why I got this set!
My Fire/Earth Dom has Sleet. I did an STF the other day with an Earth Dom. Every pull STONE CAGES STONE CAGES STONE CAGES. I said in team chat that, hey, you're hurting more than you are helping. He didn't get why. I explained it. Stone cages stopped for the rest of the mission. They resumed the following one.
I swear he was doing it to piss me off. I wouldn't be surprised if he stone caged mobs in his earth quake. |
I wouldn't mind but he actually got himself killed a few times too thanks to the aggro he drew doing it. And yet he still continued on doing it.
I've had a few Fire Control types addicted to it as well (Domis too) but he seemed to cotton on and started using it only as the Flashfire -> Cage 1-2 (which personally I think is pretty much unnecessary on a Domi, but at least it shows a cognitive process is working behind the character rather than a deranged monkey).
I think Scrappers sometimes get annoyed with my Elec/NRG Domi using Power Push on things, I can see them on frsh PuGs running after them like a dog after a stick. But they quickly learn that there's a chained Total Focus following it up and a salvo of other blasts and they can reliably mark that enemy off as dead, even if the enemy in question doesn't quite know it yet (I do tend to pick the "nasty loner guy who is hanging around the edge of melee" too, so as to avoid stealing the Tank or Scrappers targets).
I'm that blaster, lurking in the back, watching everyone run in, pop their specials to do something soo cool, and then...
AIM BU NUKE.
I do it on purpose.
I build for recharge to do it every spawn.
Your tricks are great, but my trick is leveling everything before anyone can do tricks. Just relax and watch your rewards window. You do have a rewards window set up, don't you? WHY NOT?
You could always play "Inspiration Tetris" while I do the heavy lifting.

Also, BU SC LR arguably hits spawns just as fast as AIM BU NUKE. (and recharges faster than the long recharge nukes. Since it recharges equal to buildup and aim, the AIM BU miniNuke has no advantage over the BU SC LR combo too.)
I find it unlikely that AIM BU NUKE (yes, even RoA mini-nuke) levels everything and is ready for the next spawn, unless for some reason that spawn is more than 200 yards away. Leveling spawns implies that you're moving to the next spawn in the next 5-10 seconds, it's why two (or more) elec/shield scrappers leapfrog spawns (or just go seperate directions).

So, I had a radiation defender with fallout and vengeance. And, then, people weren't dying.
I cried. True story. |

I've got one of a player spoiling his own time. This was an Elec/Elec Tank. He'd run into each spawn, use Lightning Clap to scatter them, then hit Power Sink and stand there all pathetic while it fizzled on his fingertips with no targets in the radius. Then he'd stand around and whine about how the Endurance Management in Electric Armor isn't actually any good at all, while the rest of us would actually fight the rest of the spawn.
I tried to explain some better strategies for effective use of Knockback, for example suggesting he try to use it from the edge of the spawn to shove them all in the same direction, preferably towards a corner. He responded by ragequitting. So I took over aggro control with my Plant/Thorn Dom, opening on each spawn with Seeds of Confusion and Roots (both of which he had forbidden me from using when I joined... I was pretty much flinging around my single target hold and meleeing at his insistence... in retrospect, I have no idea why I put up with that for even half a mission). We had no Melee team members, and since we could now focus our AoEs effectively, our rate of EXP gain skyrocketed. He sent a few angry /tells to the guy the star fell to, demanding that he disband the failed team now that its creator had abandoned it. Instead, we picked up a Peacebringer and ran an ITF. But this is the real worst part. I ran into him at Wentworths later and checked his build... he was 48, and didn't have Lightning Rod. Who the hell plays Electric Melee without grabbing Lightning Rod at the earliest possible opportunity?! I love Elec/Elec of all varieties so much, it just hurts me to see someone play it so poorly... |
Speaking of unhelpful KBs and Immobs, I was playing my Dark/KM tanker and doing quite well for myself on an eight-man +2 team.
Now, Dark has some nice PBAoE tricks. Death Shroud is decent damage when hitting eight or so enemies, and Oppressive Gloom is always handy. Plus, Dark Regeneration is always wonderful, assuming it has targets.
Unfortunately, a /Storm Corrupter and some sort of /Grav Controller decided that the winning combo was to scatter enemies in all directions and immob them. This is great when you're fighting swarms of purple Council who are quite effective at range against squishies, and your tank's only ranged ability is taunt.
Biggest personal pet peeve: Storm characters with perma Hurricane who hover above you, preventing you from seeing what is going on. Bonus points for Snow Storm colored pure white, times six if it's some kind of Mastermind littering the floor with pets.
I felt this when I played my warshade. Always seemed like I was 3-5 seconds behind the rest of the team. Mire, switch forms, Mire, switch... oh, everything is almost dead already... Stygian Circle, Dark Extraction... hey, wait for me!
My night widow, on the other hand, has probably caused a lot of grief to others. I don't know how many times I swooped in on a target just as a tanker or scrapper started to wind up, and finished it off with a couple of quick attacks before they could deliver the blow. Sorry! Heh heh.

Energy Transfer and Total Focus are tops on my list. OK as soon as I land you are gonna get it..... SLAM! Pounds fists into corpse.
Rad debff toggles in a close 2nd. They are great in AV fights but pretty pointless for most regular group content. Although now with the new TFs at lvl 54 it is not so bad for either as mobs tend to live a bit longer.
when you are an controller earth or plant or what ever and you hope that tanker can actually herd so you can release all of you aoe controls and a blaster type does a knockback power and scatters the herd before you even have time to set up you first AoE control.

True story bro.
Don't hate on my Stone Cages bro, though I do use them significantly less than Earthquake, Quicksand and Stalagmites
Shouldn't knock the power because a player doesn't know how to use it.
This happens so much I expect it. When I'm teamed with someone with Earth Control who doesn't use Stone Cages or (better) doesn't have it, I immediately friend the person, right click->add note->4 stars, and tell the player we should go out drinking some time.
True story bro. |
I've watched Earth/ Doms and Controllers both drop an Earthquake and immediately follow with Stone Cages. I have 3 Earth Doms and an Earth Controller myself. Seeing people do that makes me want to send tells that would likely get me banned.
My personal gripes: On a Warshade, Double Mire plus Quasar is an absolutely devastating combo. Entire spawns vaporized. Of course, on a big team everything's dead or dying by the time I get the second Mire going........heck, sometimes if I run in and just hit Quasar half the spawn is dead before THAT finishes animating. This leaves me standing there going "I just crashed my End bar why, exactly?"
I absolutely will NOT run my Ice/Ice Dom with any Controllers. Other Doms are iffy, but Controllers are right out. Most Controllers seem to be under the delusion their AoE immob actually does significant damage. I can think of no other reason for them to run themselves out of endurance spamming the blasted thing. No really, I WANTED to waste that Ice Slick. AND all that endurance I'm spending on the 2 mobs I can get in my Arctic Air because the rest are locked in place all around the room. It's OK Mr. Controller, you just go back to spamming your AoE immob, I'll be fine.....
Don't even get me started on Archery characters and explosive arrow either.
Stone Cages can be used for setting up Containment. I agree they are overused though. However, even on my Ice characters I use the AoE immobs sometimes. The -knockback wears off after 12 seconds, so enemies can be both rooted and flopping. The cages can also be a decent power to spam if you have them procced out. Especially Electric and Gravity, which can make use of both the Chance for Knockdown and Chance for Hold procs to turn the power into a lockdown cluster.
Yeah the AoE immobilize from electric. I sloted the going rogue preorder Knock down proc in it. Oh it was so great. Every time did it in a mob at least 1 got KD and then when they tried to get up jolting chain then they want to get up AoE. I may not being doing much damage but neither are they. Soooo much fun. Though I hear catdrops with the proc in it is sooo funny.
Ugh, AoE immob spam. How I despise it.
My one and only Tanker was an Invul/Fire that I ran on a static team. This team included a Fire/Rad Controller who would open every fight with her AoE immob, the second I aggrod the mob, thereby immobilizing everything all over the place where not only was it much harder for me to grab and hold aggro, but everything was out of range of my Invincibility and not helping me survive. Sometimes I would tell her to please hold off for a few seconds and let everything bunch up a bit....and she would hold off for two spawns or so. Then, BAM, Fire Cages again.
Then she rolled up a Tanker of her own. Around the time she hit the mid-20s, running on a lot of PuGs, I got a tell from her apologizing profusely for her immob spam and swearing she would never EVER do it again.
The immob spam also made my husband swear off PuGs with his Ice/Fire Dom, since after everything that was fire caged on his Ice Slick killed the immob-spammer it would immediately turn around and kill him.

I had another one this afternoon in LGTF. I mentioned it to them on the first mission, no response. Second mission after them caging countless times in my sleet, I send a tell to my friend (the leader), asking them where they got this controller from anyway. I got told to stop concerning myself with it. Obviously, with how fast things were dying, it couldn't possibly matter that I was KDing things. Later on I got ticked, I mean, half of my Dom's controls are soft (earth assault secondary), I can't use them as control if you are caging everything! Snapped at them in party, got told 'fine, ill stop using MY stone'.
All I saw for a long while was them spamming heals (they were /Emp) and rocky running around. In fact, before that, I don't think I saw gasses, earthquake, etc. Maybe I didn't notice earthquake due to every spawn being caged, though.
Honestly, this was one of the worst I've dealt with. Not only were they spamming their least valuable control, they didn't have three key Empathy powers. No AB, no fort and no CM.
My friend, the party leader, got pissed at me for telling the controller how to play. That I'm going to have to suck it up, get used to playing with other control characters and that I can't tell every person in the party how to play. Along with how 'one of the scrappers is spamming immob anyway' (and they were, it was TT, which has no -kb).
I had a happier ending when I was on an ITF with a Bots/FF that kept Force Bubble up all the time. It was, of course, screwing all our aoe and forcing our damage to spread out too far from our support, making our whole team say, "But that's why I got this set!"
The backlash went something like this. First somebody observed that my Force Bubble was up all the time ('cause I was on an FF def, and yeah, that was overkill, but it worked out all right in the end!), and I say it's the MM. Several minutes pass, and someone else mentions it (but doesn't explicitly ask him to turn it off), and he laughs about it and says he stays way back anyway as long as he can see his bots. Several more minutes pass, and someone complains that it's really screwing our aoe, but I guess that's still too indirect for him, 'cause he doesn't say anything. Finally I directly ask him to turn it off, and he immediately quits. But nobody was angry at me about it, and we didn't have any trouble finishing, so it worked out about as well as it could have.
Hahah, time bomb, definitely time bomb. Two ways to get robbed and both hurt so much.
You can either do it in the current or next spawn before team gets there and hope it goes off in time. Or you can do the only true option to make it work on a decent team. Go 3! spawns ahead and set it. Sometimes you do that and you get robbed because your team moves a little too slow and the distance causes it to not detonate or detonate wrong. And often the only time you get it right means assured death from the now angry spawn (how do you damage buff something enough to actually kill when it takes 6 hours and perfect stealth to set up?)
